Meet
Jeff Hulett & his wife, Stephanie
our new Minister of Youth
I am excited God has called me to Parkview Baptist to serve as your Youth Minister. My
wife, Stephanie, and I have been married for four years. I was raised in Baton Rouge with
my older brother, James, and younger brother, Jason. Stephanie and I spent seven wonderful years sitting in the student section of Tiger Stadium; four as we earned our Bachelor’s
Degrees and three more while she attended law school. While at LSU, I served in several
internship, part-time and volunteer youth ministry positions. I am currently attending
New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, earning a Masters of Divinity in Christian
Education with a specialization in Youth Ministry. I have a burden to see today’s youth
come to faith in Christ. My basic ministry philosophy revolves around discipleship.
Through discipleship, youth learn to become disciple-makers and reach their friends for
Christ. As youth grow in their faith, the youth group will grow stronger spiritually and numerically. I also hope to prepare youth for life beyond high school so their faith in Christ
continues when they go off to college. Thank you for the opportunity to minister to the
students at Parkview Baptist Church. I look forward to what God is going to do in the
lives of our youth and our church.

Parkview Youth Ministry
S
ummer is one of the most exciting times in youth ministry. As you are aware,
the youth have already attended Student Life Mission Camp.
It was an
amazing experience that left us all changed and more devoted to our faith in
Christ. The rest of the summer will be filled with events such as movie nights, a lock-in, game
nights, and after church fellowships, to name a few. Many of these events will be geared to
provide opportunities for students to invite their friends to become involved in what is happening at Parkview Baptist. In addition, youth have two opportunities for spiritual growth and development. On Wednesday nights we focus on teaching the fundamentals of the Christian faith.
In Sunday School, bible study is focused on studying books of the Bible in their entirety. This
provides students with a way to see how they should be studying God’s Word in their daily
personal Bible study. In the near future youth will have a third opportunity for spiritual growth
that will be a more intense time of discipleship in which students who truly hunger for God’s
Word can be fed. I know that God has amazing things in store for this group of students.
Please pray that God will continue to reveal himself to them and that their faith would be
strengthened each and every day.

raise the Lord! How I praise the Lord for how He worked
during our first “Summer Praise Concert” consisting of the
choirs from Parkway Presbyterian Church, St. Matthews United
Methodist Church and Parkview Baptist! I am grateful for to
Chris Burton, the choir director of Parkway Presbyterian and
Skyler Stroup, director the choir at St. Matthews United Methodist and their choirs for joining together with us for an inspirational evening of worship and praise!
I am especially grateful to our choir for all their hard work,
going over and beyond our normal schedule to participate in the
program. The 46 members of the combined choirs’ presentation of “The Majesty and Glory of Your Name,” and “The Lord
Bless You and Keep You” was truly a blessing for all of the 190
in the sanctuary making for an unforgettable time together.
Praise the Lord!
School is out and vacation time is coming for many, so let’s
not forget and take a vacation from all that God has called us to
do.
See You Sunday!

The Light Of Day
We welcome Jeff Hulett to our church staff as Minister
of Youth. He is a student at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Stephanie, come
from the Baton Rogue area. He has served in several churches
and come highly recommended by those who know about his devotion to ministering and reaching youth for Christ. Welcome Jeff
and Stephanie!
Last week I taught Vacation Bible School for adults. We met in
the mornings and studied the relationship of Jesus had with those
he met in his journeys through Palestine. We also studied the
book of Philippians. Everyone had a great time studying, sharing
insights, and enjoying fellowship together as a church family.
Our youth and children have just returned from summer camp.
We enjoyed listening to the report Sunday night about how God
blessed our children at camp and we look forward to learning
about youth camp soon. We are excited about what God is doing
in the lives of our children and youth. We were especially excited
Sunday morning when Austin Wiedow shared with us that he had
accepted Christ at youth camp.
June also has been a busy month for Parkview missions events.
Bernell and Julia Vercher plus Francis Herrin helped build a
church building in Oregon. Kathy Steele equipped church leaders in Cuba. Also, Nicole Maillet is continuing her ministry in Asia.
God is using Parkview not only to reach Metairie for Christ. He is
leading us to reach the world! Praise God!
Pastor Bill Day
"You were taught to be made NEW in your hearts, to become a NEW person. That NEW person is made to be like God—made to be
truly good and holy." (Ephesians 4:23-24) We have just returned from Tall Timbers Church Camp where we focused on being
made new in Christ. The children really enjoyed their time at camp and definitely heard from God. Many thanks go out to Jonathan
and Sonia Sossamon who co-chaperoned camp with me this year since Melody was out watching Sammy. We are all so appreciative of our Parkview family for making camp a reality for our children. Your prayers and financial support really make a difference!
Another area where Parkview Kids could really use your prayers is in growth for this summer. On Wednesday nights, we are
providing a high-energy, action packed look at what it really means to follow Jesus, and on Sunday mornings we are looking to find
new and exciting ways to apply God's word to our lives. We are also starting a new Sunday night program called SNAP (Sunday
Night At Parkview) where we are giving the kids an opportunity to take leadership roles by leading lessons, acting in dramas, and
other creative ways to give them an opportunity to share Jesus with those around them. We are also using Sunday nights as an
opportunity to generate excitement about VBS by using some of the VBS music, games and crafts to give the kids a taste of what is
in store for them July 17-22.
In addition to your prayers for all the activities that are going on this summer, we could also use your support as we encourage our
neighbors and friends to join us for VBS this summer. We are printing up yard signs for you to take and place in your front yard as
advertisement for our VBS. Because many in our community do not know what VBS is, we are advertising it as a one-week, free
evening Christian camp. We hope that this will communicate better with those around us who have never heard of VBS.
Parkview Kids appreciates your constant support of our ministry and your encouragement as we strive to "Make our world more
like heaven by learning about God, loving all people and living like Jesus."

