ON THE TRACTOR SEAT Volume 24, Issue 09 SEPTEMBER 2013 THE PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Hi everyone…. The Antelope Valley Fair has come and gone for 2013. GOOD JOB and another GREAT FAIR. Thanks to all those that participated in setting up, tearing down, coming out in the heat to run your equipment and just showing up. It’s you that made this event a great show. Don’t put those Tractors and Engines away yet. We still have a few more times to show them off this year. Saturday, September 21st we have the Aqua Dulce County Parade that is always fun. Check with club member Ron Zega, who lives in Aqua Dulce for more details, such as starting time & staging area. Ron Zega seems to always get this event together. Coming up October 5th & 6th is the “Mojave River Trails” event in Helendale. A chance to camp out next to your engines or tractors and show them off. Club Member Art Thomas usually leads the tractor’s in the tractor parade, which we have several of them each day. A fun event for all…. See details in Tractor Seat. See you at the next meeting on September 14th. You’re Club President, Ron Hanson 1 RUSTY RELICS BUSINESS MEETING LAST HELD AUGUST 10, 2013 The meeting was called to order at 2:05 PM. Flag salute was led by Club President, Ron Hanson. OFFICERS REPORT: PRESIDENT: Ron Hanson welcomed everyone (guys, gals & kids) to the meeting. Thanked everyone for cleaning the club trailer, gristmill, Fairbanks, ect…. Said it would be a busy month. Thanked everyone in advance, for all the hard work that has to be done at the fair. Have a nice and safe 2013 Fair. VICE PRESIDENT: Steve Sturdevant spoke about the T-shirts, being here now. He spoke about the costs going up due to the cost of cotton going up. Steve said, the company will put on club logo for $5, if you bring in your own shirt. SECRETARY: Cheryle Stacy had no report. TREASURER: Linda Baker gave a report of beginning balance of $xxxx.xx. Deposits of $30. Checks paid out of $821.57. Ending balance of $xxxx.xx. MEMBERSHIP CHAIRMAN: Jess Baker said we had 5 new members since last month. SHOW DIRECTOR: Dan Morgan welcomed everyone for showing up and helping with the scheduled work party. He thanked Ron Meyer for the great job of cleaning the large Fairbanks. SAFTY DIRECTOR: David Williams warned all to keep your fingers out of where they do not belong. Have first aid kits and fire extinguishers ready. David said to have a nice and safe Fair. PUBLISHER & EDITOR: Bob Hanson asked Jess Baker for a copy of new member’s names & addresses. 2 LIBRARIAN: Scott Wachlin said he has been busy working. Said he would update the web site either tonight or the next day. There have been 539 hits this month and a total amount of hits, of 33,855 since 2009. Scott, stated that David Ford had paid Our Domain Name, till 2016. OLD BUSINESS: We had no old business to discuss. NEW BUSINESS: Steve Sturdevant made a motion to raise the cost of T-shirts. Small to XL $16. And 2XL – 3XL will be $18. David Williams second the motion. All agreed, motion passed. We spoke about starting to bringing in exhibits to the fair on Wednesday Aug. 14th & Thur. the 15th. Ron said there would be a fork lift there, if needed. Don Nave made a motion to give Paul Ogden a club membership for moving our large Fairbanks engine to different events. (Paul does not want to be paid). Dan Morgan second the motion, motion passed. Linda Baker stated that everything has been sent into Sandy at the Chamber of Commerce, for the Parade. Bill Forbes made a motion to close the meeting, JR seconded the motion. Meeting closed at 2:40 PM. There were 25 members present. Minutes were prepared by Secretary Cheryle Stacy. A special thanks from Sec. Cheryle to Nickie (George Forbes Girlfriend) for helping me sort and fold all of the clubs T-shirts, this morning. This is a “Club Event” Set-up starts on Friday AM, Oct. 