Top Guns – Recharged!
Just like buying a new bull, fresh blood to the herd is always a good thing. The new additions to Top Guns is like the first spring rain. Each new member
attains a marketability quality towards both themselves and their cattle. AND - they all have the fortitude to buy and walk their own herdbulls. These attributes
have never changed to deem an invitation to be a “Top Gun” since I had the first meeting with Les and Larry Stulberg several years ago.
Action Simmentals, the Wallace McComish family of Stettler, are an original to the Top Guns Bull Sale. The Action herd has always operated as a business much like Wallace’s Stettler based excavation company. The McComish family have now formed an alliance with John and Stephon of Beechinor
Bros. Simmentals, Bentley, who are managing the bulk of the existing Action herd to eventually take it over in its entirety. They currently run a Simmental
cowherd that we’ve had the privilege to see them assemble from many Transcon managed sales. They have already started to establish their reputation
as bull producers with good success in recent years at the Red Deer Select Bull Sale. The Action/Beechinor bull pen is now upgraded to buying the best
from two herds.
The most famous name in the history of the Simmental breed is Bar 5 Stock Farms Ltd. They annually have consigned a top contingent of bulls to our
December Fleck Select sale, but as the bulls are housed and wintered at Yellow Rose Cattle Co anyways, Bobbi-Gayle wisely invited this powerhouse
name to Top Guns. This group will consist of entirely fall born long yearlings, or coming two year olds. The Fullblood genetics of Bar 5 are generally a new
outcross to current North American pedigrees.
While determining possible new Top Guns members, Wallace and Bobbi-Gayle asked me who the most inquired-about bulls of the spring belonged to.
Immediately, Ferme Gagnon came to mind. These Quebec breeders operate with a professional demeanor of the highest standards and carry as much
class as anyone, without any arrogance. The cattle they produce are as genetically right as any on the continent. When they head west with bulls, there
are never a lot of them, but they are their best, most of them having earned spots in their previous year’s show string.
Robert Lind, Timber Meadows Simmentals, is a well known face in the agriculture community and as good an ambassador as the Simmental breed has
ever had. Robert’s meticulous nature reflects well from his Simmental herd as a no-nonsense approach of “no favorites” applies in the genetic management. Herdbulls stacked in the pedigrees that have worked “real time” at Timber Meadows can be found consistently on his registration papers. The 14
Timber Meadows bulls are all brothers sired by the main herdsire WFL Timber Quest. Look further and many 3/4 brothers will appear as Red Herc and
Timber Cat show up as maternal grandsires.
The Cichon family of Wells’ Crossing Cattle Co own a beautiful ranch along the banks of the “Little Red” south of Sundre. Ranch manager Rob “Chub”
Lundago’s very capable abilities are becoming more and more obvious each passing season as his main interest is to represent the best image possible for
the Cichon’s Simmental herd. The team efforts of owner/manager selected one of the high selling bulls from Top Guns in 2006, named Renegade, whose
first daughter to sell last December at Calgary Round-Up commanded $28,000. The bulls from WCC selling at Top Guns are ALL Renegade sons.
Operating as much like a commercial herd as any, from the vast coulee pastures they summer in, to the largest winter bull pens in the country, the Yellow
Rose bulls are not ever the fattest to sell, but are some of the most tested. Some of the nation’s most famous cow families meld to one of the best bull
batteries anywhere, including Bar 5 Pharoah, Lot 1, who sells with five very impressive sons at this year’s Top Guns. The YR bulls pack a pedigree and
have had a very low return rate over the years.
Transcon Livestock is very proud to present the RECHARGED 2008 Top Guns Bull Sale. We of course hope to see you there, however, as many commercial
cattlemen know, everyone has access to use our highly respected and trusted team for sight unseen purchases if you can’t be there in person.

you that bull (or bulls) for the best value and quality, in your budget.

never paid incentive buying commissions or bonuses by the sellers. Your

Beechinor Bros. Simmentals is very excited to have the opportunity to be involved in Top Guns. We
wish to continue the strong tradition of this sale serving the commercial industry with top quality
reputation breeding stock. We currently have 120 fullblood, red and black purebred cows that run
alongside 300 Simmental cross commercial cows. We put a strong emphasis on stacking productive
cow families with traits that allow for low maintenance cows, such as tidy udders, sound feet and
moderate birth weights. Thickness, depth of body, carcass traits, docility and costumer satisfaction are always on the forefront with our bulls. With the use of embryo transfer, quality herd sires
and exclusive semen we are working on our goal of further improving the Simmental breed. This
year we have had the chance of teaming up with Wallace McComish, with the future prospect of
purchasing his herd. Please feel free to stop by at the sale or give us a call to discuss the specific
needs of your cow herd. We look forward to the opportunity of meeting with you.

Turbo is an outstanding Quorum son that was quite a sight standing alongside his first calf
dam in the summer. This double red, double polled bull is anchored by none other than SU
Diamond, a powerful cow that has left numerous productive daughters and sons working in
purebred herds. Great udders are also passed down in this maternal line and this is evident
in Turbo’s mother. When you see him you will want to Turbo charge your cow herd.

purchased this big bodied, heavy milking cow from the Stulberg’s dispersal as a high seller

Francesca. Moderate birth weight and explosive growth tied together in a dark red deep
sided bull. Trademark was designed both phenotypically and genetically to do great things
for the beef industry, whether it be in a purebred or commercial herd.

