Director of Golf
Peter Gyscek
Assistant Coach
Pete Gyscek enters his second season in the collegiate coaching ranks as the assistant coach for both the men’s
and women’s programs at William and Mary. A long-time Williamsburg resident, Gyscek is the owner of the
Dynamic Golf Studio, a Williamsburg-area teaching center, and the skills he employs will no doubt be put to great
use by the Tribe golfers.
Gyscek is a Class “A” member of the Professional Golfers Association of America, and has competed as a
professional on several mini-tours and in the Mid-Atlantic PGA. He is also an associate member of the National
Golf Coaches Association, and is a Certified Golf Instructor as well as being a Master Clubfitter and Equipment
Specialist.
Gyscek graduated from Niagara University in 1985 with a bachelor’s in business management. A four-year letterwinner as a member of the
varsity golf team, he was also captain for three years. He lives in Williamsburg with his wife, Michele, and six-year old son, Noah.
2006-07 William and Mary Golf
Jay Albaugh is in his fourth year as director of golf and leads both the men’s and women’s programs for the
Tribe. His inaugural campaign saw 2004 graduate Ann Schnell earn first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association
and CAA Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, and 2005 graduate Gary Barton earn second-team
All-CAA and all-state honors. His golfers achieved even greater success in his second year. Barton and classmate
Tim Pemberton were both named to the all-region team, with Pemberton also earning first-team All-CAA and
second-team all-state honors as he set the school record for lowest career average in Tribe history. Barton garnered
second-team all-conference and first-team all-state acclaim after leading the team throughout the year, and capped
his career by winning the Cavalier Classic in a one-hole playoff, his second individual medal in four years. As a team, the men captured two
tournament titles, an outstanding accomplishment for a squad that was composed primarily of underclassmen. In March the Tribe defended
its home course, winning a three-team playoff to triumph in the W&M Invitational. In April, the College followed Barton’s charge to win
the Cavalier Classic by a stroke over a 12-team field that included many Atlantic Coast Conference and CAA rivals. In recognition of his accomplishments, Albaugh was named the State Golf Coach of the Year by the Virginia Golf Coaches Association.
In 2005-06, Albaugh mentored the women’s golf team to a program renaissance. In the fall, the squad won its first team championship
since 1992 at its own Tribe Classic, setting a school record for lowest team score in a round with 299 strokes. Senior Sayde Murray captured her
first individual medal, and the program’s first since 2001, winning the Tribe Classic on the third playoff hole.
In the spring, Murray continued her strong play to lead the team and finish fifth at the CAA Championships,
and then-sophomore Erika Oldenkamp tied school records for the lowest round (70) and 36-hole score (147)
at the Bonnie Hoover Invitational, and was named second-team All-CAA.
The men’s team had its share of hardships to start the 2005-06 season, but the emergence of a trio of players gave the program a renewed vitality at the end of the spring and for the upcoming year. Then-junior Matt
Brantingham improved his career average from ninth to sixth in the school charts, and qualified for the U.S.
Amateur Public Links in the summer. A pair of freshmen were the kings of the course, as Doug Hurson led
the team in six of 10 tournaments and Brent Paladino led in five of the 10. Hurson had a season-average of
75.04, second on the team and third-best for any freshman in school history. Paladino led the team with an
average of 74.64, second-best for a freshman, and tied for the lowest score at the W&M Invitational with 69.
In the summer, he qualified for both the U.S. Amateur and the Amateur Public Links, advancing to the third
round of match play at the APL.
Albaugh came to the Tribe from Eastern Illinois University where he served as the head coach for both the
men’s and women’s golf teams. In his five years at Eastern Illinois, Albaugh saw both squads achieve their best
finishes at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships, including a runner-up result for the women in 2003.
Overall, Albaugh coached his teams to four wins during his tenure, which included the women’s first win as a
program. He also led each team to its lowest stroke average in history.
