1.
Background:
TiAuto, Canon International, JC Group, Finningley Estates and many other corporates entered into
either Socio-Economic Development or Enterprise development agreements with Jedidiah trust,
with specific reference to the Custodian role required.

management of the approved projects.
2.
Main Projects:
For SED; Most parties wishes to enter into a selected Child Day Care FEEDING Programmes, run
through Judea Hope and a number of the Judea Hope day care centres where ‘adopted’.
For ED; the sponsoring party would specify the selected project and outcomes, yet others would
agreed that some of the funds should be allocated to a sustainability program, with a specific focus
on NEW VENTURE CREATION.
The programs run through Segametsi Hope (SA) and the provincial companies.
a. SED - Feeding Program:
The FEEDING program is to ensure that every child at the ‘adopted’ day care center would
receive one meal a day for the entire year. The meal would consist of a special packed
balanced meal with additional nutrients and vitamins. In addition the day care center would
receive cash to purchase vegetables and a protein supplement.
More information under paragraph 5.
b. ED – Specific or the Sustainability Program:

sustainability program consisted of various activities and was designed as a long term

product to enable Day care centers to start their own supporting business
ventures,

Segametsi Hope (SA) has successfully created the Segametsi Micro Loan fund

as follows:
Grant Funds Total Application - 2012-2014
Feeding Scheme 2011 - 2014
Sustainability program Expenditure
Enterprise Development Fund Balance
Cash Balance on hand
The Segametsi Enterprise Development Sustainability fund was created during 2013
with the main purpose to create a “ROLLING GRANT” situation. This Rolling Grant concept
allows the funds so allocated to be recovered and re-invested at a nominal interest rate. Bad
debt write-off will be a given in the market that Segametsi operates but because of the peer
pressure between members this write off percentage should be relatively low.

SUSTAINABILITY program roll-out progress:
Some of the program highlights are:
a. Segametsi Hope (SA) Enterprise Development Fund
Segametsi Hope (SA) in conjunction with the provincial Segametsi companies, formed an
Enterprise Development Fund. The purpose is to rather advance funding on a micro loan
basis to its members than keep on handing out grants. The fund views the advances of
micro-loans almost as “Rolling Grants”. Recovery of the loan allows Segametsi Hope to
extend another loan to the next applicant.
To date 55 loans have been granted, total value of R805,479, of which R183,132 has
been repaid to date. Accumulated Bad debts to date amount to R28,800 leaving a balance
of R593,547 outstanding and recoverable over a 3 year period.

A number of micro loans were advanced as starter packs, capacity building, improvements
and funding of particular assets.
i. Clothing:
In Boksburg, at the NBCC training center a clothing wholesale facility was established.
Clothing stock (end of range) from Wizard Clothing to the value of R150,000 was
purchased. The Ekurhuleni day care centers are buying their replacement stock directly
from the new facility. Other day care centers selling clothes orders through the SA head

vi. Co-operative training and Registration
Day-care and other entrepreneurs were assisted in registering co-operatives. Segametsi
Hope handles the registration process. Each co-operative received coaching on the
corporate governance and administration required. Once these co-operatives have a
successful track record they will be assisted with the preparation of a business plan, cash
flow projections and an application to DTI to qualify for grants.
Day care centers are motivated to expand their business focus by including aspects such
as internet café’s or clothing agency / sales. These expansions help them to qualify for a
grant from the DTI and to elevate them to a sustainable unit.
12 co-operatives have been registered and an additional 23 are in progress.