What if …
What if…? God couldn’t take the time to Bless us today
Because we could not take the time to thank Him
yesterday...
What if …? God decided to stop leading us tomorrow
Because we didn’t follow Him today…
What if …? God didn’t walk with us today
Because we failed to recognized it as His day…
What if …? We never saw another flower bloom
Because we grumbled when God sent the rain…
What if …? God stopped loving and caring for us
Because we failed to love and care for others…
What if …? God took away the Bible tomorrow
Because we would not read it today...
What if …? God didn’t send His only begotten Son
Because He wanted to pay the price of sin…
What if …? The door to the church was closed
Because we did not open the door to our hearts…
What if …? God would not hear us today
Because we would not listen to Him yesterday…
What if …? God answered our prayers
The way we answer his call to service…
What if …? God met our needs the way we give
Him our lives.

A
t many of our meetings, we have interesting speakers. At the
May meeting, Jacqueline Chadwick of the Red Cross, spoke
to us on Hurricane Preparedness and stressed how important it is
to be prepared. Katrina taught us this is very true.
Mike Oliver told us all about the Patriot Guard Riders at a meeting. This is a fascinating group of motorcycle riders who ride together to honor fallen soldiers at funeral services at the families'
request. They also welcome troops home and assist our Wounded
Warriors and Veterans in need. Their motto is "Standing for those
who stood for us."
We also learned about "Operation Smile" from Diane Blanchard,
a Speech Therapist. This is a group of doctors, nurses and volunteers who go all over the world correcting cleft palates and cleft
lips. There are hundreds needing these operations, and they have
to choose the ones who need it most. They are volunteers who
work tirelessly to do as many operations as they can.
At another meeting we learned all about the change Angola has
made in the last few years. There has been a real change. Many
of the prisoners (some serving life sentences) have accepted
Christ. Angola is a different place today. This is because of Christian groups that witness to these men.
We also continue to go to interesting places. Some of these are
coming up in the next few months. In August, we will be going to
the New Orleans Museum to see the display of Madeline Albright's
collection of pins. If you have not tried us, I think you will get a real
blessing joining with us.

O
ur summer program has gotten off to a great start. The teachers
are doing a wonderful job with the children. I expect this to be one
of the best summer programs we have ever had. We have several new
teachers with new and fresh ideas and much excitement to share with the
children.
We have many plans for this summer including water play, picnics, ice
cream parties, crafts and much more.
We are excited about participating in Vacation Bible School the week of
July 17 - 22. We always look forward to teaching the children about
God’s love for them.
We are in need of a music teacher, a Spanish teacher and possibly a
sign language teacher. If you know someone who might be interested in
any of these jobs, please have them contact me at the Day Care. The
music and sign language classes should be one to two times a week and
the Spanish class should three to five times a week at least for our threes
and four year old children. We would like for the children to not only learn
to say Spanish words but to learn to sing songs in Spanish.
Continue to pray for the teachers that work in the Day Care Program
that they will seek God’s will in everything they do especially concerning
the children. Pray that they will be a positive influence on the children
they care for and that the children can see Jesus in them. God is so
good.
Your servant in Christ,
Bea McElroy