Previously, Albaugh served three years as the head golf coach at Mount St. Mary’s College. While there, he oversaw the creation of the
women’s golf program and also led the men’s team to its best conference finish (fourth). Albaugh, a 1996 graduate of Mount St. Mary’s, was a
four-year letterwinner in golf and was named first team All-Northeast Conference his junior and senior seasons. The Mountaineers’ number
one golfer for three years, Albaugh won the American University Invitational in 1994 and was a two-time selection to the NEC Scholar-Athlete
team.
Albaugh has also served as an assistant golf professional for three years and is a member of the Golf Coaches Association of America and the
National Golf Coaches Association. Albaugh holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Mount St. Mary’s and a master’s degree
in athletic administration from Eastern Illinois. A member of the NCAA Men’s Golf Mid-Atlantic Regional Advisory Committee, Albaugh
was married in the summer of 2006 to Leighann Rastede.

Men’s Outlook
2006-07 William and Mary Golf
Overview
2005-06 was a trying season for the William and Mary men’s golf
team, as it struggled to find its identity after losing three of the team’s
top four golfers from the year before (two to graduation, one to a redshirt). After some early problems, however, the Tribe found its stride at
mid-season and closed the spring strongly. This year, returning nearly
everyone and adding a pair of talented recruits, Director of Golf Jay
Albaugh looks to take the team back to the NCAA Regional and earn
a spot in the national championships for the first time in school history.
Seniors
Matt Brantingham stepped into the role of team leader last season, competing at every tournament and consistently finishing in the
top three for the team. He lowered his career average to 76.46, sixth
all-time at the College, and could be in line for his best season yet
after making the Amateur Public Links Championship this summer.
The purest ball striker on the team, Brantingham will look to provide
mental leadership for the team, while contesting for the lead in every
tournament.
Ryan Price is a remarkably consistent player who will aim to set
a career-best for season average in his final year. He hopes to return
to the form he set two years ago as a sophomore, when he established
a reputation as one of the most unflappable golfers on the team. This
season he will be counted on to post consistent scores in the low-tomid 70s, and put the team in contention to win trophies.
Hunter Watts returns this season after spending last year studying
in Australia. As a sophomore, he
was one of only three golfers to compete in every tournament, and was
runner-up at the Georgetown Hoya
Invitational. He will have another
shot at the title this season, and will
be counted on to push the younger
players to lower scores with his competitive spirit.
Juniors
Jimmy Femino joined the team
at the semester break after transferring from Clemson, and immediateSenior Hunter Watts
ly made his impact felt by qualifying
for the final two tournaments of the spring. He was the first-round
leader for the Tribe at both events, and will aim this season at consistently producing low rounds.
Jonas Miller is one of the hardest workers on the team, and used
that to his advantage last season to drop his stroke average almost a
full point from his freshman year. An accurate and analytical player,
he will be counted on to continue that improvement this season and
move his scoring range from the mid-to-high 70s to the low-to-mid
70s.
Joel St. Laurent lowered his season average more than three
strokes between his freshman and sophomore years, posting a banner
year last year when he turned in 12 competitive rounds, all in the 70s.
In fact, he was the only player last year not to hit any rounds in the
80s, while playing in the last four events. He placed in the top 40 at
the CAA Championships, and will look to move into the top 20 while
challenging Brantingham and the sophomore class for the team lead at
each tournament.
Jay Sutton has a clean, easy swing that helps him score well when
he can see action on this deep and talented team. A consummate
closer, he hit 72-74 in the final two rounds at the Joe Agee Invitational
to jump almost 20 spots in the final standings. A goal for this season
will be to lower his first round scores into the range he usually closes
at, and in doing so put the team into contention for team medals
more often.
Sophomores
Doug Hurson led the Tribe
in six of 10 tournaments as a freshman, and ended the season ranked
second in stroke average. A strong
candidate for post-season honors,
he is one of the two or three most
complete players on the team. This
year he looks to improve his stroke
play and contend for more individual medals with the goal of ensuring
a berth at the NCAA Regional.
