Established in 1898, the Conklin Pen Company® founder Roy Conklin, an innovator from Toledo, Ohio USA, is today regarded as one of the most significant and innovative American writing instruments manufacturers from the golden era of fountain pens. Roy Conklin registered the patent for the first working automatic fi lling mechanism in 1897 and is recognized as creating one of the world’s first practical self-filling fountain pen. The Crescent Filler™ soon proved to be a success world-wide. Thanks to Roy Conklin, owner and inventor, the fountain pen was ultimately made more practical and convenient for the public with his patented invention of the Crescent Filler™. The Crescent Filler™ has a piece of metal shaped like a crescent moon, that extends from the side of the pen, and was the key to a simple and easy one-handed way to self-fill the pen with ink. The simple depression of the crescent engages the internal pressure bar to collapse the built-in rubber sac. Releasing the crescent allows incoming ink to fill the sac. In 1903, Mark Twain, the legendary American author, expressed the virtues of this unique self-filling fountain pen. After becoming the official spokesman for The Conklin Pen Company®, Mark Twain discovered yet another benefit to Conklin’s Crescent Filler™ stating, “Also, I prefer it because it is a profanity saver’ it cannot roll off the desk”. More than 115 years later, today’s Conklin Pen Company® is striving to continue in the same spirit of bold innovation, while still providing the highest quality available in fine writing instruments throughout the world. 2 In 1903 the renowned American author and humorist, Mark Twain became the official spokesman for the Conklin Pen Company®. Celebrating 4 Conklin’s innovative design and Mark Twain’s passion for the Crescent filling fountain pen, we are pleased to launch the Mark Twain Crescent Filler™ as a limited edition demonstrator in crystal clear acrylic to show the inner workings and mechanism of this unique filling system. 5 Mark Twain Demonstrator Crescent Filler™ is limited to 1898 numbered pieces world-wide, the year that Conklin was founded. Mark Twain’s signature is engraved on the cap band along with the individual limited edition number for each fountain pen. 6 #CK71259 Blue Demo f/pen #CK71249 Red Demo f/pen To make this limited edition demonstrator, new processes were devised, and technical hurdles were overcome. Our engineers had to develop several new methods to create this model so that the material is completely transparent, allowing for the writer to view the filling mechanism in action during the filling of ink. The crystal clear acrylic enables you to see at a glance how much ink you have left in your fountain pen so that you are never caught short in writing notes at that important meeting, or run out of ink when writing a letter to your loved one. Using today’s new technologies and materials, we are able to recreate the original Crescent pen design to appeal to pen connoisseurs who appreciate the history and creative times of the most innovative American pen company from the golden-era of fountain pens. MARK TWAIN expresses the simplicity and superiority of ‘THE CONKLIN’in these words: New York, Oct. 1, 1903 “Dear Sirs:- I prefer it to ten other fountain pens, because it carries its filler in its own stomach, and I cannot mislay even by art or intention. Also, I prefer it because it is a profanity saver; it cannot roll off the desk. Very truly yours”. #CK71230 Clear Demo f/pen 7 The Crescent Filler™ collection is an exact replica of the original Conklin Crescent Filler™ dating back to the early 1900s. Offered in a choice of seven hand made European grade resin finishes, from the simple conservative to the bright and cheerful, or downright flamboyant hand made resins, each Crescent Filler™ fountain pen is a high quality writing instrument. 8 #CK71135 Black chase f/pen #CK71152 Coral chase f/pen #CK71156 Red chase f/pen 9 10 In 1923, the Duragraph™ model was launched, and shortly afterwards was considered to be ‘the definitive’ pen. The model was named by combining the words, durable and graph - Duragraph™. Created to last as an heirloom to serve many generations, the Duragraph™ is offered with a lifetime guarantee. The new Duragraph™ collection brings a fresh, modern style to this timeless oversize flat top design. Crafted from quality hand made resins, the Duragraph™ is substantial in size, yet not so large to be unwieldy in the hand. Offered in a choice of three classic finishes, Amber, Cracked Ice and Forest Green, the Duragraph™ pays tribute to the classic designs of yesteryear. The cap top is embellished with the Conklin Est. 1898 logo and the cap band is engraved with the famous Duragraph™ model script font with three Conklin Crescent logos on either side of the model name. 11 12 The new Duragraph™ collection brings a fresh, modern style to this timeless oversize flat top design. The ‘All American™’ collection was offered in a variety of sizes, filling mechanisms and finishes with the aim of satisfying a growing market demand for good quality, but affordably priced writing instruments. Drawing inspiration from Conklin’s original models and the rich heritage of the brand, our new All American™ collection brings a vibrant, contemporary style to a timeless oversize streamlined design. Crafted from hand made European high grade resins, the All American™ is impressively large in size, yet not so big as to be uncomfortable in the hand. The cap and barrel are carefully tapered to provide a perfect balance. The All American™ Collection meets the requirements for those who want a large pen, one that stands out in a crowd, but which still stays true to the classic style and feel of the original Conklin designs. 14 15 16 #CK71435 Old glory b/pen Special Edition #CK71430 Old Glory f/pen Special Edition #CK71425 Tortoiseshell b/pen #CK71420 Tortoiseshell f/pen #CK 71405 Yellowstone b/pen #CK71400 Yellowstone f/pen #CK71415 Sunburst Orange b/pen #CK71410 Sunburst Orange f/pen 17 18 Today’s Conklin Heritage Collection blends the original vision of the most striking of vintage models paired with today’s cutting-edge technology in materials and manufacturing.
