NEW PARISHIONERS ARE WELCOME to stop by the Church
Office to register Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm or
stop by the Parish Hall the first Sunday of each month following
the 8:45 am and 11:00 am Masses.
BAPTISM: We are pleased to help your family prepare for the
special event of your child’s entrance into our faith community.
To help parents and godparents prepare, a class (English) is held
the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:30 pm in the Community
Center and in Spanish the 2nd Saturday of each month, at
9:00 am at Guadalupana. Parents and Godparents must attend
this class prior to scheduling baptism.
MARRIAGES: If you are planning to be married at Blessed
Trinity, your preparation process should begin at least four (4)
months prior to desired date. We look forward to helping you
during your time of engagement and preparation for the vocation
of Christian marriage. Call the Church Office for an appointment
with one of our priests.
SICK CALLS AND HOSPITAL VISITS: If you or a family
member are in a local hospital or homebound and would like to
receive Communion or Sacrament of the Sick, please call the
Church Office at 629.8092 or Sister Juliet at x3211. When
registering at the hospital, put your name on the Catholic List.
STEWARDSHIP BY THE BOOK
Today’s readings speak of hospitality. Abraham, who cheerfully did for his guests
all that desert hospitality required, was rewarded with his heart’s desire—a son.
Martha also busied herself with all the details of hospitality, but grudgingly and with
complaint. Am I a cheerful or a grudging giver?

YEAR OF MERCY SERIES
Matt 9:11-13
The Pharisees said to Jesus’ disciples, “Why does your
teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” Jesus
heard this and said, “Those who are well do not
need a physician, but sick people do. Go and learn
the meaning of the words, ‘I desire mercy, not
sacrifice.’ I did not come to call the righteous but
sinners.”
Each week in our bulletin we will add five new
suggestions as to how we might promote Mercy
during this Jubilee Year. See which one(s) move you!
21) Memorize the 14 corporal and spiritual works of
mercy and show your children what they mean.
22) Instead of losing patience with someone online
(or in person), try to hear that person’s fear. Ask God
for what Solomon asked for: “an understanding
heart.”
23) Offer to drive an elderly person to Mass.
24) Recall a time you were not given the benefit of
the doubt, and extend one to someone else.
25) Put down the phone and really listen to someone else. With eye contact.
ALERT! DATE CHANGES FOR GIFT CLASSES
In Today’s Gospel, Jesus and His Apostles are on their way to Jerusalem for Passover. In other
words He is journeying to His Crucifixion and Resurrection. It is important for us to keep that in
mind. He stops in Bethany to visit Martha and Mary. Bethany is only two miles from Jerusalem, so
there is a strong sense of foreboding if we keep that in mind.
However, the focus of this reading is on many other issues and items usually. Nevertheless, as is
always the case in Holy Scripture, there is a stewardship message for us here. We could cite
hospitality as both Martha and Mary in their own ways welcome Jesus and make Him at ease.
The first and main message for us is that the Lord was welcomed into their home. Each of us is a
potential home for Jesus. Do we welcome Him? Or are we too busy with our own pursuits, our own
distractions, to find a time each day to welcome the Lord into our homes, our very being? There
are so many people who cannot seem to find time for the Lord. They are so busy that Jesus never
even gets into their houses. Rather than debate whether Martha or Mary do the right thing, we should first make sure that
our Savior is welcomed into our hearts each and every day.

This year, GIFT religious education classes for children
in Pre-K through Grade 8 will be starting on Sunday,
August 14, 10:00-10:50am. Please mark your
calendars. Also, for children receiving a sacrament,
parents need to bring a copy of their baptism
certificate to registration. We are hopefully going to
follow the regular school schedule as closely as
possible. So register your “GIFT” children early. We
will be registering THIS WEEKEND after all the
masses.
GIFT (Religious Education) for grades Pre K4- 8th
grade will close registration on Monday, August 1st at
5:00pm. Please make sure your paperwork is
completed with a check made payable to Blessed
Trinity, in order to cover the cost of textbooks.
SATURDAY MORNING CHURCH OFFICE VOLUNTEER

MARY MAGDALENE
St. Mary Magdalene was among the women who had followed
Jesus from Galilee to Jerusalem in those final days before the
crucifixion. She had been cured by Jesus -- St. Luke’s Gospel
says he’d driven out seven devils -- and she and the others
watched with great sorrow as Our Lord hung on the cross. It
was Mary Magdalene to whom he first appeared after the
resurrection. She came to the tomb with spices to anoint his
body and found the tomb empty. St. John’s Gospel recounts
that Jesus spoke to her twice, but she mistook him for the
gardener. Only when he called her by name did she know it
was Christ, risen as he’d promised, from the dead. He calls us
by name, too, and invites us to follow him with love and spend
ourselves in his service. St. Mary Magdalene, you kept loving
and kept serving, even when it appeared that all hope was
gone. And how great was your reward! Pray for us, that we
may persevere in good works until he comes again.

book with children will help them understand what is happening when they go to Mass and why Jesus is so happy they are
there. Illustrations of objects used at Mass, as well as several
prayers for children, are also included. This book can be read
before Mass to help prepare children for the celebration or
brought to Mass so that children can follow each part of the
liturgy. The goal is to help children connect the actions of the
Mass with Jesus’ gift of himself in the Eucharist.
