en First Class to Havana.

All too often today, music listeners are faced with a
trade-off. Music is either smart or fun. While the world
embraces a hundred flavors of “party music” a very
special artist is busy doing the improbable. In First Class
to Havana, Aymee Nuviola has created some of the most
thoughtful, intelligent, and yes, even danceable music
in recent years. Her travel companions on this imaginary
voyage to Havana include some of the top musicians
and songwriters from Cuba and beyond.
On the heels of her critically acclaimed 2013 album,
En La Intimidad, Nuviola was invited by Sergio George
to participate in his hit Salsa Giants World Tour. She is
electrifying enormous audiences with her unmistakeable
style and her command of both the stage and the Cuban
songbook. Now, new fans and old alike get to enjoy new
songs and re-imagined covers in a variety of brand-new,
mostly up-tempo, timba, salsa and son cuts.
The “Sonera del Mundo” can choose to either take her
time to craft a song, or improvise on stage like no other,
and she proves it in track after track. Comedy, tragedy
and even her deeply spiritual views on love and loss
will take listeners on their own voyage of discovery.
She effortlessly blends musical influences that range
from American Jazz and Bossa Nova to Samba, R&B
and more – gained by traveling the world and embracing
its music. And when a prolific singer, songwriter and
musician like Aymee brings her friends onboard,
great things are bound to happen. From master
pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba’s heart-wrenching solos,
to the beautiful craftsmanship of Jorge Luis Piloto,
Carlos Varela and Amaury Gutierrez’s songwriting,
to the darling of New York’s music scene Pedrito
Martinez, this project is indeed first class all the way.
Child prodigy-turned-producer Ángel Arce has crafted
arrangements that can sound comfortingly familiar and
remarkably new at the same time. Arce co-founded the
Timba music movement along with Aymee in Havana
years ago. Together with producer Paulo Simeon, the
team has found a way to travel back to a mystical place
that never was and in the process write a love letter to
the music and place they will always adore.
The new project from Cuba’s most versatile
and respected female singer-songwriter.

enorgullecido y dado realce a esa capacidad innata

From the world,
For the world
Once upon a time, music fit neatly into well defined
sections at record stores. Genres like rock, pop, jazz,
salsa, tango and classical all had their own artists,
audiences and venues. Cuban music though, was always
the exception to the rule. For generations, from Ernesto
Lecuona to Israel López Cachao and beyond, top Cuban
musicians have been able to toggle easily between
styles. From the infectious rhythms of Mambo, Son,
Guaracha and Charanga to heart-wrenching downtempo
genres like Bolero and Fílin, every major Cuban star
from Beny Moré to Celia Cruz has prided themselves
on this innately Cuban ability to create quality across
many genres.
Aymée Nuviola, like Cuba itself, embodies that magical
blend. Born into a family of musicians, some of her
earliest memories are at the piano, working through
melodies between lessons. Later, as she was receiving
her classical training at Cuba’s top musical academy,
she recalls her fascination with all kinds of music, from
Debussy to Bossa Nova. In her latest production,
the “Sonera del Mundo” has seemlessly blended her
influences into musical creations and performances
that leave listeners thirsty for more. Aymée’s music
is an island without borders, open to the world, friendly,
smart and willing to share her most personal, intimate
truths with the world.
