Allegheny County Parks SPRING 2015 PROGRAM AND EVENT
Allegheny County Parks SPRING 2015 PROGRAM AND EVENT GUIDE For some, it may be hard to believe that the Allegheny County Parks system has been in existence for 88 years. From its creation with North and South Park, to today’s system which includes nine parks and more than 12,000 acres, our parks have always been one of our most important assets. Parks are not just places that people go to get healthy and stay fit, although they certainly serve those purposes as well. Simply walking in the park can reduce your stress and lower your blood pressure, and parks provide a place for children and families to connect with nature. Last year, Allegheny County launched an initiative called Live Well Allegheny which is intended to improve the health and wellness of county residents. The effort focuses on more than just physical health – it also includes mental wellness, personal and community safety, preparedness, efforts to improve well-being and quality of life, education and health literacy. While we are working with numerous stakeholders, partners, municipalities and schools to make this vision a reality, our parks can be a centerpiece for meeting our goals. I’m excited to provide you with this seasonal program and event guide. It includes 19 new programs and events. For the first time, you will also be able to register for programs online and pay the registration fee at the same time. Our parks are extremely important and valuable to our residents and visitors. We take seriously the commitment to invest in, improve and protect them, and we look forward to continuing to provide the amenities that citizens want. We hope the programming and offerings are of interest to you, and we look forward to your feedback and comments on our efforts this Spring.
