I work in a profession where I am one of few Christians in my department. Most are either agnostic or atheist, and when you work in these conditions, “the talk” inevitably comes up. I also work in an environment where one’s intellect dictates his or her professionalism. That being said, you are constantly trying to be the smartest guy in the room. Something interesting happened to me the other day. I was asked, “Don’t you feel like we have evolved past God?” and “Can you even prove why you believe in God without the Bible?” At first, I was insulted. I immediately thought to myself, “Why is it that in an establishment where free thought is supposed to be promoted, I’m the moron for having faith?” After I took a breath, I asked my co-worker if I could give him all of the reasons why I believe in a “higher power,” without the use of the Bible. And so, it went something like this: WORSHIP SCHEDULE SUNDAY, MAY 22, 2016 8:15 AM PRAYING FOR THE CHURCH - ROOM 128 9:00 AM LIBRARY OPEN UNTIL 10:40AM 9:30 AM SUNDAY SCHOOL (ENG & LAO) 10:45 AM MORNING WORSHIP (ENG & LAO) 12:30PM EBENEZER KAREN BAPTIST CHURCH - ROOM 132 4:00 PM PASTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE - ROOM 128 5:30 PM L.I.F.T. Update Let’s take our creation--no matter what science has to say on the subject, there is an agreement on a chain of events, and the farther and farther that we go back, we start to see the beginning of time on earth spanning for millions and millions of years. Now, hold that thought. Let’s take a look at our solar system. We live on a floating rock in space that is just close enough to a star that we don’t freeze to death and yet far enough away that we aren’t burned alive. Earth is equipped with: magnetic fields that deflect solar flares that could otherwise kill us; an o-zone layer that protects us from deadly ultraviolet radiation; an asteroid belt that keeps other asteroids from hitting our atmosphere (as well as the gravitational pull of Jupiter and Saturn); and a moon that keeps the tides from flooding our planet. After all of that our planet-created life-forms question their own existence? Don’t you realize that the chances of all of that happening again anywhere in our galaxy are nearly impossible?! I know that I said I would leave the Bible out of this, but here are just a few of the instances where the Bible proved something right, before human thought--earth floating through space, the concept of atoms, washing our hands, isolating human waste, oceans containing springs, mountains on the ocean floor, blood being the source of life, our bodies are made of elements found in the dirt; earth is a sphere; light can be divided; ocean currents May 18, 2016 Logan’s article continued... follow paths; stars are innumerable—just to name a few. The fact is that my scientific belief revolves around the concept of intelligent design; my FAITH is that God is the one whose intelligence created us.
