Dickson Electric Systems upgrades to first
full control room.
Overview
Dickson Electric Systems has an eye on the future. Through
telemetry improvements in the field and deployment of an
Outage Management System, DES needed a formal control room.
They turned to Bilfinger Mauell Corporation to design a space
within their existing building. Working with DES’s architect,
Bilfinger Mauell engineered a space to accommodate 2 separate control theaters, a supervisor office, war room, and training
space. Bilfinger Mauell was also awarded the supply of the
systems and worked directly with DES’s architect and general
contractor to manage phasing schedules and oversight of the
final construction.

Final Solution (
This was an unfamiliar project for Dickson and their first experience
with a full control room. Bilfinger Mauell took this into consideration, guiding the process and relieving stress levels. Bilfinger Mauell
updated DES to a new system of video panels, which replaced the
old system of computers and physical maps. Dickson was provided
with an improved console system for its new control theater.

Successes
Bilfinger Mauell oversaw much of the work done by outside
companies, including the creation of construction documents with
a local A/E firm, for DES to use with a general contractor. Bilfinger
Mauell also converted what was originally a spacious basement into
a complete control room with other necessary and useful rooms
built in, such as a meeting and training rooms. Thanks to Bilfinger
Mauell, Dickson’s system restoration process has been quickened by
at least 4 hours over previous outages of similar magnitude.
