EMS Sentry, Inc.
Stark County company provides two-way communication device that connects the homebound to a certified EMT: ‘It’s like having a neighbor watching over you’
As a Medicare Part B provider, MediVoice Alert® is a first-in-class product providing your patients with the opportunity to remain
safe, secure and independent in their homes.
Three years ago, Larry and Ruth Anne Parker introduced an electronic safety device right here in Stark County called MediVoice
Alert®.
After 30 years in the safety and security business, we saw the need for a two-way medical monitoring and alert system for
people who are homebound and live with chronic disabilities.
With typical PERS pendants, users are limited by the location of the base in order for someone to hear their call for help. If
they’re out of range—they’re out of luck!
With MediVoice Alert®, a person can communicate from anywhere in their home, as well as outside on their property—within
200 feet or more of their base station. They can tend to their garden, sit on their porch or just enjoy the out-of-doors with total
peace of mind.
This gives them a greater sense of independence, without sacrificing their personal assurance of safety and security. What’s
more, if they need to use their MediVoice Alert® device, they’ll speak to a certified EMT within seconds—24 hours a day, seven
days a week. The EMT will assess the situation and determine whether the patient’s family or other contact should be notified,
or if immediate emergency assistance is necessary.
It’s all done with simple one-button activation. Our device can be worn on the wrist, on a neck lanyard, or clipped to a belt or
waistband for easy access. Since it’s water-resistant, it can even be worn in the shower.
As a health-care professional, you can recommend MediVoice Alert® with the assurance that our first-in-class product will provide the peace of mind your patients desire.
As an approved Medicare provider, we are able to participate in Medicare reimbursement under Medicare Part B. In addition,
third party insurers are recognizing the benefits of our product and the potential cost savings to their companies. We are registered with the FDA and are nationally accredited as a DMEPOS provider.
If you’d like to arrange a demonstration, we will be happy to meet with you and your staff to show you our product and answer
any questions you may have.
See why one local resident said that using MediVoice Alert® “is like having a neighbor watching over you.” Call us at (330) 4331040 for more information.

WESTFIELD BANK CONTINUES TO RECEIVE FIVE-STAR “SUPERIOR” RATING FROM BAUER FINANCIAL
Westfield Bank continues to receive the top Five-Star “Superior” rating for financial strength from BauerFinancial, an independent rating company analyzing and reporting on the performance of U.S. banks and credit unions since 1983.
Financial institutions that earn a four or five star rating from BauerFinancial are placed on BauerFinancial’s Recommended Report. Westfield
Bank has now been recommended by BauerFinancial for 42 consecutive quarters.
Dedicated to providing safe and secure lending and banking products to businesses and families, Westfield Bank continues to grow in the
northeast Ohio market. Westfield Bancorp, with assets exceeding $863 million, is the holding company for Westfield Bank.
BauerFinancial ratings classify financial institutions based upon a complex formula factoring in current and historical data. The first level of
evaluation is the capital level of the institution followed by other relevant data including, but not limited, to: profitability, historical trends, loan
delinquencies, repossessed assets, reserves, regulatory compliance, proposed regulations and asset quality.
“At Westfield Bank, our customers continue to experience the value of a community bank, where we know you, care about your success and
can make decisions locally,” said Westfield Bank President Timothy Phillips. “We attribute our continued success to responsible business
practices and a consistent focus that puts our customers’ needs first.”
For more information on BauerFinancial, visit www.bauerfinancial.com.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD
October 2013
The first day of Autumn was September 22. Where did the summer go? Where
did 2013 go? As we enter the final quarter of the year I want to extend my appreciation to all our members for your support and hard work.
The MAPS Air Museum on September 11 was well attended and the collaboration between the Jackson & N. Canton Chambers was great. Entrepreneurs
were given the opportunity to showcase their products and services and to also
show off Northeast Ohio’s Center of Aviation History.
A special thanks to our Congressman Jim Renacci for informing us about what is
going on in Washington DC, how it can affect you and your businesses. President Steven Meeks collaborate with the Green Chamber, Lake Chamber and
North Canton Chamber of Commerce to host your Congressman.
And as always, if you want to network … we have planned another full year of
activities and events. If you want to participate on a committee, we need you. If
you want your voice heard by your local, state or federal elected officials let us
know your challenges. Steven, Chet, Jennifer, Tammy and Ashley are here to
help. Give them a call.