Brent Paladino returns for this
second season as the most complete Senior Ryan Price
player on the team. He led the Tribe
as a freshman with a 74.64 stroke average, the second-best for any
freshman in school history, and also held the team lead (alone or jointly) in five of 10 events. Over the summer, he made the third round of
match play at the Amateur Public Links Championship and qualified
for the U.S. Amateur. This year, he will once again be counted on to
lead the team along with Hurson, and to put himself in position for
all-conference accolades and a regional invitation.
Chris Ray will look to step up and make an impact this year after
being buried on the depth chart last season. A highly touted player
out of Central Virginia, he brings perhaps the most length of any
player, and has an enormous array of shots he can call on during the
course of a round. He figures to strongly contend for a place on the
travel team week-in and week-out.
Freshmen
Conor O’Brien was the Connecticut state champion and New
England High School champion as a senior at Simsbury High. Not a
flashy player on the course, he simply makes the shots that need to be
made and consistently posts low scores, with a career best round of 65.
An outstanding athlete, he was the goalie for Simsbury’s hockey team
as a junior and senior, anchoring the defense that produced a two-year
record of 40-4 and won two conference championships.
Andy Roach was a Washington Post All-Met honorable mention
selection in 2004. A passionate competitor with extensive experience
on the junior tours, he will help push the older players on the team to
excel. Roach enters W&M with tremendous upside and the potential
to surprise opponents who may underestimate his shot-making ability.

Women’s Outlook
Overview
Despite finishing sixth at the Colonial Athletic Association
Championships, William and Mary’s season last year could be counted as a resounding success. The team won the Tribe Classic in the fall,
its first tournament title since 1992, with a school record round of
299, and would challenge for the trophy in several other tournaments
en route to finishing with the second-best season average in school
history (318.67).
Replacing graduated captain Sayde Murray will be a tall order,
especially after a senior season in which she led the team in stroke
average with the fifth-best season in school history, earned the team’s
first individual medal since 2001 in the Tribe Classic, and was named
to the all-tournament team after finishing fifth at CAAs. However,
the prognosis is bright for Director of Golf Jay Albaugh’s fourth season, as he returns four of the top five and seven of the top eight golfers
from last year, and brings in three very talented freshmen.
Marissa Sprick had a breakout season in her sophomore year,
playing in all but one tournament and shooting in the 70s in almost
half of her rounds. Her major breakthrough came in the W&M Invitational, where she finished fifth to lead both Tribe teams in the event,
shooting a pair of career-low 76s. She went on to finish in the top 25
at the conference championship. Studying in Italy this fall, she will
return to the team in January and immediately challenge for a spot on
the travel team thanks to her ability to create shots off the tee.
Kara Siford also broke out in the W&M Invitational, shooting
81-80 to finish in the top 25. After playing in only two rounds as a
freshman, she was the number one alternate as a sophomore, posting
both the sixth-best average and the sixth-most rounds on the team
with 83.09 and 11, respectively. A consistent hitter with great fundamentals, she looks to gain experience in the fall and use that to solidify
a position on the travel squad when the spring season comes around.
Sophomores
Both members of the sophomore class entered the College with
strong credentials and backed them up with their play as freshmen.
Seung Lee was the Tribe’s top golfer in the first tournament of the
year, shooting three rounds in the 70’s for sixth place at the Lady Herd
Invitational, and would finish no worse than 24th in the spring while
competing in every tournament. She was third for the team at the
CAA Championships, shooting 251 on Pinehurst’s No. 6 course for
21st place.
Ellie Costello opened her career in a big way, shooting 76 as an
individual at the Tribe Classic. She would go on to challenge in qualifying week-in and week-out thanks to her heads-up play on the course,

Seniors
Melissa DePuy enters her final season looking to regain the form
of two years ago, when she lead the team in stroke average and finished 12th at the CAA Championships. Ranked as one of the top five
golfers in school history, she battled through injuries last season, competing in just two tournaments but closed with an 80 in the second
round of the W&M Invitational. Albaugh will be counting on her
veteran leadership to help the team through the fall and the freshmen
as they adjust to the college game.

