730 Digitizer Family
14-bit 500 MS/s Digitizer
The 730 is a family of 14-bit, 500 MS/s Flash ADC Waveform Digitizers.
It is available in three form factors: VME (16 input channels), NIM (8 input channels)
and Desktop (8 input channels).
Considering the sampling frequency and the bit number, it is well suited for midfast signals as the ones coming from liquid or inorganic scintillators coupled to
PMTs or Silicon Photomultipliers and others.
The acquisition capabilities of x730 take advantage of the multi-buffer
organization of the memories. The data stream is continuously written in a circular
memory buffer. When the trigger occurs, the digitizer writes further samples for
the post trigger and freezes the buffer that can be read by one of the provided
readout links. The acquisition can continue without any dead time in a new buffer.
Two memory sizes are available according to the different versions of the x730
model: 640 KS/ch or 5.12 MS/ch.
x730 digitizer is provided with FPGAs that can run Digital Pulse Processing (see
box below). In addiction to the existing firmware, CAEN is available to collaborate
with customers to develop custom solutions.
730 family supports multi-board synchronization allowing all ADCs to be
synchronized to a common clock source and ensuring Trigger Time Tag alignment.
Once synchronized, all data will be aligned and coherent across multiple x730 boards.
A common acquisition trigger signal can be provided externally via the front
panel Trigger Input as well as via the software, but it can also be generated
internally thanks to threshold self-trigger capability. The trigger from one board
can be propagated to the other boards through the front.

Did you Know?
x730 digitizers can run three Digital Pulse Processing firmware for Physics
Applications:
DPP-PHA Digital Pulse Processing for Pulse Height Analysis
x730 digitizer running DPP-PHA firmware accepts
signals directly from Charge Sensitive Preamplifiers or
photomultiplier tubes and implements a digital replacement
of Shaping Amplifier and Peak Sensing ADC (Multi-Channel
Analyzer) by means of digital trapezoidal filters.
DPP-PSD Digital Pulse Processing for Pulse Shape
Discrimination
x730 digitizer running DPP-PSD firmware accepts signals
directly from the detector and implements a digital
replacement of dual gate QDC, discriminator and gate
generator.
DPP-ZLEplus Digital Pulse Processing for the Zero Length
Encoding
x730 digitizer running DPP-ZLE allows the user to transfer the
digitized waveforms in compressed mode, performing an
enhanced Zero Suppression algorithm.
Applications
• Nuclear and Particle Physics
• Dark Matter and Astroparticle Physics
• Fast Neutron spectroscopy
• Homeland Security
USB
An USB 2.0 link is provided in NIM and Desktop
form factors for an easy data readout.
Digital I/O
Digital I/Os are provided in VME boards that can
be used for individual trigger propagation to
external trigger logic. This feature makes VME
form factor ideal to scale up the acquisition
channels where a global trigger generation is
mandatory.
Optical Link
An Optical link is provided in any form factor
for high performance data readout through
CAEN proprietary daisy-chainable CONET
communication protocol.
