Rascal Spay Neuter
Feral Cat Clinic
A spay neuter feral cat clinic sponsored by SNAP took
place with the Rascal Mobile Unit on Thursday,
October 24, 2013, in the parking lot of the Meyers Lake
Ballroom. This clinic was open only to trappers known
to be engaged in TNR work or individuals who have
been confirmed to be working to spay or neuter local
feral cats or strays. Since the number of surgery slots
was limited, the clinic did not include owners’ cats. For
information about future events, please contact Terry
Sampsel, a SNAP spay-neuter coordinator at (330)
484-7898.
As many people are aware, the feral cat population in some
communities is continuing to grow and create potential problems
for residents and local wildlife. In order to address these
problems and work towards the reduction of the feral population
in a humane way, it has been recognized by national organizations
such as the ASPCA and the Humane Society of the United States
(HSUS) that the most viable, long-term approach involves TrapNeuter-Return (TNR) programs. These programs include the
humane trapping of the feral cats which are then spayed or
neutered, given rabies vaccinations, ear-tipped (to denote that the
cat has been sterilized), and then returned to the same location
where they were trapped (provided the location does not present
undue risk to the cats).
805 surgeries to date in 2013.
Over 73,000 spay/neuter surgeries since 1982.

One Easy Way To Help
SNAP is in need of “FOREVER” postage stamps
for the hundreds of spay/neuter forms and thank you
notes we send out each year. The donation of stamps
is a huge financial help. Thank you for your help in
the past.
The stamps can be mailed or dropped off at the
Animal Attic, 3124 9th SW Canton OH 44710.
Wurlitzer Juke Box Bank with 2 mini
cassettes, Bill Haley's Rock Around the
Clock and The Platters, Only You (both
play) and the jukebox lights up.$45.
Bertie was a cat coowned by Steven
Flack and his
family. The Flack
family is from
London, England
and have visited
and shopped at the
Animal Attic
several times in the
past couple of
years. Every time
they come to the
Attic they also
bring a couple of
boxes of donations
with them from
London. SNAP
certainly
appreciates their
thoughtfulness and
we always enjoy
seeing them.

Farewells and Thank Yous
We are sorry to have to report that long time SNAP
(formerly APG) member Nancy Martin recently
passed away. Nancy was an asset to our organization
from the day she joined. She was a Board Member for
many years, until she stepped down due to her health.
She also volunteered at the Animal Attic, weekly for
years, and supported our work for the animals in
every way she could. She was a super intelligent mildmannered person who was well respected and often
the voice of reason at meetings- just what every Board
needs! She was ultra-kind and her heart was open to
the plight of the animals in all respects. We will miss
you, Nancy and rest well-and for the animals we say
THANK YOU!
Entertainment Books
2014 Canton and Akron Entertainment Books will be
available the week of August 12th. They are $30.each and
will be available at the Animal Attic, 3124 9th St SW in
Canton or by calling Joan at 330-494-0006.
All of our members and supporters received
an email or postcard in August announcing
that our resale store, the Animal Attic, is no
longer accepting donations of clothing for
resale. What that notice didn't mention was
the volunteer who has sorted through the
thousands of bags and boxes of clothing
that came through the Animal Attic for over
25 years! SNAP member and volunteer
Johanne Simone has taken in, sorted, priced
and displayed the clothing for most of that
time, year-in year-out. The work room at
the Attic is not heated and has no air
conditioning . Johanne has worked in both
below zero cold and 90 degree heat, hauling
heavy bags and boxes and keeping the
clothing donations under control.
Thankfully, Johanne intends to stick around
and continue to volunteer at the Animal
Attic and we are so grateful for her years of
dedication and hard work!
On behalf of the animals, THANKS
JOHANNE!

Canton Ballet’s Muttcracker
On December 13, 14, 15, 2013,
Canton Ballet will present a
“Muttcracker” at the Canton Palace
Theatre! This year for the first time,
dogs will appear in the first two
sections of The Nutcracker ballet.
One dog will be escorted across the
stage during the Prologue in a
street scene from1860 complete
with street vendors, carolers, a
chestnut seller and more. The
second dog will appear in the Party
Scene and will be carried around
the stage for part of the scene.
In connection with this first “Muttcracker”,
Canton Ballet wishes to promote spaying/
neutering and adoption in Stark
County and is partnering with SNAP
as well as local humane organizations
and rescues to spread the word about
the good work being done here. We
encourage you to support these
organizations in any way that you can.
Please donate to help their causes.
