History, museums, restaurants, bars, pubs, shopping – You can find everything in Tel Aviv. In the next pages you will find the addresses of all the festival venues (workshops & parties), relevant maps and public transportation info. So I just landed in Israel. Now what?! To get to Tel Aviv city center you have a few options: Take the train: Just outside the terminal you will see signs that direct you to the train station. Take the northbound train. The closest station to the workshop venue is: "Tel Aviv HaShalom" station. Another main train station is "Tel Aviv Savidor Merkaz". Outside these train stations you will find many bus lines which can take you anywhere you want. http://www.rail.co.il/EN On Friday, the last train from the airport leaves at 14:08. On Saturday, the first train starts at 19:30. Price: 15 ILS (3 euro) Take a Taxi: When you exit the terminal, turn left and you will see signs that direct you to the taxi station. A taxi to central Tel-Aviv can cost between 120-150ILS (2530 euro). Up to 4 people can share a taxi. Make sure to ask the driver to turn on the taxi meter. Workshop Venues This year, we will be using several venues. All workshop venues are within 5 minutes walk from each other and located in the heart of Tel Aviv. Attention: Registrations, auditions and competition prelims will take place at our main workshop venue, "Bikurey Ha'itim" Center. Also, there will be a snack bar at the main workshop venue, selling drinks and snacks at affordable prices. Click here for a google map of all venues. Main Workshop Venue "Bikurey Ha'itim" center "Bikurey Ha'itim" Center is located in the heart of Tel-Aviv, close to many central locations such as shops, restaurants and more... Most of the workshops will take place at this venue, as well as registrations and prelims. Most of the studios in this venue has linoleum floors, so make sure to bring your slippery shoes. Secondary Workshop Venue "Adi Davidovich Flamenco Center" This venue is located 5 minutes walking distance from our main venue. Some workshops will take place at this venue on Friday and Sunday. This venue has linoleum floors, so make sure to bring your slippery shoes. Address: 2 Kaplan Street, "Beit Yachin", -1 floor, Tel Aviv. You should take the stairs to floor -1 and walk in the hallway until you reach the studio. Secondary Workshop Venue "ZOA – Academy room" This venue is located 5 minutes walking distance from our main venue. This venue has wooden floors. Some workshops will take place at this venue on Friday and Sunday. Address: 1 Daniel Frisch Street, Tel Aviv, 1st floor. Venue Map 1 Party Venues Thursday Pre-Party – January 22nd: On Thursday night we welcome you with a BLINDY PRE-PARTY. What is Blindy you ask? Blues + Lindy Hop! Holy Lindy Land will host us at their weekly party and DJ a mixed set of Blues and Lindy Hop! Time: 23:00 (11pm) Cost: 25 ILS (5 euro) – Payment is in Israeli Shekels only. Address: Heftman 6 street, Tel Aviv, "Bikurey Ha'itim Center", Studio E (2nd floor). Bus lines: 9, 24, 25, 26, 38, 39, 63, 82, 89, 100, 125, 126, 189, 192, 289, 418 and more. Sunday Night Party – January 25th: The Sunday night party will be held at the "Panorama Dance Floor Club". (The club has an amazing wooden floor!). Address: Ben Tsvi 84, Tel Aviv Bus Lines: 7, 17, 96, 119, 189, 201, 289 and more Friday Night Party - January 23rd: The Friday night party will be held at Studio Naim – a great venue with wooden floors and a great atmosphere. Soft drinks and snacks will be served free of charge. This party is a BYOB (Bring your own bottle). Address: 46 Salame Road, Tel Aviv Arrival: Public transportation on Friday is limited. You can take "Sherut Taxi" number 4 or 5 and stop at Shderot Har Zion or Rotchild Blvd and walk. The best option on Friday night is to share a taxi with fellow dancers. Saturday Night Party – January 24th: The Saturday night party will be held at "Ha'Ezor Club" (The Zone). The club has wooden floors and an amazing atmosphere. Monday Night Fusion after Party – January 20th: The after party will be held at the "Dancing Camel" pub. Address: 12 Ha'taasia Street, Tel Aviv. Bus Lines: 23, 50, 51, 60, 71, 75, 76, 83, 160, 171, 173, 271, 272, 274 Venue Map 2 Schedule Public Transportation Buses: Tel-Aviv has 2 main bus companies: Dan & Egged. In the "location" section you can see all the bus lines that can take you to the different venues. Auditions – Pay attention – all levels (aside from invited track & solo track) are subject to auditions. Auditions will start at 10:00AM sharp! Make sure you arrive early enough to register and be ready for the auditions. Attention! Bus lines do not operate between Friday afternoon and Saturday evening! Sherut Taxi (Service Taxi): These yellow mini-vans have a set route (mostly the same route as the bus line with the same line number). They are slightly more expensive. They will stop for you at any point along their route. Don't forget to request a stop when you get on! The service taxis arrive every 5 minutes and operate between 6am-3am every day, including weekends. Service Taxi 