Key Supply list available upon registration Messy class, please wear appropriate clothing Scholarship Program Our scholarship fund was created to give all students the opportunity to experience a class at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts, regardless of financial limitations. We encourage teachers, counselors, family, and friends to invite students to apply to our program. Following the success of our first-ever Creative Aging Program, we will be offering classes this fall that are designed to provide affordable and accessible art instruction for older adults (55+). Salvador Dalí – October 18 | 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Are you surreal?! Explore altered worlds though the eyes of Dalí. Pop-aganda! – November 15 | 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. You can do it! Try your hand at painting iconic WWII posters. N.C. & Andrew Wyeth – December 20 | 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Spend your winter with the Wyeths! Immerse yourself in the scenic narratives of the Wyeth family. Create unique art while you enjoy wine and snacks! The Art + Wine monthly workshop nurtures the creative spirits of many emerging adult artists in our community. We strive to create a comfortable environment at an affordable cost for beginning artists. Blend hands-on painting with art history, technique lessons, and knowledgeable instructors for a wonderful social and educational experience. Two glasses of wine and light snacks included in cost of the class. 3 Mosaics in 3D Workshop AGES Adults (Ages 14+ may register with adult accompaniment) Instructor: Jamie Schorsch $60/members, $70/non-members Saturday, October 8 | 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Learn how to integrate and apply mosaic designs and techniques to threedimensional alternative surfaces like cups, plates, frames or planters! Students are required to bring their own alternative surface on which to create their mosaic. We will also discuss composition, design, and color theory as it relates to mosaic-making. Memory Mosaic Workshop AGES Adults (Ages 14+ may register with adult accompaniment) Instructor: Jamie Schorsch $60/members, $70/non-members Saturday, November 12 | 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Students will create a mosaic that uses traditional glass/ceramic tiles and items of personal significance (i.e. jewelry, buttons, bottle caps, broken silverware or dishes etc.) to embed in their mosaic design. Students should bring their own personal items to incorporate. We will learn to integrate these items related to memories while considering composition, design, and color theory. 4 Drawing Creating Comics! AGES 14 – Adult Instructor: Billy Simms $80/members, $100/non-members Mondays | 6:00 p.m – 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 12 – October 17 Session II: November 7 – December 12 Students will learn how to make their own comics, starting with making characters and writing stories, and finally creating a short comic strip starring their original character. Learn helpful story-telling tips and explore new drawing styles! Drawing Studio AGES 14-Adult Instructor: Dan Couch $80/members, $100/non-members Wednesdays | 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 14 – October 19 Session II: November 9 – December 14 Drawing Studio focuses on the fundamental principles of drawing with an emphasis on value, line, form, space and scale. This course will build on observational drawing skills with traditional media while allowing space for creative growth. Topics covered will include: still life, portraits, landscapes and light/value study. The final weeks of the course will focus on the student’s individual choice of material for the creation of a unique piece of art. Students may repeatedly take the course to continually advance their development, or explore media of their interest with more depth. 5 Kids Drawing AGES 5-9 Instructor: Emily Howard $50/members, $70/non-members Thursdays | 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Session I: September 15 – October 20 Session II: November 10 – December 22* *No class 11/24 Kids Drawing offers a journey into the exploration of artistic expression through drawing and drawing-inspired sculpture. Concentrating on developing creativity and techniques with a variety of art media, the young artist will discover ways in which they can interact with the artistic world through observation and creative problem solving skills. Drawing Outside the Box AGES 10-14 Instructor: Emily Howard $60/members, $80/non-members Thursdays | 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Session I: September 15 – October 20 Session II: November 10 – December 22* *No class 11/24 Drawing Outside the Box is designed for older students who wish to explore and develop their creative abilities through various drawing experiences with a variety of media. New techniques help the student to experiment and observe the world through different perspectives. Students will study master artists and create drawings and drawing-inspired sculptures. 