WHU Testimonialsx - International Affairs, Thammasat Business
WHU (GERMANY)
Halooo! This is a friendly German way of greeting.
Germany, as you know it, is one of the most important
countries in Europe in terms of economy, culture, language,
education and etc. What made me here in WHU, Germany?
Firstly, Germany is a very nice country to live in. 90% of the
people can speak and understand English. The cost of living
is considered to be lower than many countries in Europe.
And it is a very safe place to be in. Secondly, WHU is
reputable. It is believed to bee best German business school. I
would say that almost every business people in Europe
know WHU very well. Last but not least, I personally wanted to experience a small town, and
slower-pace
pace lifestyle that totally contrasts with Bangkok.
The first week in WHU
“Tauschies” is how the local students called us, the exchange
students. Life as a Tauschie there had been simplified with
the help of International relation team. They got us
prepared for the life in WHU, and Germany as a whole.
Apart from that, VIP team or student councils of WHU also
take part in creating a great experience for us during our
stay. The first week was packed up with fun and
excitement. It is also called “the orientation week” where we had a lot of break-the-ice
break
activities
together. The activities were such as team-building,
team building, rally together with welcoming dinner and
regional tour. If you have chosen WHU, I would totally recommend you to participate in every
single activity set up during the first few weeks to get to know more Tauschies. I made quite a lot
of friends there during the first week and finally ended up being close friends and always hung out.
Study in WHU
As I mentioned earlier, WHU is a reputable
German business school. Local students are very serious
about their study. They are among the best business
people in Germany (I believe) and can speak perfect
English.. Each lecture usually lasts for 3 hours. And each
class has about 6 lectures. There are different levels of class
difficulty. Some classes can get quite tough and intense
while some does not. Getting a decent “A” grade from
WHU is something that an exchange student would find it
challenging. However, there were some Tauschies who can make A grading too. Don’t worry! :D.
Moreover, the library and computer lab can be accessed 24/7 with our WHU student ID card. In my
experience, I also got some help from my exchange buddy who took one of the classes with me. She
helped me out with some part of lectures and group project. Thus, a smart advice would be getting
to know your exchange buddy!
Lifestyles in WHU
Vallendar
ar is a small town closed by a bigger town
called Koblenz. Shopping, eating out, partying activities are
available in Koblenz. You can also find a lot of Asian food
there. In Valllendar, there are 4 supermarkets. Lidl, Aldi are
the low-cost ones. You may bee surprised that some stuff
there is even cheaper than in Thialand!
My lifestyle as a Tauschie in WHU is so much
different from BBA. In the evening, other exchange students
and me sometimes cook and have dinner together, or go to
the gym. Every Tuesday night
ight we had an event together called “Tauschies Tuesday” where
exchange students gathered at Korova bar by the school, zipped the beer and talked! From time to
time during the weekend, there are also parties set up by local students at the WHU. Exchange
students are welcomed to participate in those parties and make German friends!
Activities
Of course, one of the most desirable for people who come to Europe is travelling to as many
countries as they can. Being in Germany also offers an advantage as it
it is in the center of Europe
and the transportation there is extensive. There are low-cost
low cost airlines such as Ryanair, German Wings
which the airports are not too far from Vallendar. For trains, you can directly take the train from
Vallendar station to reach wherever in Europe. If you go in fall semester, you will get to experience
a lot of wine festivals in the area. Oktorber Fest is a must-go
must go festival while you are there. When
December is approaching, there are also a lot of Christmas markets
market where you can go enjoy
drinking Gluhwein, Beer, have some yummy sausages, Christmas bakery and listen to traditional
German music.