5 and 4a' stop nearby our workshop venue. Ask the driver to drop you off at "Ha'Bima Theater" Taxi: Available all the time. When you get into the taxi ask the driver to turn on the meter. Phone no: 03-7322535, 03-6994242, 03-6081333, or, download the "GetTaxi" application on your smartphone. Bicycle Rental: Tel Aviv has a bicycle rental service around town (Tel-O-Fun). You can buy daily or weekly subscriptions, using your credit card. Make sure to keep the note that comes out of the machine in order to be able to go and rent bicycles at other stations for the rental period. You will have two 2 hour workshops with two amazing teachers – Justin Riley and Mike Legenthal. Each of them prepared a special workshop for teachers including pedagogy, scene building, new teaching concepts and more. This day is open for anyone who is a local teacher/organizer, or, would like to get into teaching. This is your number for all competitions, prelims & finals, so keep it safe. Solo blues & Showcase finals will be held during Friday night party. Jack N' Jill finals will be held during the Sunday Night Party. Solo Blues Competition: Solo Blues prelims will be held on Friday, January 23rd, right after the workshops (16:45). The competitors who made it to the finals will be announced on Friday, at the beginning of the party and on-line. You can register to the solo blues competition until 15:00 (3pm) on Friday, January 23rd. The prelims will be held in an all-skate format (2 heats). Competitors will be dancing to 3 different blues songs. The finals will be held in an open ended spotlight format (ending with all-skate). Each competitor will get the spotlight to show off and then clear the spotlight for the next competitor. After spotlights, the competitors will dance in an all-skate format until the song ends. Jack N' Jill Competition (Open & Advanced): J N' J prelims will be held on Saturday, January 24th, right after the workshops (16:45). We will start with the open JnJ prelims, and then continue to the advanced JnJ prelims. The competitors who made it to the finals will be announced on Sunday, during the workshops. You can register to our J&J competition until 15:00 (3pm) on Saturday, January 24th. The prelims will be held in an all-skate format. Competitors will dance to 3 different blues songs and change partners after each song. The finals will be held in an open ended spotlight format (ending with all-skate). This time the competitors will dance with one partner. Each couple will get the spotlight to show what they've got and then clear the spotlight for the next couple. After spotlights, the competitors will dance in an all-skate format until the song ends. Showcase Division: All showcases will be performed during the Friday Night Party. Routines must be a minimum of two minutes and a maximum of four minutes in length. Competitors select their own music. All lifts, drops, aerials, airsteps and acrobatics are allowed. Competitors may perform a solo, partnered or a small group routine. If you signed up for the showcase division but haven't sent your music yet, please send it as soon as possible to sharon@feelinblues.com Places to Eat Our workshop venues are located in the center of Tel-Aviv. The main street, Ibn Gabirol, is full with restaurants for every budget. Also, you can find many restaurants and coffee shops at the new "Sarona" area (right on the corner of Kaplan Street and Leonardo De Vinci Street). Within three minute walking distance you can find: Mc'donlands River Asian Cuisine Ha'Miznon – Everything in a pita bread. Hummus Pizza Sushi And much more… Furthermore, on the ground floor of the main workshop venue there will be a coffee corner where you will be able to purchase coffee, tea, energy snacks, brownies, fresh fruits and more, all at very affordable prices. Be sure that you won't stay hungry. Places to see Israel is a country rich in history and culture. Everyone can find something to like. Many dancers who are joining the festival expressed their desire to stay for a few days after the event and tour the country. Places we recommend: Tel Aviv – The city that never sleeps. Explore the shopping districts (Dizingoff Street, Market Carmel, Nahalat Binyamin, Sheinkin Street…), the beach, museums, historical sites and more. Old Jaffa – Just minutes from Tel Aviv you will discover the amazing old city – One of the world's oldest port cities. Don't forget to eat Hummus at "Ali Karawan" (Abu Hasan). The Dead Sea and Masada. Jerusalem – Jews, Christians, Muslims or none of the above? Everyone will find Jerusalem as one of the most amazing cities on earth. Recommended free tour in Jerusalem: www.newjerusalemtours.com Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee. Weather Israeli weather during January can be tricky. We might have sunny days and we might have colder rainy days. Please make sure to pack proper clothing for warmer/colder weather, as well as an umbrella. Please note that Jerusalem, Golan Heights and the Sea of Galilee are colder areas than Tel Aviv. Make sure to bring warm clothes with you!
