CALL BOB ON 027 244 9039 OR SAM ON 027 426 1909 Marotiri Messenger every Friday FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK Parents and members of the Marotiri School Community, Nau mai haere mai, We have had a wonderful start back, made all the easier with two abbreviated working weeks. We have welcomed some new children to the school. Aliya & Charley Orr Yr 4 & 1 respectively have enrolled. They were previously at Pokuru School & have moved to Mangakino with their parents Corrin & Marcus. From Tirohanga have arrived Aaliyah Yr 4, Ngakau Yr 2 & Lhyrick-Lee Thomas-Bidois with parents Tara & Shea. Jacob Taylor-McCleland, son of Nicola & Aidan started in Room 5 this week as our most recent new entrant. We are delighted to have these new families amongst us. In a previous letter sent since school start we advised of our new teaching staff. You will have an excellent opportunity to meet them & to become familiar with what is planned for classes this year if you join us at our Parents’ Information Evening tonight. All attendees names’ will go into a lucky draw for a grocery basket kindly donated by Pak ‘n’ Save, Taupo. This is a great opportunity to, not only meet the teachers, but also to socialise with other parents. Children can come along but will remain supervised outdoors. You will have noticed a number of quite dramatic changes to the school & environment. A considerable number of trees have been felled for reasons of safety, interference of power lines & for extra light provision. The BOT plans to replant with foliage options that provide both aesthetic appeal & height limitation. A huge thank you to BOT member Mark Robertson for liaising with the tree fellers, the neighbouring farmer Barry Grattan, the fencer Kevin Hallmond, & for the hours of tractor work he has been involved in - in clearing the sites. He also arranged fire permits & supervised the burning of masses of tree debris. Much of this was undertaken in searing holiday temperatures. Other BOT members lent a hand & also dealt with a ripped & dislocated pool cover. Philip Haycock kindly donated his time & expertise, prior to a wet forecast, mending a vandalized & open-to-theelements sports shed door. Sincere thanks to all these volunteers who so generously give of their time to ensure the school environment is safe & wellmaintained. At the end of February the fuel tank & screen just inside our school entrance are to be removed & replaced by a new fueling facility. Room 6 has been refurbished. Stop by & have a look - it is an ultra-smart multi-purpose space with full kitchen facilities. The former office block has been subject to an interior spruce-up for the first time in twelve years. Our Inquiry focus for this term is entitled enigmatically “Know Your Roots”. See overleaf for more information. Birthday celebrities to start our year are a number who celebrated in January: Georgia Johnson is now 8; Keegan Firth 6; Bella Tremain 9; Tyler Nordstrom 7; Ella Henderson 7; Tom Wylie 10; Kobi Spence 8; Carter Gavin 7; Zack Hilton 6; Rubin Hoyle 9; Larissa Nordstrom 9; Maisy Breingan 7; Connor Briscoe 10. Nathan Pennington was 6 on 4 February & Shakira Aspin turned 9 on 7th. Happy Birthday to you all.
