1Recent Acquisitions Exhibition,
Kerstein Gallery
This exhibition highlights some of the recent works
of art acquired by the Museum, including decorative
arts, paintings, and sculptures. Many of the works on
view were bequeathed to the Museum by Betty and Hal
Demuth of Winchester, Virginia, whose generous bequest
has helped grow the Museum’s collection of 19th and
20th century American and European
art. Notable pieces from the Demuth
Bequest on view will include oil
paintings by Francisco Luis Mora,
Chauncey Foster Ryder, and sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye (French,
1796–1875), whose Running Elephant,
is pictured on the cover.
Recent Acquisitions: Cameo Glass Vase and Holder,
Emile Gallé, glass, gold, and bronze; gift of Mr. Michael
Merson, Baltimore, Maryland 2013

This year’s juror is Dow Benedict, Dean of the School of Arts
and Humanities and Professor of Sculpture at Shepherd