6 Painting, Mosaics & More! Beginning Acrylic Painting AGES 14 - Adult Instructor: Jamie Schorsch $85/members, $105/non-members Mondays | 6:00 p.m - 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 12 – October 17 Session II: November 7 – December 12 Beginning Acrylic Painting will introduce students to acrylic painting basics and materials. Students will learn acrylic mixing strategies, color theory, and various approaches to painting including blending and glazing. Modeling form, rendering space, and studying masterworks will be the focus of this class. Students may repeatedly take the class to continually advance their painting skills. Painter's Palette AGES 7-12 Instructor: Sarah Pribonic $70/members, $90/non-members Tuesdays | 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 pm Session I: September 13 – October 18 Session II: November 8 – December 13 Learn how to create fantastic acrylic and watercolor paintings using texture, line, and color! Students will explore different types of painting while discovering their own creative voice and expression. Be sure to wear clothes that could get a little messy as the class experiments and observes the world through different perspectives. 7 Mask-Making AGES 9 – 13 Instructor: Kim Stephens $75/members, $95/non-members Wednesdays | 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 pm Session I: September 14 – October 19 Session II: November 9 – December 14 This class will introduce students to the concept of 3D plaster mask-making. Each student will have the opportunity to use their artistic creativity to design fun, unique, one-of-a-kind, colorful masks. During the class, students will be creating two masks: a human mask, based on world cultural designs, and an animal mask, based on a creature from the animal kingdom. Students will learn all of the necessary components needed for creating plaster face masks. Students will discover painting techniques for decorating 3D surfaces. We will discuss overall color choices, pattern, and design. Students will also study techniques for adding decorative elements around the outside of their masks to create finishing touches. Mosaics: The Joy of Breaking Glass AGES 15 – Adult Instructor: Lori Kay Farr $90/members, $110/non-members Thursdays | 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 15 – October 20 Session II: November 10 – December 22* *No class 11/24 This class will teach the basic fundamentals of mosaic arts. Learn how to create mosaics from a variety of media including ceramic, pottery and colored glass tiles and sheets. Explore basic design principles, color theory, materials, and techniques. Discover how to cut and shape tesserae using a variety of tools. This is a great class for beginners and intermediate students who want to further their skills in creating mosaics. Classes begin with yoga breathing techniques and movements to warm muscles and joints followed by basic yoga postures. Each class ends with a guided deep relaxation leaving students feeling refreshed and energized. Suitable for all fitness levels. Wear clothes that allow you to move freely. All of our yoga instructors are Certified Yoga Alliance RYT (registered yoga teachers). Mats and props are provided, but students may bring their own. Kundalini Yoga AGES 15-Adult Instructor: Laura Cole $65/members, $85/non-members Drop-in Cost: $13/members, $15/non-members Thursdays | 6:00 p.m. - 7:15 p.m. Session I: September 15 – October 20 Session II: November 10 – December 22* *No class 11/24 9 Using the science of sequence, poses and your breath, Kundalini yoga is a powerful transformation tool for the body, mind and spirit. Each class has a strong focus on self-mastery while working the inner and outer systems for a comprehensive workout. Great for weight loss, enhanced moods and positive mindsets. Appropriate for all fitness levels; modifications will be given. Mats are provided, but students may bring their own. Pottery All adult students must purchase clay at $17.00 for 25 lbs. Only clay purchased through the Fitton Center may be fired in the facility’s kilns. Clay is provided for all youth and teen classes. Youth Pottery AGES 6-9 Instructor: Carol Waldorf $65/members, $85/non-members Tuesdays | 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Session I: September 13 – October 18 Session II: November 8 – December 13 Have fun with clay as you explore its endless possibilities. Discover hand building techniques such as coiling and slab building. Create original tiles, pinch pots and more! Students will learn how to finish their project with underglazes and glazes and take home their very own works of art. Using these methods, students will create sculptures and useful decorative items as they develop their artistic abilities through self-expression. Pre-teen Pottery AGES 10-13 Instructor: Stephanie Strong $65/members, $85/non-members Thursdays | 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Session I: September 15 – October 20 Session II: November 10 – December 22* *No class 11/24 This class is geared towards those with previous pottery experience and abilities who are interested in further developing their talents in the pottery studio. The instructor will work with students at their individual levels and enable them to progress to more difficult projects. New techniques in clay and methods of finishing will be introduced each session, along with pottery wheel demonstrations. This class will improve students’ pottery skills, giving them the confidence to progress and grow further as artists. 