And in this niche, motor multihulls have a good card to play! QUEENSLAND 55 NEW The La Rochelle-based builder presented the flagship of its trawler fleet at the last Cannes Boat Show: the Queensland 55, whose full test you can find in this edition. With unique experience of motor catamarans over more than ten years, with the Maryland 37, the Greenland 34, and now the Highland 35 and especially the Cumberland 46, not to mention the Summerland 40, the builder is the undisputed leader in this area. This experience has been put to good use to create this Queensland 55, which fits perfectly into the builder’s new Flagship Class, and offers finishing of the same level as the exemplary Galathea. The saloon is huge, and brings together the lounge area, the dining room, the galley and the navigation area. The woodwork, the headlinings and the lighting provide a refined and luxurious atmosphere. Outside, the giant flybridge offers an external galley, a saloon, sunbathing areas and of course, the steering position... This trawler was designed to absorb the waves gently at a good average speed, to cover hundreds of miles in a few hours without fatigue, either for the boat or the crew, thanks to very moderate fuel consumption. Prout, which now builds its catamarans in China, is offering enthusiasts a whole range of sailing catamarans and trimarans, as well as motor catamarans. In the motor family, there is the G50, a long-term cruising catamaran, ideal for a round-the-world voyage as a family, with its 5,600 litres of diesel, and the SLY range, with the 62’,67’,73’ 78’ and 89’. The latter, the real flagship of the fleet, offers modern lines and avant-garde technological solutions. The hull notably has been the subject of particular care, with its wave-piercing bows, to offer performance, comfort at sea and above all, reduced consumption. The flybridge is quite simply huge, offering a pleasant steering position as well as a sunbathing area, a dining area with a very nice table, and another area aft, ideal for drinking an aperitif or resting whilst at sea around the cocktail table. From this flybridge, you descend directly forward, via wide side decks to the forward cockpit, equipped with sunbathing areas and comfortable seats. This will inevitably be the favourite area when cruising in the sunshine... A top-of-the-range boat, for lovers of beautiful boats! With its 3,000-mile range, its impressive, 260m² liveable area divided between three levels, the Noah 76 will appeal to a modernday adventurer looking for a boat aboard which to discover the world. Designed by VPLP, the interior design was looked after by Anne-Monique Bonadei, who has created a very ‘zen’ atmosphere - serene, pure and airy - which, along with the large convivial areas will offer unique moments as a family or with friends, and spacious cabins to protect the passengers’ privacy... Here is a boat which enters perfectly into the trawler category... A catamaran which offers a cruising speed of from 15 to 17 knots, and top speeds of 21/24 knots with the standard 2 x 260hp engines, with quite reasonable consumption. The builder has just launched a 52-footer and a 54, which, as always at Serenity, have specific a la carte accommodation, according to each owner’s wishes. But this catamaran’s programme is blue water cruising, to go and visit the islands on the other side of the world. A must, with this orientation, especially as the boat is built in Thailand, a very beautiful area in which to begin your cruise! The n°1 has been launched, and according to the builder, the first tests have been surprising, because with its 20 tonnes and 2 x 150hp engines, the Bamba 50 planes at 12 knots and reaches a top speed of 16 knots. All that remains is to validate the tests with the 90m² genoa, to try and reach a consumption of less than 10 l/h at 10 knots, which would offer a very good range and above all, a really attractive alternative for a blue water cruising boat... As for the accommodation, Bamba Yachts is offering real customisation, according to each owner’s tastes. IDENTITY FILE Builder: Bamba Yachts - Length: 15 m - Beam: 6.80 m - Draft: 1 m Displacement: 18 tonnes - Engines: 2 x 150 to 2 x 310 hp Water capacity: 800 L - Diesel capacity: 4,000 L Price: 1,300,000 euros exc. VAT - Country: France In 2008, Sunreef made a conspicuous entry into the motor boat world, with the Power 70. It must be said that the first owner of this catamaran in its ‘Expedition’ version is none other than Laurent Bourgnon, who has already sailed half way round the world, passing via the Patagonian channels. The following models are more classical, even though they have all been built according to their owners’ wishes. The Power 70’s programme is comfortable ocean cruising, with luxurious accommodation, an exceptional liveable volume, a giant flybridge and a range which will allow you to go to the ends of the earth… IDENTITY FILE Builder: Sunreef Yachts - Length: 21.40 m - Beam: 9.30 m - Draft: 1.50 m Displacement: 55,000 kg - Engines: 2 x 370 to 2 x 875 hp Range: 3000 miles at 8 knots - Diesel capacity: 2 x 2500 L Water capacity: 2 x 750 L - Accommodation: A la carte - Price: 2,100,000 euros Country: Poland Multihulls world - #115 97 96-99 MOTEURS_MM144-US:Moteurs 9/11/10 14:11 2011 BUYER’S GUIDE / Page 98 MOTOR MULTIHULLS LEOPARD 47 PC JAG 550 They don’t just make sailing catamarans at Robertson & Caine... There is also the Léopard 47 PC, a motor boat meeting the same builder’s requirements in terms of build quality and liveaboard pleasure. Offered in a charter version, with four double cabins and four heads, or an owner’s version, with three cabins, including one very nice hull reserved for the ‘pasha’, this 47-footer is capable of taking you ocean cruising quickly and comfortably, thanks to its sufficiently powerful engines. A boat which will delight the Moorings charter customers as much as possible owners looking for a versatile motor catamaran. Dean has always dared to develop its catamarans according to its wishes and convictions, and not according to fashion. This is again the case with the Jag, a motor catamaran with an innovative and particularly stylised design. With its asymmetric hulls and its futuristic look, the Jag 550 offers accommodation on four deck levels, to offer a new way of living at sea, notably with the completely closed cockpit or the huge owner’s cabin, situated over the whole of the aft part of the yacht and with an exceptional view of the sea. The Jag reaches a maximum speed of 28 knots with 2 x 480 hp engines, but only consumes 10.8 l/h at 10 knots. The Summerland 40 is very appealing, as it will suit owners looking for a long term cruising catamaran, with its 1,000 mile range at 7.5 knots, as well as those who want above all a boat to spend (dream) holidays or weekends with friends. Aboard, everything has been designed for enjoyable cruising, thanks to areas free of any obstacles, the well-sheltered cockpit and of course, the superb flybridge... VAT - Country: France 98 Multihulls world - January/February 2011 Here is a catamaran derived from the excellent sailing Fusion 40 which the builder is now producing in a motor version. The most significant change from the original sailing Fusion 40 lies in the work on the hulls and the new flybridge. Well visually balanced and proportioned, it gives this Fusion Power refined lines. With its very futuristic coachroof and its new hulls, it offers good comfort both at sea and at anchor, as well as excellent performance: at 15 knots (its cruising speed), it consumes less than 2 litres per engine per mile. It is therefore an excellent compromise for ocean cruising and family voyages. The work on the hull has allowed a particularly sober cruising catamaran to be obtained, as the consumption calculated by the architect would be from 1 to 2 litres per mile. Depending on the engines (2 x 75hp or 2 x 125hp) the cruising speed will settle at between 12 and 14 knots with the smaller engine choice, and 14 to 16 knots with the larger...
