The “Archangel Gabriel, at the time of the Annunciation, informed the Mother of God that Her cousin Elizabeth had miraculously conceived and was soon to be the mother of a son. In her holy joy and gratitude, determined to go to congratulate and assist the mother of the Baptist. “Mary, therefore, arose,” Saint Luke says, “and with haste went into the hill country into a city of Judea, and entering into the house of Zachary, greeted Elizabeth.” At the voice of the Mother of God, by the power and grace of Her divine Son in Her womb, Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit; and the infant in her womb, sanctified at that moment, conceived so great a joy as to leap and exult. By the infused light of the Spirit of God, Elizabeth understood the great mystery of the Incarnation … Elizabeth pronounced Mary blessed above all other women, and cried out, “How is it that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” The Virgin, hearing Her praise, sank yet lower in the abyss of Her nothingness, and melting in an ecstasy of love and gratitude to God, She burst into Her wonderful canticle, the Magnificat: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and My spirit rejoices in God, My Savior.” What marvels of grace and light God reveals to us in the souls of His Saints! Mary stayed with Her cousin almost three months, after which She returned to Nazareth. Each and every time I read or hear this scripture passage, I am filled with wonderment at this moment in the history of the salvation of humanity. Many times, I will place myself in the scene and try to image the wonderment, awe, and beauty of watching this exchange between Mary and Elizabeth. Every time I do this, my heart seems to want to burst with joy. During this Mass or this week take the time to reflect on this passage and feel the joy that it brings your heart. Reflection: While the Church we praise God for the mercies and wonders that He wrought in this mystery, we must imitate the virtues of Mary. During this upcoming Christmas season let us pay attention to our conversation and actions that can be a source that can lead us to sin. Let us meditate on the holy conversations of the cousins, and the services Mary rendered to Elizabeth and thought how we may imitate Her charity. Love Ya!!! God Bless…Fr. She is the daughter of Michael and Susan Briolo. Olivia always had a strong desire to help people, which lead to her pursuing a degree in Nursing. She felt the Lord calling her to serve Him more deeply, so she took a break from school to discern religious life. The Lord soon revealed His will for her to serve the poor through foreign missions. She was accepted to full-time foreign missionary work with Family Missions Company. Olivia is excited and ready to begin her new journey. Please keep Olivia in your thoughts and prayers! As a missionary, she will not be able to have a job, as mission work will be her job for the next 2 years. She will need about $300 dollars a month to live and she must raise the money now. I am encouraging us, the parishioners of Holy Rosary and St. Cabrini Church to support her financially as well. Every contribution will help her. She will officially start formation in September and leave for mission work in January. If you are able to contribute to this great work, please make checks payable to Olivia Briolo and get them to our office or label them clearly and put them in the collection. Thank you for your prayers and generosity. OUR LADY OF THE MOST HOLY ROSARY/ CABRINI DECEMBER 20, 2015 Friends of St. Monica Widows who ar e gr ieving the loss of a loved one.