Terry Driscoll
Director of Athletics
With an extensive resumé that includes four
years as a student-athlete, a professional playing
career and numerous jobs in the athletic business
world, Edward C. “Terry” Driscoll is entering his
11th year as the athletics director at the College
of William and Mary.
Driscoll’s tenure has seen a wealth of improvements across the board in the W&M athletics department, from new and refurbished facilities to increased fundraising for the Tribe. In
addition, the Tribe has reached all-time highs in
the annual Director’s Cup rankings that summarize excellence in all sports.
Upon the death of legendary Tribe athletics
director John Randolph, former W&M president Timothy J. Sullivan chose Driscoll to be
the new leader of the department, saying “Terry
brings outstanding management and leadership
skills to the position.”
Barbara Blosser
Senior Executive Associate AD
After serving 12 years as the College’s associate athletics director, Barbara Blosser was promoted to her current position of senior associate
athletic director in April of 2004. Blosser started her career at William and Mary as the head
Since Driscoll took over as athletics director,
he has overseen the construction of more than
$16 million in new facilities , including Plumeri
Park (baseball), Albert-Daly Field (soccer, lacrosse) and the Busch Courts (tennis). That figure will continue to increase significantly in the
future, as Driscoll announced plans last year to
build the $11 million Jimmye Laycock Football
Complex at Zable Stadium.
Driscoll has also increased the annual fundraising totals for non-capital projects from $1.36
million in 1995 to around $2.7 million currently.
He also has served on numerous conference and
NCAA committees, including a stint as president
of the Atlantic 10 Football Conference.
The Tribe has also had outstanding success
across the board since Driscoll came to Williamsburg. In 2002-03, W&M had a school-record 10
teams compete in the NCAA Tournament. Four
teams won conference titles, while six were in the
top 25 at the end of their respective seasons. One
of the department’s goals each year is to finish in
the top 100 in the annual Director’s Cup rankings, and that has happened in all but one of the
years that Driscoll has been the AD, with a high
ranking of 42 occurring in 1997. In addition,
W&M had captured 84 CAA Championships
coming into the 2006-07 school year, by far the
highest total among all conference schools.
Driscoll’s leadership skills were developed in
his collegiate years. As a student-athlete at Boston
College, Driscoll captained the basketball team
to the National Invitation Tournament Finals as
a senior, and was named the tournament MVP.
In addition to being named an All-American, his
success in the classroom with a major in biology
garnered him an Academic All-America honor.
After graduating from BC, he was the fourth
pick of the NBA Draft, selected by the Detroit
Pistons, just three picks after the Milwaukee
Bucks chose UCLA’s Lew Alcindor, later to be
known as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Driscoll chose
to play a year in Italy first, but then returned to
the U.S. to play for the Pistons, Washington Bullets and Milwaukee Bucks before going back to
Italy as a player and coach until 1980.
Driscoll then entered the corporate world
in 1980, working for Kazmaier Associates, Inc.,
an international sporting goods sales and sports
marketing firm. After Kazmaier purchased Bike
Athletic in 1986, KSG Inc. was formed with
the objective of becoming the first, and only,
national sales agency in the sporting goods industry. By 1987, Driscoll was president of the
company and had expanded the agency to all 50
states just two years later. In early 1990, Driscoll’s
contribution to a marketing research project for
the NCAA was the initial step moving him from
product marketing and sales to sports marketing and management. The result of the project
was a joint venture between Kazmaier Associates
and Host Communication - with Driscoll being
named managing director and chief operating officer of NCAA International.
In 1993, Driscoll diversified his experience
in the athletic world by working as the executive
director of the 1994 World Cup site in Boston.
