The Strikers announced the signing of Honduran
international midfielder Hendry Thomas on August 7.
Thomas appeared in 14 games for the Strikers, providing
one assist.
Professional:
Thomas started his professional career as a 16 year old in 2001 with the most successful
team in Honduras, Olimpia. Thomas collected a number of trophies with Olimpia before
signing with Premier League side Wigan Athletic in 2009.
The Honduran cemented his place in the starting lineup in his first season in England,
making 27 starts in 31 appearances with Wigan. After accumulating more than 50
appearances in three Premier League seasons, Thomas signed with MLS club Colorado
Rapids in 2012. He most recently played for FC Dallas in 2014. His time in the Lone Star
state was cut short after Thomas suffered a season-ending ACL injury.
International:
Thomas has earned more than 50 caps for the Honduras national team. In addition to
CONCACAF Gold Cup appearances in 2005 and 2011, and the 2008 Summer Olympics,
Thomas was a member of the Honduras squad that competed in the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
He made one start and one substitute appearance in the World Cup.
Thomas has positive memories of the Strikers’ home venue Lockhart Stadium. He scored his
first goal for Honduras at the stadium in a 2-1 victory against Colombia in a friendly in 2008.

The Fort Lauderdale Strikers were originally founded
in 1977 when the Robbie family relocated the Miami
Toros North American Soccer League franchise north
to Lockhart Stadium. The club would go on to be one
of the most successful NASL clubs, featuring some
of the greatest players of all time. The club finished
runner-up in the 1980 Soccer Bowl. The club moved to
Minnesota for the final NASL season in 1984.
The Strikers returned in the American Soccer League
(later American Professional Soccer League) from
1988-94, winning the ASL and National Soccer
Championship in 1989. A third Strikers club played in
the USISL (now known as USL) from 1994-97.