4th. Free camping is permitted on green grass and behind your display. Food & Beverages available on site or in town. Event starts, 10 AM – 6 PM Saturday Oct. 5th And 9 AM – 5 PM Sunday Oct. 6th Tractor Parades, Engine Fire-up’s, Entertainment by Nashville Recording artist Duke Michaels and much much more……… Parking at the main gate is $4. a day. Come early, RR Exhibitors use exhibitors gate Helendale is located 68 miles east from our club house, a short 1 ½ hour drive. Maps will be available at the next club meeting. In Palmdale, Ca. 93550 From the 14 freeway, go west on avenue N passed 20th Street West, to the first dirt field (lot B) on the right. “Look for Tractors” 4 The Antelope Valley Fair ran from August 16th to August 25th and did we have fun. Enjoy the pictures from the Fair. Carl Ross had a nice display of engines. A 1909 5 HP Stickney made in Saint Paul, Minn. A 1915 Foos Junior 2 ½ HP made in Spring Field, Ohio. Emerson Brandingham 1 ½ HP manufactured 1915 in Rockford, Ill. Jack MacGibbons (Junior) brought out four engines. Looks like a Stover? Then a Fairbanks Morse “Z” with an evaporator, a Fairchild pump jack with engine, and a 1920 Economy. Nice display. Don Chaffin brought out two engines on a trailer. A 1921 Fairbanks Morse 3 HP Model “Z”. 1945 McCormick Deering 1 ½ - 2 ½ HP type LB. 5 This 1939 orange Allis Chalmers Tractor belonged to former club member Dennis Groven, who passed away earlier this year. Kent Butler’s nice 1948 Ford 8N tractor out of Rosamond, Ca. Paul Ogden had two Farmall tractor’s at the fair. One is a 1951 Farmall Cub and the other is a 1948 Farmall “A”. Dan Morgan’s large 1948 Farmall “M” tractor out of Quartz Hill, Ca. 6 Brian McCormick had two Farmall tractors at the Fair, one is a Farmall super “A”, and the other is a Farmall Cub. Art & Rita Thomas nice Red 1948 Massey Harris pony tractor. Another nice display of John Deere tractors by Art & Rita Thomas. 1948 John Deere Model “M”. 1952 John Deer Model “AW”. Paul Ogden’s nice 1946 John Deere Model “H”. 7 Phil Shivers 1923 “New Admiral” hay press out of Canoga Park, Ca. The Forbes Family display of engines and lawnmower, with Zachary Forbes standing next to his John Deere, Model “E” engine. Norris & Diane Engle brought two tractors to the fair, one 1946 John Deere “GM” and one 1941 Farmall “M”, out of Rosamond. Betty, Larry & Cheryle Stacy are Displaying their 1956 10 HP Economy tractor. This was Carl’s favorite. 8 Betty, Larry & Cheryle Stacy’s 1939 Orange Allis Chalmers’s model “B” Racing tractor, out of Lancaster, Ca. In Memory of Red Dog Mansperger. Russ Nave brought a new 1927 Model “T” Ford car, out of Quartz Hill, Ca. Runs Great! Another fine 1914 model “T” Ford Hack, brought in by Russ Nave. Gary Luckeroth brought in his new 1929 Toro Master Tractor, Model “B” all the way from Rosamond, Ca. 9 The clubs Model “T” Ford Car. Jerry Wood brought out his large engines to the Fair. The engine on the right is a 1913 Jacobson 12 HP, 1919 Hercules 12 HP, a Desjardin 6-7 HP, and a 1946 1-2 HP LB International……Nice display. The clubs 1920-1925 John Deere hay press, belted to Steve Sturdevant’s 1952 Farmall “M” tractor. Paul Ogden brought out three engines. A 6 HP Stover type “K” on the left, a Gilson/Guelph engine, and New Holland engine. 10 And we have Crawlers!!! Brent Vanvoorst’s 1932 McCormick Deering, followed by his 1948 International T6. Scott Wachlin’s nice green 1946 Oliver HG-42 crawler, out of Mojave, Ca. Steve Sturdevant’s 1952 Ford 8N tractor, out of Lancaster, Ca. Ron Zega brought out his yellow 1953 Ferguson TO 30 tractor & his Grey 1952 Ferguson TO 30 tractor, Out of Agua Dulce, Ca. 11 And we have large crawlers!!!!!! Paul Ogden brought out the D4. Another fine display by Tom & Marylin Ross out of California City, Ca. A 1939 D-2 Crawler & display. David Pickus’s nice 16.5 HP, 1935 John Deere Model “B” tractor.