In September of that year, Driscoll was again enlisted to launch a new business, Eagle International Group, an event management and services
company. As vice president, Driscoll worked
with Hawaii Pacific Sports as well as organizing
the Women’s World Volleyball Grand Prix, a fiveweek competition in Honolulu.
Driscoll resides in Williamsburg with his
wife, Susan. The couple has two children – Keith,
a 1997 graduate of Holy Cross and Leslie, a 2001
graduate of William and Mary.
women’s basketball coach in 1978 and guided the
Tribe to a VAIAW crown in her first season with
a school-record 16 wins (16-13). Her 1980 Tribe
team (11-14) placed third, while the 1981 squad
(16-16) was VAIAW runner-up. She was also at
the helm during the 1984-85 season when William and Mary made the jump to NCAA Division I. Overall, she finished her coaching career
with 115 wins, 84 of which came at William and
Mary.
When the College’s men’s and women’s
athletic programs merged in May of 1986, she
moved to administration, first serving as the Assistant to the Associate Athletics Director. Over
the past 16 years, her administrative responsibilities at W&M have included the monitoring of
financial aid matters, coordinating the scheduling
of athletic facilities, supervision of coaches and
staff and, currently, serving as the person primarily responsible for administering the day-to-day
operations of the department.
From October 1992 to June 1993 and August 1995 to July 1996, Blosser also served as act-
ing athletics director in an interim capacity. For
her efforts, she was named the first recipient of
the John Randolph Inspiration Award. Blosser has
served on various committees such as the NCAA
Strategic Planning Committee and the Colonial
Athletic Association Competition Committee.
Blosser began her coaching career at the
helm of the women’s basketball program at Ashland College in Ohio. During two seasons there,
she led the Eagles to successive 15-7 and 16-8
ledgers. Her 1977 squad won the AIAW Region
V Championship, while her 1978 team took the
OAISW Small College title.
A former three-sport standout at Ohio State,
Blosser graduated Cum Laude in 1975 with a
Bachelor of Science degree in physical education.
At OSU, she was selected to both Phi Beta Kappa
and Mortar Board. She competed in basketball,
field hockey and tennis and captained both the
basketball and field hockey squads her senior
year. She went on to earn her master’s degree
from the University of North Carolina Greensboro in 1978.

Athletic Success
A charter member of the CAA 1986, W&M has been the
CAA’s most successful program over the past two decades. The
2005-06 year was another banner season for the College, as it
added three more conference titles. The Tribe has now captured
84 total CAA Championships since 1986, over 30 more than the
closest rival.
Individually, women’s tennis standout Megan MoultonLevy earned All-America honors after advancing to the “Final
Four” of the NCAA Singles Tournament.
Academic Excellence
The Tribe’s athletic accomplishments do not come at the
expense of its student’s academic responsibilities, as W&M
ranked fourth, the highest of any scholarship-granting school
and of any public university, in the nation among institutions
with two or more Division I teams when the NCAA released its
inaugural Academic Progress Rate scores in March of 2005.
This year, the NCAA specifically listed 18 W&M athletic
squads as recipients of its public recognition award for 200506.
Since 1992, 36 Tribe athletes have been designated Academic All-Americans, including Keith Bechtol, who was a third
team selection in the spring, and since 1996, 39 student-athletes have been members of Phi Beta Kappa.
In 2002-03, the CAA created a Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Award in each of its 21 sports, and not surprisingly, William
and Mary has set the pace with 18.
In addition, four of William and Mary’s five Rhodes scholars
participated in varsity sports.

The College of William and Mary and its student-athletes
take a great deal of pride in the quality of its athletic facilities. Over the last several years, the College has bolstered its
lineup of venues to match the success that the Tribe has
shown in the athletic arena, which has been unmatched in
the Colonial Athletic Association. William and Mary boasts
some of the finest athletic arenas in the nation, from its
newest venue, Albert-Daly Field, to the oldest, Walter J.
Zable Stadium at Cary Field, a campus landmark since 1935.
The College is committed to providing the student-athlete
the most enjoyable and rewarding atmosphere possible.
