Terrance Guardipee
Blackfeet Portraits
Cheryl Ferrin
Portrait Quilts
Ledger Art
The art quilt portraits are of living artists from the Blackfeet
Nation. Cheryl uses her quilted portraits to capture the
individual’s spirit. She melds her needle arts experience with
a high tech background and her love of the figure to creative
striking and sensitive 4-8’ high portraits. The quilts will be
displayed with two pieces of the Native American artist’s
work. The Hockaday is proud to be selected as the first stop
for the traveling exhibition.
Guardipee’s unique painting style incorporates traditional
Blackfeet images in all of his artwork. Terrance, an awardwinning artist, was one of the first Native American artists
to revive the historic ledger art tradition. He uses antique
documents to create his artwork that include maps, ledgers,
check and war rations dating from the 19th century that
originate from the Blackfeet homeland in Montana.
