Fido Fixers is On the Road!
In December 2014, the Humane Society of South Carolina received a very
exciting donation, thanks to a volunteer group known as “Fido Fixers.”
Through the generosity of Fido Fixers, The Humane Society was the
recipient of a Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic. The vehicle, a 26-foot, specially
outfitted truck, will travel to rural areas in the Midlands, delivering low cost
spay/neuter surgeries to these outlying areas.

These three advocates took their concerns and turned them into action!
Their vision was to try and end the problem of animal abuse, neglect and
overpopulation by partnering with local community organizations to use
mobile spay/neuter clinics in rural communities and set up low-cost clinics
that could reach these underserved areas.
The Humane Society is fortunate to have received one of only three Fido
Fixers clinics in the nation. This mobile clinic is making low-cost spay/
neuter surgeries a reality in communities throughout the Midlands. Fido
Fixers began surgeries in January, and is reaching rural communities
in Calhoun, Orangeburg, Sumter, Lexington and Richland counties. We
are looking to expand our reach even further! The mobile clinic is able
to provide surgeries, immunizations, and other services to patients in
convenient locations, making spay/neuter services accessible to more and
more people.

That’s just $10 to microchip your pet.
Fido Fixers was founded in Greenwich, CT, by Susan Maounis, Lisa Wysocki,
and Suzanne Steinberg. These three dedicated women are extremely active
members of animal rescue efforts. They were deeply concerned about the
endless number of unwanted pets surrendered to shelters, especially in the
Southeastern United States. They saw there were many groups that work
diligently to rescue these animals, but knew that, despite these tireless
efforts, many animals were still left without forever homes and ultimately
euthanized.
Your Humane Society is on Facebook and Twitter.

The Humane Society held a ribbon cutting ceremony to unveil the Fido
Fixer Spay/Neuter Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic. The ceremony was held at
Jake’s of on March 12. The community joined us to celebrate this exciting
new addition. It was a wonderful evening for our two legged and four
legged friends.
Our deepest thanks go out to Susan, Lisa and Suzanne for making mobile
spay/neuter a reality in South Carolina. With their help, The Humane
Society can make an even bigger difference in reducing the population of
unwanted animals.
Employee Spotlight
Stormy Snyder:
Stormy is the newest addition to
the Humane Society team. She
has been a veterinary technician
for 8 years and is very active in
the animal rescue community.
She joined the Humane Society in
January and is doing a wonderful
job both in surgery as well as
working with customers during
check in/check out. We are excited
to have Stormy with us.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: M
y favorite part is working with my long time friends
and now coworkers at the Humane Society! I’ve been a
client there since 2006, so everyone here is like family!
Q: W
hat do you wish people knew about the
Humane Society?
A: I wish more people knew about the feral cat program.
I believe the more feral cats we spay and neuter, the
fewer unwanted litters and the healthier the pet
population. We can save thousands of animals’ lives
by simply spaying and neutering. I am a huge spay/
neuter advocate having helped many ferals get altered
using the Humane Society’s TNR program!
Q: D
o you have any pets? If so, what are they and what
are their names?
A: I have several feral cats I care for all of which were
spayed or neutered at the Humane Society. Their
names are Sammy, Basil, Cady, Houdina, Snowy, Fox
and Patches. I also have pet cats named Stinkerbell,
Curly, Dexter, Gargoyle and Bossy. I have four Great
Danes named Doobie, Diamond, Rosie and Sascha;
a Catahoula Leopard dog named Melah; a miniature
dachshund named Briggs and a mixed breed named
Suka – all rescues.

The 6th Annual See Spot Run will take place on Saturday,
May 16th. In addition to our 5K Run/Walk, we are
excited to be adding a 12K Run for 2015! Pet owners are
encouraged to bring their pets on leashes with them to
the 5K. “Many pet owners and lovers, runners, walkers and
Humane Society supporters look forward to this event
each year,” said Wayne Brennessel, executive director of
The Humane Society. “The funds raised from this event
allow the Humane Society to continue to offer low-cost
spay and neuter surgeries that are affordable for all pet
owners. These funds also support our animal cruelty
investigations, making a safer environment for animals all
over South Carolina. It’s a fun day for a wonderful cause.”
