Villavicencio doesn't have an exact
date of foundation but it is known
that after Independence the region
became a popular destination for
people from all over the country.
Around that time the city was
established, but remained small and
progress was slow. During the XX
century as the whole "llanos" (great
plains) region grew and agriculture
and livestock farming boomed, the
city became its centre and is now
one of the most important cities in
the country in that branch of the
economy.
GEOGRAPHY
Villavicencio and the whole region
is an enormous plain and as such
climate is tropical but
predominantly dry all year round.
Transport to Bogotá is easy as
there is a good highway
connecting the two in a journey of
about three hours.
