ALL THE SPLENDOUR FESTIVAL HAIR & FASHION 78 This July, thousands of the nation’s hippest music lovers flocked to Byron Bay Parklands to the annual Splendour in the Grass music festival. In the Northern New South Wales greenery, spectators were treated to performances by some of the world’s biggest acts in the indie music scene, such as OutKast, Kelis, Foster the People and Interpol. Never ones to shy away from a festival or an excuse to escape the cold, The Journal ventured to Splendour to document this year’s festival of fashion and hair at the three-day event, and as we had hoped, we weren’t disappointed. At this year’s festival we welcomed the arrival of Flashcamp, the camping set-up for music-lovers too posh to sleep in the sticks (ie. us). Founded by Cameron Arnold, Flashcamp provides a luxurious camping experience complete with hot showers, cotton sheets, solar panels for charging your technology, massages, an organic bakery and café, housekeeping, and (drumroll, please) blowdries! Welcome to glamping, and we feel like it was created just for you hairdressers. With a tent run by hair stylist Samantha Middleton, she got to washing and styling the hair of countless Splendour-goers, with products provided by Uppercut Deluxe and Alfaparf. The powder room was open 24/7 so glampers could use the facilities to DIY their look ready for hitting the festival, and Samantha’s professional services were available (and fully booked) from 9am2pm each day. Unsurprisingly, Flashcamp was such a success that Splendour have already lined it up for next year’s event, and spectators at Falls Festival will get to reap the rewards at Christmas time this year. Now we can use the phrase ‘happy camper’ and actually mean it! 79 P H OTO G R A P H Y B Y T I M DA R I N F O R M O R E I N F O R M AT I O N V I S I T W W W. F L A S H C A M P. C O M .
