VENANGO COUNTY COMMISSIONERS CANDIDATE FORUM
On Tuesday, May 17, 2011, citizens of Venango County will be faced with an important task—
to cast their ballots for who they believe would best represent them. With the ongoing media
attention over economic woes and other key state and national issues, questions are being
raised over the rippling effects at the local level. Homegrown issues are also on the table. The
upcoming election will play a crucial role in where Venango County may be headed, and
citizens will ultimately decide who is there serving as their representative. The Venango Area
Chamber of Commerce, with Franklin Area Chamber of Commerce are inviting business owners, professionals, and the public-at-large to educate themselves on the candidates by attending the Venango County Commissioners Candidate Forum Breakfast, to be held at 7:30am,
April 8, 2011 at The Commons at Franklin. At the forum, attendees will hear directly from the candidates themselves,
answering their questions. Candidates for Venango County Commissioner are, Republican Party: Timothy S. Brooks of
Cherrytree Township, Vincent Witherup of Franklin, Rodney Bedow of Kennerdell, James J. Dutko of Cooperstown, Fred
Weaver of Oil City, James E. Speth of Sugarcreek. Democratic Party: Jan Beichner of President Township, Stan Grzasko
of Cornplanter Township and Bonnie S. Summers of Oil City. To make your reservation please call the Chamber offices
at 814-676-8521 or you may make your reservation by visiting our website at http://www.venangochamber.org/

KAPP ALLOY & WIRE TO RUN
FOR TECHNOLOGY
Kapp Alloy & Wire, a leading solder, spraywire, and Babbitt
manufacturer located in Oil City, PA, will watch Kapp President
and CEO Jack Crawford run the Pittsburgh half marathon on May
15th.
Crawford isn’t just running the half-marathon for the competition,
however. He is running to raise money for the Venango Catholic
High School technology department. Crawford is a Venango
Catholic High School parent who has been a casual jogger most of
his life. Crawford noted, “I’ve never run 13 miles before, but this is
a great reason to try. Our schools are constantly purchasing new
technology. Contributions will help our children succeed.” Crawford did note that another motivation is turning 50. “If I don’t try
it now, I may never do it.”

HAGAN BUSINESS MACHINES
NAMED AMONG NATION’S BEST IN
IMAGING
Hagan Business Machines of Meadville, Inc.
recently received national recognition by PROs
Elite Group as one of the top 100 office product
dealers in the United States based on a series of
criteria designed to measure customer service
procedures and outcomes, as well as overall
customer satisfaction. PROs Elite Group is the
top industry benchmarking organization for
office products and solutions recognizing the top
100 dealers in the United States for dedication
and execution of service. Only 100 office imaging dealers in the United States and selected

Likewise, only one dealer in any market will be

Hagan Business Machines was selected by PROs Elite Group, the

because of their demonstrated service excellence. In order to
qualify, Hagan underwent a year-long in-depth assessment of its
service department, various training programs for service
management and customer relation skills in order to meet the
ambitious benchmarking requirements. These rigorous standards
of excellence include auditing customer satisfaction levels, to ensure consistency of service and a commitment to ongoing performance measurement.
“We’ve always been an organization based on commitment to our
customers, and we have made a significant investment in service
and training.” said Jay Verno, President, Hagan Business Machines
of Meadville, Inc. “We are extremely honored to receive this
prestigious designation. The PROs Elite 100 Certification helps

“Achieving PROs Elite 100 Certification is the pinnacle of an
independent office technology company’s accomplishment. It is
the ultimate differentiator and national symbol of recognition and
distinction in the office imaging industry,” explained Steve Rolla,
Senior Partner at PROs Elite Group.

volunteer for the United Way, followed by her move into her current position as executive assistant of the Franklin/
Grove City YMCAs.
Chamber and community members were invited

reviewed the nominations and named the winner.

FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY
June 14, 2011
7:00 PM
Hasson Park, Oil City
When the United States flag (Old Glory) becomes worn, torn, faded or badly
soiled, it is time to replace it with a new flag, and the old flag should be
"retired" with all the dignity and respect befitting our nation's flag. This task
is carried out by Boy Scout Troops across the country every year.
The local Boy Scout Troop 17 is holding their 18th Annual Flag Retirement
Ceremony, sponsored by First Presbyterian Church, on June 14th at 7:00 pm.
Flags are collected throughout the year at the following locations, Venango
Area Chamber of Commerce, VFW Post 464-Oil City, Oil City Library and City
Hall, Oil City. The Boy Scout Troop would like to extend the service of flag
retirement to any area resident in need of this service. If you have a large
number of flags that need to be picked up, contact Bob Reardon 814-6766019.
