WinterKids’ programs for families, schools, and communities reached more Maine kids than ever
during the 2010-2011 season.

proved that outdoor, active learning is not only
fun—it’s effective and healthy, too!

A beautiful Maine winter set the stage perfectly
for our exciting new school program, which
encourages active, outdoor education
during our longest, most sedentary season.
By accepting the WinterKids Challenge, 85
teachers in schools throughout the state agreed
to take their students outside for at least three
active lessons over the course of the winter.
The goal? Get healthy, get fit—and make
learning fun! A remarkable 1600 Maine
students successfully completed Year
One of the WinterKids Challenge.

584 kids and adults—many from the
immigrant and refugee community in
Maine—learned how to have fun and
be safe during the winter through our
Welcome to Winter outreach programs.
286 kids and parents attended
663 kids in after-school programs
learned how to snowshoe through our
WinterKids Outdoor Adventures.
With Families…
4,225 kids in 5th, 6th or 7th grade tried
downhill skiing, cross country skiing, ice
skating and more with the WinterKids
Passport.
790 kids in preschool through 4th grade
tried cross country skiing or snowshoeing
with the WinterKids FunPass.
1,150 kids and family members enjoyed
special discounts during WinterKids’
Passport Family Days at downhill ski
areas across the state.
