Resicare Spring Newsletter 2015
Hello Everyone,
It has been a long time
since our last newsletter,
and a lot has happened
since then.
We have faced many new
challenges and successes
as we worked through
transformational changes.
Due to the great team
work of individuals we
support, families, staff,
volunteers and our funders Resicare has experienced positive outcomes.
As you read this spring
newsletter I hope you enjoy the pictures and reading about some of the
special events we have
taken part in recently.
With spring well on its
way, I hope we can begin
to spend more time outside to soak up the warm
sun and breath in the
crisp fresh air.
Have a wonderful spring,
and remember to take
time to pause and enjoy
all the wonders of this
time of the year!

A huge thank you to all our volunteers
Volunteers are critical partners in the operation of Resicare. Owning three homes and keeping them safe, attractive
and compliant with standards is very costly when maintenance and repair dollars are limited. Volunteerism has a
major economic impact in completing the never ending list of tasks in the group living homes. Fortunately various
companies provide us with manpower on a volunteer basis.
Thank you to Shell Canada Ltd. who participated in a United Way Days of Caring project and installed living/dining room laminate floor at House #1 in December 2014.
Thank you also to TransAlta Corporation including our residential client: Alan Braithwaite’s brother-in-law who
did general yard cleanup at House #1 in October 2014.
With the assistance of volunteers from Devon Canada Cooperation and General Electric Canada we did general
yard cleanup, pruning and weeding the garden beds at House #2 in June 2014. We truly appreciate you!

Facility maintenance at House #3
House 3 is getting a little update! We are so exciting to be getting new flooring! The Alberta Job Core has been
working hard at house 3 since mid January removing the old flooring in the laundry room, Living/Dining Room
and bathroom upstairs. We are getting fresh ceramic tile in the Bathroom upstairs and Laundry room and nice
clean laminate in the living/dining room upstairs. We have had many crews come through our home prepping the
floors for the next crews to continue with the work. We are also excited to be receiving new arborite paneling for
the bottoms of our walls. We are very thankful for their hard work and cheerful disposition in the house. The
guys are enjoying talking with the workers and watching them work. We cannot wait for our home to be completed and updated so we can show it off to everyone!
"Looks great!, I'm glad we are getting an upgrade" says Bart.
"I cannot wait for the new bathroom" says Phillip

Resicare has had a long standing positive relationship with Calgary Bow MLA - Alana Delong. Due to this relationship Alana brought Resicare’s name forward to a well respected organization she has worked with for many
years. The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a Not for Profit Organization that recycles, repurposes and
donates electronics and IT equipment to those who would not otherwise benefit from such items. Resicare Society received a donation of seven (7) refurbished laptop computers. These computers will greatly improve the lives
of the individuals who received them; providing opportunities that otherwise did not exist.
Resicare is extremely thankful for the combined generosity of both the ERA and the Honorable Alana Delong.

Easter Traditions Around the world
With the month of April rapidly approaching, Easter will soon be upon us. Stores
are already filled with marshmallow bunnies and Easter
baskets, and egg dyeing kits have made their appearance.
Countries all over the world celebrate the holiday differently. Italy holds reenactments of the Easter story held
in the public squares. Cyprus holds bonfires in the yards
of schools and churches. In Germany, eggs are set in
trees, called Easter egg trees, similar to the Christmas
tree. The Czech Republic and Slovakia have several
unique Easter traditions. One features the males of a
family spanking females with a homemade whip decorated with ribbons. The spanking is lighthearted and is believed to bring health over the next year. The men may
also dump cold water on them in some areas. It is also a day for men to pay visits to
objects of their affection.
Easter is an important holiday in Greece, where on the island of Corfu, residents
toss pots of water out of windows, following the Venetian tradition of breaking pots in celebration. They
also bake cakes in the shape of doves, called kolompines. Guyana flies homemade kites, a tradition often participated in by citizens of all religions. In North America, we love to celebrate Easter with a visit from the
Easter Bunny, an Easter Parade or an egg hunt.
Regardless of how, the fact this springtime holiday is
celebrated all over the world is, in itself, cause for celebration.
I hope you have enjoyed this month’s newsletter. If you have something you would
like included in an upcoming newsletter, please feel free to contact me. I can be
reached through email at ajozsa@resicare.org.
Sincerely,
Annamaria Jozsa
