U16 Programs
Camps & Training
U18 & U20 Program
U16 athletes are 14 and 15 years old. Training at this level is a minimum 3-day per
week season commitment. For most second year U16s this extends to 4 days per
week. U16 athletes begin their high performance training through the Individual
Program, offered in two variations that continue to develop strong technical and
racing skills, but that differ by commitment and competitive intensity: the 10-Week
Program (Division 2/moderate) and the All-Inclusive (Division 1/high). Fall Camps
and Season Camps are a component of the U16 Program.
Copper Mountain
Pre-Season Camp
U18 athletes are 16 and 17 years old. Alpine will be offering three programs for
these athletes: Weekend, Extended, and the SOD Team.
The proven elements of every successful ski racer are effective coordination with
their academic endeavours, time on snow, and physical and mental training.
Collingwood has a high concentration of ski racers and the shortest number of ski
days of any skiing place in the world. Consequently, it becomes imperative to spend
time away skiing in order to stay competitive with other Provinces. Away training
provides exposure to a variety of terrain and increases the number of days on
snow. The Mid December camp is the only mandatory camp; the rest are optional
however attending one of the camps at Mt. Hood in July and/or August and Copper
Mountain in November is strongly recommended.
Weekend/Division 2 Program - 10 Weeks
Racing will continue in much the same way as the experience in the U14 Program.
Christmas and New Year’s Camps are both included. Team selection will take place
during Christmas Camp. Time on snow is crucial at this level and attending preseason camps will help athletes prepare for the season.
Saturdays: 9:00 am - 3:30 pm, 1-hour lunch (11 am - 12 pm), Sundays: 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Price: $1,422.00, After Nov. 15th: $1,706.00, After Dec. 15th: $1,852.00
Individual/Division 1 Program
This program offers the individual athletes high performance training. For most
second year U16s a 4 day per week on-hill commitment is strongly recommended.
The mid December Camp is included in the Program price. This Program requires
not only an on snow commitment to race training, but also to a dry-land program
that will help ensure the fitness level and strength required to be successful. The
athlete should commit to off season dry-land training as well as both on and off
snow training from November to the end of April. In an effort to provide the
highest possible level of program for our U16 Individual athletes we are happy to
have Wayne Howard returning as the Head Coach of the U16 Division 1 Program.
We will continue to work with other clubs to provide the best possible training
environments for our athletes. The goal of this program is to produce the most
successful U16 athletes on and off the hill in Canada.

with a lesser time commitment. This weekend program is based on 10 weekends
plus Christmas Camp and coaching for all the Alpine Ontario series races. The
Alpine Ontario series includes 3 GS, 3 SL, SG and possibly a ski cross. Additional
Invitational races will be available to these athletes throughout the season. Training
is available on Fridays at a cost of $60.00 per day. The option of the mid December

higher level of intensity than the Weekend Program currently offers. In addition to
all weekends and Fridays (through the competitive season) the Program also includes
the Sun Peaks Camp, Christmas Camp, March Break Camp and coaching on all race
days. These athletes will be working with the U16 Division 1 Program and will have
the opportunity to race in the local FIS series as well as the U16 Division 1 Series

SOD Program
The Southern Ontario Team (SOD Team), formerly the Escarpment Ski Team, is a
non-profit organization that offers a high level racing program focused on regional
and National level FIS racing. The SOD Team tailors and individualizes programs
to meet the needs of today’s diversified student athletes. It provides a dynamic
program with passionate coaches that maximize athletic development, focus on the
importance of education, and create an extremely positive experience to allow the
skier to grow as an athlete, student and person. The athletes on the SOD team will
have access to the area’s best training venues: Alpine, Craigleith, Osler, Georgian
Peaks, Devil’s Glen and Blue Mountain. This program is endorsed by Alpine
Ontario as the path to the Ontario Ski Team.
Program Cost: $12,500.00
For more information contact Jason Manning at j.manning7290@gmail.com.
NSA - National FIS Racing & Academic Program
This program provided by the National Ski Academy in Collingwood is an allinclusive package that includes camps, race fees, travel and accommodation,
transportation, coaching, fitness, ski suit and private school education. At this
commitment level the student athlete will receive up to 130 days on snow and up to
35 FIS race starts following the AIM guidelines defined by Alpine Canada (ACA).
The program begins August 15th when the student athlete travels to Switzerland
for an 8-week camp that includes approximately 35 training days on the glaciers in
Saas Fe and Zermatt and a 4-day educational excursion in Europe (past trips have
included Paris,Rome and Geneva). During the time in Switzerland, NSA teachers
begin delivering the first semester curriculum and a heavy emphasis is placed on
physical conditioning and injury prevention.
After returning from Europe and prior to the competitive season, athletes will
continue their on-snow training in Quebec, Alberta and locally in Collingwood.
With a heavy emphasis on academics during this period, most students will
complete their first semester courses prior to Christmas. From January through
March a typical weekday (when not travelling for a race series) involves a high
intensity on-snow training session from 8:30-noon, lunch, afternoon classes, dryland training, dinner and evening classes until 9:00 pm. Many NSA student athletes
chooseto return to their home school for the second semester. In these cases, the
NSA academic staff can liaise with the home school to deliver curriculum until
the transition point at the end of the race season. Full-time boarding is available at
additional cost.
The NSA is a non-profit ski academy and fully accredited private school located at 200
Oak Street in Collingwood. For more information please visit www.nsa.on.ca or call the
NSA at 705-444-1617.