10 Teen Pottery AGES 13-17 Instructor: Carol Waldorf $75/members, $95/non-members Wednesdays | 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 14 – October 19 Session II: November 9 – December 14 Learn the basics of the pottery wheel and hand-building pottery techniques. Students will create their own functional pieces or sculptures as they progress at their own rate to more challenging projects. Some experience with clay is suggested; beginners to pottery will start with basic skills and hand-building and then have an introduction to the pottery wheel experience at the end of the session. Pottery Basics AGES Adults Session I Instructor: Margie Gallo Session II Instructor: Mary Catherine Ruby $85/members, $105/non-members Wednesdays | 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 14 – October 19 Session II: November 9 – December 14 This class is for the adult who is completely new to pottery. Master the basics of hand-building with clay to create pots, platters and more. Learn to work with coils and slabs and create surface textures with a variety of tools. Finished work will incorporate various glazing and decorating techniques. Functional Pottery AGES Adults Instructor: Linda Hanson $85/members, $105/non-members Tuesdays | 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 13 – October 18 Session II: November 8 – December 13 This class is for intermediate to advanced students interested in learning a potpourri of functional and decorative techniques such as slab building, exciting surface decoration techniques, glazing methods and more! Make tiles, platters, bowls, and other decorative pieces. Come join fellow pottery lovers in our studio! 11 Independent Clay Study AGES Adults Instructor: Haruko Mizoguchi $60/members, $80/non-members Mondays | 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Session I: September 12 – October 17 Session II: November 7 – December 12 For individuals with experience in pottery and/or clay work who just want to come and play, release creative energy, or are looking for a place to enhance their skills. Independent Clay Study provides a great setting where potters can develop their own ideas and interact with other artists. An instructor will be available for assistance on Mondays; additional open studio hours will be posted. Please note: In order to register for this class, students must have completed at least one guided adult class at the Fitton Center (Pottery Basics, Functional Pottery or Wheel Throwing). Wheel Throwing AGES Adults Instructor: Julie Blair $85/members, $105/non-members Thursdays | 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 22 – October 27* Session II: November 10 – December 22* *Fall I no class 9/15 *Fall II no class 11/24 For the new, nearly new, and “haven’t done it for a while” student. Learn the basics of the pottery wheel or fine tune your skills. Create bowls, tumblers, mugs, vases, or whatever you are ready for. Beginners welcomed and encouraged. Sculptural Hand-Building AGES Adults Instructor: Joe Paushel $85/members, $105/non-members Mondays | 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 12 – October 17 Session II: November 7 – December 12 This class is for the adult who has some basic experience with clay. Learn to combine multiple hand building techniques including: slab, coil, additive, and subtractive methods in order to create many different sculptural forms. Students are welcome to explore their choice of sculptural imagery including both representational and abstracted forms. Sculptures will be finished with glazes or other exploratory surfaces. 12 Photography & Technology Digital Photography for Beginners AGES 14 - Adult Instructor: Valda Hilley $80/members, $100/non-members Wednesdays | 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 14 – October 19 Session II: November 9 – December 14 A class for beginning digital photography students, this course covers camera operation, principles of image capture, composition and subject matter. Areas of artistic expression will also be explored in addition to the organization of images. Applications such as e-mail, print and storage will also be covered. All types of digital cameras welcome. Intermediate Digital Photography AGES 14 - Adult Instructor: Valda Hilley $80/members, $100/non-members Mondays | 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 12 – October 17 Session II: November 7 – December 12 If you want to move beyond “point and shoot,” find new inspiration, and take on new challenges, this class is for you. Students will develop their skills and enhance their photographs through image manipulation. Students will also work on the subtleties and complexities of composition, lighting, and more. PLEASE NOTE: Students must have a dSLR camera (with interchangeable lenses) that will shoot in full manual mode and basic photography skills. 