Deborah Lehman

Benjamin Lehman is a photographer, designer and
director who has spent over two decades working as a visual artist. His work has appeared on
screens and publications across the country. As a
designer in his early days, Benjamin’s main goal
was to embrace the emerging digital mediums.
While others were struggling to hold onto their old
exacto knife and paste-up ways, Ben was using
the newest digital tools to push the boundaries of
visual art and design. It was in these early years
of the World Wide Web that he led the way in web
site design. Working with many tech companies,
such as Adobe and Microsoft, he helped to create
vibrant web presences. It was also during this time
that he and his wife, Deborah Lehman, created
their graphic design agency HoppingMedia. As the
internet progressed so did Ben’s skills and soon
he was involved with bringing motion to computer
monitors everywhere. Embracing QuickTime and
Flash (then known as FutureSplash), Benjamin
once again pioneered many of the techniques and
styles still used by web animators and new-media
creators today. Always seeming to know a good
thing when he sees it, he was one of the first to
raise the importance of Social Media as web 2.0
emerged. Now, a few years and millions of posts
later, Ben has helped companies forge large scale
social media campaigns, and online social footprints.

The Tip Club program offers a no cost forum for chamber members to build the
kind of relationships with other members that will generate sales leads, educate
potential customers about member businesses, and expand networking
opportunities. It is anticipated that Tip Club members will be the referral to other
members’ businesses. Remember people do business with people they know. A
lot of business is gained through personal referrals and through word of mouth. Tip
clubs exist to broaden your base of personal referrals.
Meetings are facilitated and follow a structured format. Members are asked to give
a brief 30-60 second introduction, talking about their products and services.
Business Cards and Literature may also be distributed. Tip Club provides a
friendly forum to practice your sales pitch and try out new approaches and sales
techniques.

CANTON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Single concert tickets are now on sale for the upcoming Canton Symphony Orchestra season. The jam-packed season promises to be fun,
exciting and surprising once again, with concerts that feature a Brooklyn-based viral video sensation, a banjo player, a multi-media show of
NASA photographs of the planet rovers / satellites, an all-Scottish concert, and the return of world-renown pianist André Watts.
The orchestra’s 76th season will continue its Pops series, featuring PROJECT Trio, the always popular Holiday Pops, and local saxophonist
Matt Corey with Elec Simon. The Pops series is held at the newly renovated Palace Theatre, except for the Holiday Pops that is performed
at Umstattd Hall (at McKinley High School next to C.T. Branin Natatorium).
Michelle Mullaly, Executive Director of Canton Symphony, announced the classical series’ season will open October 6 with guest violinist
William Preucil, the Concertmaster of The Cleveland Orchestra. The featured piece will be Scottish Fantasy by Bruch along with two other
“Scottish” themed pieces by Mendelssohn and Benjamin.
Then on October 19, PROJECT Trio will appear at the Palace Theatre with members of the orchestra. This Brooklyn-based trio burst onto
the music scene with their landmark videos. The fall Pops concert last year (Speedbumps, a Kent-based acoustic band) received rave reviews for the packed house. This year’s group promises another fantastic performance.
“We really have a world-class orchestra – really an amazing gift for small town America,” noted Mr. Adrian Allison, Superintendent of The
Canton City School District. With musicians from across the globe, many who study at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Canton Symphony Orchestra boasts one of the best small town orchestras in the country.
“Many of our musicians end up playing in The Cleveland Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony, and other well-known orchestras around the
country. Our previous concertmaster is now concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. It’s really a gift the generations before us
established that makes incredibly professional and talented music available to the fine people right here in Canton,” commented Mullaly.
The orchestra remains under the direction of Gerhardt Zimmermann, who begins his 33rd year. Mullaly credits Zimmermann for maintaining
and improving the quality of musicianship and entertainment: “We are so fortunate to have a conductor who can bring world-class talent and
performance to Canton.”
Tickets start at a very affordable $18 for Pops and $25 for Masterworks concerts. There are senior, student and group discounts available.
Dress is casual and open to all ages. Tickets and the full concert season schedule are available online at www.CantonSymphony.org, by
calling 330-452-2094, or by walk-up at individual concerts. Some concerts do sell out in advance.
Founded in 1937, the Canton Symphony Orchestra is a fully professional ensemble and organization dedicated to performing concerts that
enrich, educate and entertain. Under the direction of Gerhardt Zimmermann, the orchestra performs classical, pops, holiday, and educational programs. Most performances are in Umstattd Performing Arts Hall, 2323 17th Street NW, Canton, Ohio (at McKinley High School across
from C.T. Branin Natatorium). Parking at McKinley High School is free. For more information, please visit www.CantonSymphony.org.

THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE CAN DO FOR YOU!
The Better Business Bureau has been around for over 100 years. Yet, many individuals still don’t know what they do and how they can help
them. Originally established in the early 1900’s, the goal was to correct advertising abuses. BBB’s quickly expanded to monitor business
performance and provide consumers with vital information to avoid the pitfalls in the marketplace. BBB’s were originally called “Vigilance
Committees”.
Today, BBB’s are committed to the belief that the majority of marketplace problems can be corrected through voluntary self-regulation. They
champion the cause of consumers and hold businesses accountable to the highest standards of honesty in their advertising and selling.
Better Business Bureaus number over 115 in the United States and Canada. Collectively, they provide service to nearly 25-30 million consumers each year. The biggest misnomer is that many people think they are a government agency, when in fact, they are a 503c(6) organization. They are financed through membership dues and non-dues revenue. They are not a legal firm much to the surprise of many. One of
the things you will find is that they will not give an opinion on a business but rather will give you facts that have been gathered over the years
on that particular business.
Businesses must meet tough BBB accreditation standards, agree to follow the highest principals of business ethics and voluntary self-regulation, and have accepted an invitation from the BBB to join. As a rule, a BBB report on an organization will contain; general background
information, complaint history, and other pertinent information. This information is developed through special BBB investigations and relevant
government actions.
One of the main focus points of any BBB is the ability to help with dispute resolution. Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration is offered as a
means of resolving many complaints against a business. Although the BBB greatly helps consumers and businesses through information and
business self-regulation, it is not a government agency, nor does it have law enforcement powers.
For consumers, the BBB helps in many ways. Business reports, charity reports, dispute resolution, consumer information clearinghouse,
business ethics promotion, fighting fraud, and scam alerts are just some of the many ways you can benefit from the organization. Accredited
businesses receive many benefits as well; workers compensation program, business & personal insurance programs, health care insurance,
long-term care coverage, employee handbook & drug prevention program, and workplace mediation are some of the programs offered.
Our local Better Business Bureau serving Canton Region and Greater West Virginia has been in business for over 50 years. Our service
area covers 12 counties in Ohio (Stark, Holmes, Tuscarawas, Carroll, Harrison, Jefferson, Guernsey, Belmont, Noble, Monroe, Morgan, and
Washington) and 52 counties in West Virginia. With a main office in Canton and a satellite office in Charleston, WV the BBB has about 2000
accredited businesses.
For more information about the BBB and to become an accredited business, call the office at 330-454-9401.
AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF CRITICAL-CARE NURSES RECOGNIZES THE AULTMAN MEDICAL
INTENSIVE CARE UNIT WITH BRONZE-LEVEL BEACON AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN), Aliso Viejo, Calif., recently awarded a bronze-level Beacon Award for Excellence to
the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Aultman Hospital.
The Beacon Award for Excellence — a significant milestone on the path to exceptional patient care and healthy work environments — recognizes unit caregivers who successfully improve patient outcomes and align practices with AACN’s six Healthy Work Environment Standards.
Units that earn this three-year, three-level bronze award designation meet national criteria consistent with Magnet Recognition, the Malcolm
Baldrige National Quality Award and the National Quality Healthcare Award.
AACN President Vicki Good, RN, MSN, CENP, applauds the commitment of the caregivers at Aultman’s MICU for working together to meet and
exceed the high standards set forth by the Beacon Award for Excellence. These dedicated health care professionals join other members of the
exceptional community of nurses who set the standard for optimal patient care.
“The Beacon Award for Excellence recognizes caregivers in stellar units whose consistent and systematic approach to evidence-based care
optimizes patient outcomes. Units that receive this national recognition serve as role models to others on their journey to excellent patient and
family care,” she explains.
The bronze-level Beacon Award for Excellence earned by the Aultman MICU signifies success in developing, deploying and integrating unitbased performance criteria for optimal outcomes. The MICU earned a bronze award by meeting the following evidence-based Beacon Award
for Excellence criteria:
•
Leadership structures and systems.
•
Appropriate staffing and staff engagement.
•
Effective communication, knowledge management, learning and development.
•
Evidence-based practice and processes.
•
Outcome measurement.
AACN honors all Beacon Award recipients with announcements in AACN Bold Voices, the monthly member magazine distributed to more than
100,000 acute and critical care nurses nationwide. AACN also honors awardees at the National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition,
the world’s largest educational conference and trade show for nurses who care for acutely and critically ill patients and their families.

