A void at the loss of Marian Ellenburg who was a loving wife, mother, and mother-in-law, will always be with us but our comfort is that she is with her heavenly father and no longer suffers. Our church family has been and remains a blessing to each of us and your kindness will forever be remembered. May God bless each of you and your families always, Jim, Dale, and Mary Ellen Ellenburg Thank you, First Baptist Church, for all of your expressions of kindness to my family after the death of my Mother. Your many cards, gifts to the church in memory of “Mama” and verbal expressions meant a great deal to us. First Baptist is a very caring church and I am so blessed to be a part of this loving church family. Love you all, Ramona Hallman Randall and Dorothy Jeanne McClain and family in the loss of their son-in-law, Jimmy Cox. From one Minister to Another… Our Members in Action Thank you for all the positive responses concerning last Sunday’s worship. It seems that anytime we venture into these very practical aspects of life—we’re looking at “Family Matters” right now—there’s lots of interest. I suppose it’s easier to BELIEVE the Gospel of Jesus Christ than it is to actually LIVE it—practically speaking! One of our faithful members sent me an e-mail thanking me for the service and observing how often Christians get sidetracked when it comes to “the two Ms,” as he put it: Marriage and Money. We probably wouldn’t need to think long to add to this list, but he certainly identified two very important arenas of life in which lots of us tend to struggle. Actually, I think all of the subjects we’re addressing during this focus on important relationships challenge us at times—otherwise, “well-heeled single people” could just drift through life with ease (no “Ms” to worry about)! It’s the challenges, though, that help us grow. They also prompt us to depend more on the Lord and less on ourselves, recognizing that while we’re inadequate to handle all the challenges, He’s abundantly able to get us through them. On the other side, we discover that our lives and our faith have been strengthened in the process. Of course, we have to live a while and go through a few valleys to begin to really see how this works. By the way, I’m not overlooking that second “M” mentioned in the e-mail. Lord willing, on June 5, we’ll take a look at “Money Matters.” Again, there are some wonderfully practical guidelines in the Bible for dealing with money wisely. So many stresses in life could be avoided by simply putting this Divine guidance into practice. Actually, the “two Ms” are closely related. Marriage problems often bubble to the surface when the couple finds themselves in financial hot water. It doesn’t have to be this way, though. There’s a much better way to live than having to always be concerned about money; and for the vast majority of us, it really should not be so hard. Most of us have ample financial means, but poor management skills. We can and should do better, and worship on June 5 is designed to help. This could be a wonderful time to invite a friend to join you for worship. Or maybe you know of someone you should share the “marriage” CD from last Sunday with—they’re available at the entrance to the church or by calling the office. Let your light shine! The focus this week is on “Togetherness.” It will be somewhat of a continuation of last week’s marriage emphasis, only more broadly applied to all other human relationships as well. I look forward to worshipping with you each week. It’s always good to be in the Lord’s house among His people. I count it a privilege to share a Biblical perspective on our lives and the various challenges we face and decisions we make. And, of course, it’s always good to hear that something the Lord has placed on my heart to say has in some way connected with your life. Often He uses your words and witness to speak to me as well. So, thanks—and see you Sunday! Tuesday Choir rehearsals continue through Wednesday, June 22nd. The Summer Choir begins Sunday, July 3rd. We will meet at 9:00am each Sunday before the worship service to rehearse. No experience is needed! WHO IS INVITED?