13 Photoshop for Photographers AGES 14 - Adults Instructor: Valda Hilley $80/members, $100/non-members Thursdays | 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Session I: September 15 – October 20 This class is a great introduction to Photoshop for those who want to step into the world of image editing. This class will get you up and running in Photoshop so you can edit images with confidence. This course is suited for photographers with basic computer skills or as a follow up to our Digital Photography classes. Requirements: Students should have Adobe Photoshop CC (Creative Cloud) and bring their laptops to class. Lightroom for the Advanced Photographer AGES 14 - Adults Instructor: Valda Hilley $80/members, $100/non-members Thursdays | 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Session II: November 10 – December 22* *No class 11/24 Take your digital photography to the next level and learn to use the Lightroom 5 Develop module’s advanced editing tools and raw processing tools. This class is for any serious photographer - professional or passionate amateur. If you are passionate about your photographs, use a digital SLR, shoot in RAW mode, and use the manual exposure settings - this class is for you! Requirements: Students should have Lightroom CC (Creative Cloud) and bring their laptops to class. 14 Private Music Lessons Each music lesson is 30-minutes in length and must be purchased in 4 or 8 lesson packs. It is recommended that students/parents call or e-mail the instructor first to determine if they have lesson spots available. If so, lessons can then be purchased with the Fitton Center. Instructors will only teach lessons when payment has been made in full. 4-lesson cost: $80/members, $100/non-members 8-lesson cost: $150/members, $190/non-members (SAVE $10!) Guitar/Bass/Ukulele Lessons AGES 7 – Adult Instructor: Mike Hicks Guitar students will be introduced to a variety of styles such as rock, country, pop and rhythm & blues in a fun and enthusiastic setting! Instruments taught include electric guitar, acoustic guitar, ukulele, and bass. Lessons will focus on developing technique, hand coordination, rhythm, picking techniques and music theory. Questions for Mike? Call 513-295-6450 Guitar/Voice Lessons AGES 8 – Adult Instructor: Dave Sams Beginning to advanced guitar instruction. Core guitar, kid’s guitar, singing, and strumming, finger-board theory and improvisation. Classical and finger-style using traditional note reading or tablature, chord diagrams, scales and songs. The goal is a fun, relaxed environment for learning the art of playing the guitar. Beginning vocal and performance coaching is also available for students teen through adult. Questions for Dave? Call 513-235-8744 15 Flute Lessons AGES 10 – Adult Instructor: Becki Chesnes Relaxed one-on-one flute instruction for playing levels beginning to advanced intermediate. Lessons will emphasize flute fundamentals, solo and ensemble repertoire, ear training, music theory, sight reading and fun! More advanced students will have the opportunity to accompany Becki to rehearsals, recording sessions, and concerts and perform in studio recitals. Questions for Becki? All lessons include the following: music theory; practice and playing techniques; warm-ups; exercises to enhance playing ability; improvisation skills; reading basic chord charts. Call 513-257-1348 Voice Lessons AGES 9 – Adult Instructor: Rebekah Dixon All lessons include the following: Basic knowledge of how the body produces sound (voice); Understanding correct breathing techniques and posture; How basic health of the body affects the voice; Vocal warm-ups and exercises; Focus on increasing vocal range; Focus on improving overall vocal tone quality; Basic music theory; Sight singing and choral reading techniques (optional); Harmonization skills (optional) Questions for Rebekah? If a class does not have sufficient enrollment, affected students will be notified about any changes at least two days before class is due to start. If a class must be cancelled by the Fitton Center, students will be refunded 100% of their tuition or can transfer to another open class or session. • If a student withdraws from a class 7 days before it is to begin or earlier, 100% of the tuition will be refunded. • If student withdraws from a class less than 7 days before it is to begin, 50% of the tuition will be refunded. • NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN ONCE CLASSES HAVE BEGUN.