MERCY MEDICAL CENTER RECEIVES AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CARDIOLOGY FOUNDATION’S NCDR®
ACTION REGISTRY®–GWTGTM PLATINUM PERFORMANCE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Mercy Medical Center has received the American College of Cardiology Foundation’s NCDR ACTION Registry–GWTG Platinum Performance
Achievement Award for 2013 – one of only 197 hospitals nationwide to do so. The award recognizes Mercy Medical Center’s commitment and
success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients, and signifies that Mercy has reached an aggressive goal of treating
these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and
recommendations.
To receive the ACTION Registry–GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award, Mercy Medical Center consistently followed the treatment
guidelines in the ACTION Registry–GWTG Premier for eight consecutive quarters and met a performance standard of 90 percent for specific
performance measures. Following these treatment guidelines improves adherence to ACC/AHA Clinical Guideline recommendations, monitors
drug safety and the overall quality of care provided to ST¬–elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and non- ST–elevation myocardial infarction
patients (NSTEMI).
“The American College of Cardiology Foundation and the American Heart Association commend Mercy Medical Center for its success in implementing standards of care and protocols. The full implementation of acute and secondary prevention guideline-recommended therapy is a critical
step in saving the lives and improving outcomes of heart attack patients,” stated James Jollis, M.D., FACC, ACTION Registry-GWTG Chair and
Professor of Medicine and Radiology at Duke University Hospital and Deepak L. Bhatt, M.D., MPH, FACC, FAHA, ACTION Registry-GWTG CoChair and Chief of Cardiology at VA Boston Healthcare System, Senior Physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Professor of Medicine
at Harvard Medical School.
“The time is right for Mercy Medical Center to be focused on improving the quality of cardiovascular care by implementing ACTION Registry–
GWTG,” said Ahmed Sabe, M.D., executive director of Mercy Heart Center and co-director of Mercy Emergency Chest Pain Center. “The number of acute myocardial infarction patients eligible for treatment is expected to grow over the next decade due to increasing incidence of heart
disease and a large aging population,” Sabe said.
ACTION Registry–GWTG is a partnership between the American College of Cardiology Foundation and the American Heart Association with
partnering support from the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. ACTION RegistryGWTG empowers health care provider teams to consistently treat heart attack patients according to the most current, science-based guidelines
and establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary
artery disease, specifically high-risk STEMI and NSTEMI patients.
Mercy Medical Center, a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, operates a 476-bed hospital serving Stark, Carroll, Wayne, Holmes
and Tuscarawas Counties and parts of Southeastern Ohio. It has 620 members on its Medical Staff and employs 2,500 people. Mercy operates
outpatient health centers in Carroll County, Jackson Township, Lake Township, Louisville, North Canton, Plain Township and Tuscarawas County.
A Catholic hospital, Mercy Medical Center upholds the mission and philosophy of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine and continues to be
responsive to the needs of the community. For more information, see cantonmercy.org.
DEHOFF REALTORS AMONG RARE GROUP NATIONALLY CERTIFIED TO WORK WITH MILITARY
HOMEBUYERS
Certified Military Housing Specialist Course educates housing professionals on the uniqueness of guiding the military through the process of
purchasing a home
DeHoff Realtors has achieved the rare distinction of becoming nationally certified to work with and understand the uniqueness of guiding military borrowers through the process of purchasing a home. DeHoff real estate agent David Angione has graduated from the Certified Military
Housing Specialist Course, which is exclusively offered by USA Cares, Inc., a national military assistance nonprofit that gives emergency financial support to military and their families.
This course aims to educate real estate professionals on the differences in working with military communities by training them on the unique
lifestyle circumstances often typical in the military.
The course and certification also helps real estate professionals make sense of the military’s “language,” ranking and pay system, all major
factors in determining how much a military member can afford when purchasing a home.
“DeHoff Realtors is sensitive to the military’s unique needs when purchasing a home,” said David Maltese, General Sales Manager. “With his
understanding of the military’s world and language, David is better equipped to serve our nation’s military and their families with the highest
standard.”
Besides educating real estate professionals, the course gives them advice regarding foreclosure prevention in the military community – all for
the purpose of better serving military customers and coaching them on how to avoid mortgage delinquencies.
About USA Cares
USA Cares, Inc. is a national nonprofit that raises funds and public awareness to supply post-9/11 career and non-career military service
members with grants to remedy the financial hardship caused by multiple deployments or service to the nation. The organization operates an
exclusive and unique program that trains financial professionals on the uniqueness of lending to military members.

If you’re ready to make the switch, call 330-588-4663 to find out if
you qualify for “Your Choice.”
