be practiced. We will also glaze and use the kiln to finish-off our
original clay creations. Please bring your creativity and prepare to
get dirty with a favorite Medway art teacher.
In this class, children experience many of the fine arts! All children participate in self-esteem building theater games, singing
and vocal exercises, as well as dance and movement. We also
create the back drop and props for our performance piece, “It’s A
Hard Knock Life” from Annie, with an on-stage performance on
Saturday, June 13th. Come live the arts!

YOU CAN AFFORD COLLEGE IF you PLAN in advance, UNDERSTAND the financial aid process, and ACT early enough to
be successful. Financial Aid goes to the families who plan in advance - ideally before December 31 of your child’s sophomore
year of high school. This course will teach you the concepts and
strategies that will help you maximize your financial aid by understanding the process and how implementing strategies may
increase a family’s eligibility even if you have a “high income”
or own a business. The greatest amount of financial aid goes to
the families who act in the years before college. REMEMBER:
Procrastination equals less financial aid. All schools are not alike,
so it is important to know your options and opportunities. A free
financial aid analysis will be available to all attendees. For more

Learn the art of Kempo Karate. This six-week program offers
beginner and advanced levels. The beginner level teaches
age-appropriate self-defense techniques; the advanced level is
for students who have previously taken Karate and focuses on
more difficult age-appropriate self-defense techniques. Both
levels teach important life skills, such as confidence, selfcontrol, and patience. The biggest benefit to karate is that it is an
individual sport in which each student works at his or her own
pace. The last class will include a test during which the students
will demonstrate the skills they have learned during the program.
At the conclusion of the test, the students will earn their rank,

PRIVATE MUSIC LESSONS
HEARTSAVER PEDIATRIC FIRST AID & CPR
The Medway Music Department is excited to present a Private
Lesson Program, which serves students in grades 5 - 12. The
program runs in partnership between the Medway Public Schools’
Music Department, Medway Community Education, and the
Medway Friends of Performing Arts. Currently, the program
offers lessons for the traditional concert band instruments.
Lessons are available at a rate of $23.00 per 30-minute lesson,
$35.00 per 45-minute lesson, and $46.00 per 60-minute lesson.
The private lesson program offers students an opportunity to
study their instrument with a professional specialist in a one-onone setting. This does not replace existing class group lessons and
band classes, where instruction is presented by school department
staff. Instead, the program offers further training in fundamentals,
technique, musicianship, and solo repertoire. This type of local
program also helps parents avoid transporting students to other
towns for private lessons.
Does your job require certification in First Aid and CPR? This
course meets the requirements of camp counselors, babysitters,
and children’s sports organizations. The Heartsaver Pediatric First
Aid course, taught under the guidelines of the American Heart
Association, is designed for anyone who may need to respond
to a first-aid emergency. This course teaches participants how
to handle injuries and manage illness in the first few minutes
until help arrives. The six modules covered in this course are

COLD PROCESS SOAP MAKING
NEW
Ann Fisher; Molly’s Apothecary
Join us in this exciting class to learn how to make soap from
scratch, using organic ingredients, essential oils, perfume and
cosmetic grade fragrances, botanicals and other wonderful ingredients! All participants will make their own log of soap. The soap
needs to stay in the studio overnight and may be picked-up the
next day. Please wear old clothes as we are working with colorants, oils and fragrances. Minimum age requirement is 16, accompanied by a parent or guardian; otherwise 18 and older.
Experience a relaxing night out as you rediscover the enjoyable
pastime of coloring! Participants in this class will begin by
selecting one of Ms. Moffatt’s Mandalas printed on high
quality paper. Tips will then be given on color choices, along
with techniques for blending and smoothly applying color.
Psychologists have been using coloring as a relaxation technique
since the early 20th century. Adult coloring has recently become
a popular trend and has been proven to help relieve stress. Try out
this beneficial activity and at the same time create a beautiful and
intricate piece of artwork for your home.

Ciabatta and French Country Bread
John Scott Smith
Ahhh - the sweet smell of bread baking! Most home bakers want
to try the more challenging to make (and delicious to eat!) “wet”
dough breads, like Italian ciabatta and French country bread.
Now it’s your turn! Come out to learn how to confidently turn
these loose doughs into better breads than you will find at most
bakeries. Medway home baker, John Scott Smith, will walk you
through kneading wet dough, the “stretch and fold” technique to
further develop gluten and shaping, your loaves. Bring an appetite
as we will be tasting samples and discussing some of the finer
points of bread baking, together.

ADULT - HOME & LEISURE
The six modules covered in this course are
First Aid Basics, Medical Emergencies, Injury Emergencies,
Environmental Emergencies, Adult CPR, and Pediatric CPR.
Certification is good for two years.
Change is constant and some changes may leave us perplexed,
fearful and immobile. Join us to learn simple, effective and
proven strategies to aid us as we move through transitions in our
lives. Whether transitioning with a new career, moving, divorce,
or loss, this three-part class will discuss various tools that help
with the process of moving forward, managing the changes, and
welcoming a new beginning with the next chapters of your lives.

Social networking has become the new “playground” for tweens
and teens, and who can blame them for being drawn to a place
where you can be anyone you want, meet people from around the
world, share pictures and experiences, build or join a community
or become an instant celebrity? Children have access to people,
ideas and influences now more than ever, and in order to keep
them safe from those with less than good intentions, we must
teach them how to develop their critical thinking and problem
solving skills while they navigate over forty (and growing) social
networking sites that are just a click away! In the Kidproof Social
Netiquette workshop, students learn to develop and apply proper
social etiquette, good citizenship and critical thinking skills to
meeting people, sharing information and socializing through the
internet.

INTERESTED IN TEACHING A COURSE?
Learn the art of Kempo Karate. This six-week program offers
beginner and advanced levels. The beginner level teaches
age-appropriate self-defense techniques; the advanced level is
for students who have previously taken Karate and focuses on
more difficult age-appropriate self-defense techniques. Both
levels teach important life skills, such as confidence, selfcontrol, and patience. The biggest benefit to karate is that it is an
individual sport in which each student works at his or her own
pace. The last class will include a test during which the students
will demonstrate the skills they have learned during the program.
At the conclusion of the test, the students will earn their rank,
which, depending on their level, will be either a stripe or a belt.

For more

to craft at least three different projects each week. Old play clothes
are recommended for those who attend.
Our dance program is a fun introduction to the basics of dance.
The primary goal is to foster a love of music, movement and
dance. A variety of basic steps that all young dancers can master
are covered. Children gain flexibility and muscle strength, which
helps with their motor skills. They also receive the benefits of
social interaction with other children in the class.