Tonka is a bull that is ready to go out and do the job. His dam is a female that possesses
an exceptional udder with great teat size and length. Also she carries good rib depth over
strong feet. Tonka himself brings these characteristics with him along with good pigmentation and a wonderful hair coat. But sorry no udder on this masculine bull!

With thickness, pigmentation and docility this guy demands attention. His dam is a nice

Trojan is a nice moderate South African Three Sixes bull out of a correct DFM Marcus
dam. This bull is red down to the ground on all four feet. We have been very impressed
with the Three Sixes calves. They calve easy and get up and grow. Trojan’s smooth
shoulders and nice face indicates that he will follow in his sire’s footsteps. As we say at

Once again DFM Phoebe has created a smooth made bull with a soggy mid section. Her
last year’s Three Sixes bull was our high seller going to Jackie Littler’s purebred herd.
Don’t think we have too many other cows that can carry as much meat on her bones
as she can. This bull is almost as dark red as you can make a Fleck and has got the
pigmentation thing going on. Bar 5 Kalgery is a good South African bull that we were
lucky enough to get some of the last semen available.

We at Wells’ Crossing are delighted to take part in the Top
Guns Bull Sale.
Our ranching operation is family oriented, multi-generational,
and internationally respected. Our goal is to keep building upon
a sound programme that will continue for generations to come,
always meeting the needs of our buyers by developing genetics
that reflect current trends.
Working with us to achieve our vision is Rob Lundago. Visit with
Rob at the sale and feel free to call him or us with any questions
you might have about our offering.
Jean, Barb & Stan
We are bringing the cream of our bull calves to the sale.
Their dams are all front pasture ladies. We purchased the dams of WCC
5T, 10T, 12T and 25T from the great BEL herd and they consistently give us
outstanding calves. The dams of WCC 1T, 13T, 14T, and 18T are of our own
breeding programme. We are very pleased with their offspring. They, and the
daughters we have retained, work brilliantly in our herd.
Check out all of their pedigrees – the stalwarts of the Simmental breed appear
throughout.

CEN Renegade 504R
Purchased at the Top Guns sale, Renegade has proven to be a
valuable addition to our herd sire line-up. We offered four of his
daughters at the Calgary Round-Up sale in December and we offer
eight of his sons here. Therefore, all of our animals in this sale are
half brothers to WCC Pld Talulah 7T, the $28,000 heifer purchased
this past December by Prospect Hill Simmentals in Ontario. Renegade stamps his calves well by consistently delivering dark red
colour, extra muscle and desirable hair coat. We know that his
offspring will work well in any herd.
There will be no Renegade semen available for sale in the foreseeable future. This is your only chance this year to put his powerful
genetics into your programme. Buy one of his sons and make a
great investment for the future of your herd.

We are pleased to have been invited to the “New” Top Guns Sale. This sale in the past
has been a great success and we think that with the new consigners it will continue
to be an impressive place to purchase your herd sires.
In the last couple of years we switched primarily to a summer and fall calving program.
Therefore, we had a lot of bulls who came off test last fall to choose from and we
selected a cross section of our breeding program from the top of these test groups to
put into our first “TOP GUNS” Sale. Because of their age, they are ready and willing
to start breeding.

Delivery Options
Option A: $50 off per lot if picked up sale day.
Option B: Free Delivery anywhere in the four western provinces. We
will do everything possible to personally drop your new bull(s) in your
yard. However in rare cases, and for convenience reasons, a “central
point” may be used or you may be asked to receive your bull(s) early
so we don’t have to make two trips to the same area.
Free Boarding
We will keep your bull purchase(s) free of charge until you need them.
Similarly to the delivery policy, in rare cases and for convenience reasons, you may be asked to receive your bull(s) when a combined load
is transported to your area.
Volume Discounts
Because of the number of quality bulls offered at Top Guns, it is very likely
you will be able to purchase all your bulls here. We therefore would like
to reward those who purchase three or more bulls at this sale with a 5%
discount applied against your total purchase price.

Dreamworks is a top performing double red, double polled meat wagon. A true breeder bull in
his makeup, and carrying that special genetic package; Dream On X Bodybuilder, originating
from our full fleckvieh donor, 46F. If you want to build a herd, he is certainly rich enough in
what he has to offer. You will not find a “squarer” hipped bull. Out of a tremendously productive
first calver, he weaned off at 77% of his dam’s body weight! Meat and milk from the flecks,
calving ease and the polled head from the reds. A package ready for the times.

Here’s a herdbull prospect that will certainly get a lot of attention. A planned mating to recreate Barb’s Paint magic, the popular $9200 heifer sold in our ’06 production sale to Chandor
Farms, and one of the most competitive bred heifers on last year’s show circuit. The Painter
X Legend cross is one that we will exploit in the next few years. A good mix of performance,
eye appeal, thickness, calving ease and maternal. Barbaresco is a direct son of our model
cow Barbarella, a daughter of our donor 46F. From a strong cow family, this liver red, thick
butted, sound and gentle herdbull will live up to your expectations.

Another good representative of the Painter X Legend cross, but this time going back to a full
sister to Legend’s Charm, and a 51G grandson. Newton is one that we discovered later last fall.
He was so strong that we put the halter on, and 2 weeks later he was capturing the Reserve
Calf Champion title at the Toronto Royal! That’s how good he is. But more important than
ribbons, Newton exemplifies the strength of this breed. He’s as soggy as they can be, sound,
rugged and with a disposition second to none. More than what he is, is what he carries and
will transmit. We just can’t say enough of what 51G has produced over the years. Add Legend
on top of that, and we think you can’t be more secure than that for the years to come.
