A Message from
Leadership
The Adanta Group Community Mental Health Center provided a variety of services to
over 9,000 persons living in the Lake Cumberland community of Kentucky in FY2012.
Though the various programs, the agency is a resource for both persons seeking services
and as a community partner. As a resource, persons who were at risk of being homeless
or homeless were provided shelter and assistance towards permanent housing; adults
with severe mental illness and children with severe emotional disabilities received case
management services to maintain their community placement; adults and children with
developmental and intellectual disabilities received housing and case management services to maintain stability in their community placement, in addition to supported employment services.
Professional staff – psychiatrists, APRN, outpatient and school therapists, case managers,
support brokers, day training specialists, prevention specialists, rape crisis advocates,
supported employment specialists, group home staff, family home providers, early childhood intervention specialists, and many others – focus daily on improving the lives of
others through quality service delivery. Staff training continues to be a focus of the agency to ensure staff learn and employ techniques that have been proven to be successful in
helping people reach their goals of health, safety, and wellness.
November 2011 began Medicaid managed care in Kentucky for the first time in its history.
Numerous agency resources were redirected and focused on preparation for billing, electronic resources, training staff, and contracting with the various managed care organizations in the state.
Without caring and dedicated staff, none of the preparation for managed care or daily service delivery would be possible. Every day they work together to assist clients needing
help with overcoming challenges and barriers to community living.
On behalf of The Adanta Group’s Board of Directors and I, please accept our appreciation
for our Staff and Clients, Community Membership and Leaders, and State and Local Partners for your continued dedication, commitment, and support in helping Adanta to serve
others. Enhancing the Lives of Others...we stand by our Purpose.

agency’s financial statements, including
the Statement of Financial Position, Statements of Activities and Cash Flows, and
general financial operations present fairly,
in all material respects, the financial position of the Lake Cumberland Regional
Mental Health - Mental Retardation
Board, Inc., dba The Adanta Group, as of
June 30, 2012. The changes in Adanta’s
net assets and cash flows for the year ending 2012 are in conformity with accounting
principles generally accepted in the United
States of America.
The report indicates the agency has strong
financial controls in place to ensure fiscal
responsibility of agency resources.
5
Reasons We
Serve
On a national level:

One in four adults - approximately 57.7 million Americans - experience a mental
health disorder in a given year.

One in 17 adults live with a serious mental health disorder such as schizophrenia, major depression or bipolar disorder.

About one in 10 children live with a serious mental or emotional disorder.

One half of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14, three-quarters by age
24. Despite effective treatments, there are long delays—sometimes decades– between
the first onset of symptoms and when people seek and receive treatment.

Individuals living with serious mental illness face an increased risk of having chronic
medical conditions. Adults living with serious mental illness die 25 years earlier than
other Americans, largely due to treatable medical conditions.

Over 50 percent of students with a mental disorder age 14 and older drop our of high
school - the highest dropout rate of any disability group.

24% of state prisoners and 21% of local jail prisoners have a recent history of a mental
health disorder.

In the United States, the annual economic, indirect cost of mental illness is estimated
to be $79 billion. Most of that amount - approximately $63 billion - reflects the loss of
productivity as a result of illness.

An estimated 5.2 million adults have co-occurring mental health / addiction disorders.
On a local level:
The Adanta Group serves adults and children suffering from psychiatric disorders
through psychiatric and medication management services, outpatient mental health and
substance abuse services, and case management and supported employment services.
Adults and adolescents convicted of driving under the influence attend education and
treatment services. Adults and children who have experienced a sexual assault can readily
access advocacy services and counseling. Persons in crisis, whether in the community or
in jail, access immediate services through various programs and a 24/7 agency-run crisis
hotline. Staff strive to make a positive difference in the lives of the people they service
and the communities where they work.

Carl: A Supported Employment
Success
Carl was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease approximately 12
years ago. He worked as a fork lift driver for most of his life, is
married, and has children. He lived in Texas when he was diagnosed, before relocating to Campbellsville and finally Columbia,
KY. Since moving to Kentucky, Carl has also been affected by
diabetes and experienced other obstacles that were preventing
him from finding employment.
Carl at work
After several years of searching on his own, he signed up with
the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, who referred him
to Adanta. The Adanta Supported Employment Staff worked
together as a team to find employment for Carl, and within six
months of moving to Columbia, he became employed at a family owned restaurant. He began working only a few hours each
week and gradually increased to working over 30 hours per
week. He has developed friendships, a great working relationship with his co-workers, and is an active part of his community.
In the last few years, Adanta’s Supported Employment Program has grown from serving
20 individuals to 63. Three Supported Employment Specialists serve the 10 Lake Cumberland region. Currently, there are 27 individuals working in the community through the
program. Individuals have been placed in a wide range of careers such as:

Veterinarian Assistant

Cafeteria Aide

Food Service

Car Detailing

Landscaping
The Supported Employment Program provides assistance to individuals in locating and
securing meaningful employment and competitive wages within the community. Supported Employment Staff continue to work with individuals once placed to promote long-term
success. The program serves individuals with a wide range of mental / developmental /
intellectual / physical challenges.
