BLYTH PRIMARY SCHOOL SMALL SCHOOL- UNLIMITED OPPORTUNITIES August St, Blyth, SA, 5462. PH: 88 445 195 FAX: 88 445 02 e-mail: dl.0586.info@schools.sa.edu.au Message from the Principal: Diary Dates A very warm welcome back to Blyth Primary School- We hope that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday and a great start to the New Year. It is a blustery day as I sit and write this – I feel as if I have experienced three seasons in the space of 8 days! As an ex-Adelaide Hills resident I am familiar with such things but it has been a bit of a surprise given it is mid - summer. I have had a busy time and am slowly but surely getting to know the processes and practices of the school. In week two I will begin taking classes. I will be taking all three classes over a two day period. (Tuesday and Wednesday). Some of my lessons will be with individual classes but I will also be taking combined classes. I am looking forward to it but have needed this week to work on administration. I am aware that Blyth Primary has a strong history of parent participation. I would therefore encourage everyone to fill in a history clearance form (see Julia at the front office) as per the Department’s requirements. A history clearance enables volunteers to participate on a regular basis (if they wish) as distinct from single events, such as BBQs, Sports Days etc. We will also be sending out nomination forms for the Governing Council. It has been delightful observing the enthusiasm of our new reception students. I warmly welcome all of our parents, but in particular our new families. This coming Monday I will be hosting a cuppa for parents following the morning assembly. Please join me if you have time in order to get to know me and to ask any questions. It will also be a good opportunity for new families to meet other parents. We are also having a pancake breakfast on Tuesday morning as part of our Kids Matter Program. I am looking for volunteers to cook and serve so if you have a spare half hour first thing in the morning, please let me know. New students and Principal We welcome William Reljich, Tilly Welke, Elle Richards, Nathan Angus, Mikayla Eime, Guinevere Gill and Bryce Toms to Reception, along with Alyssa Toms in Year 2 and Marie-Louise Adams as the new Principal. 5/2/16 3pm Assembly 8/2/16 9am Assembly under the shade 9.15am Meet the Principal 9/2/16 9-9.30am Pancake day 15/2/16 3.45pm Kids Matter team meeting 16/2/16 Crows players visit 17/2/16 Tuck Day 19/2/16 3pm Assembly 22/2/16 Acquaintance night 7pm AGM Gov Council Attachments Tuck Day Roster Absence Forms Permission Forms Student update details Governing Council Nomination Bookclub orders 17/2/16 Parent Complaint Brochure AGM 2016 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING We invite BPS Families to attend the Blyth Primary School Annual General Meeting (AGM) which will be held after Acquaintance Night from 7:00pm in the Library on Monday the 22nd of February. Feel free to join us and hear from Marie-Louise Adams (Principal) who will present the 2015 Annual Report and the recommendations school for 2016. This will be followed by the election of parent representatives to the school’s Governing Council for 2016. A student’s perspective – the new school year! Everyone has settled in well and there are lots of happy faces. We have been doing a lot of thinking, planning and discussing rules and expectations of the classroom, as well as team building. We have already started work in maths, writing, art, reading and German. In the next couple of weeks we have lots planned including Crows visits and Pink Stumps Day, where we will be raising funds for the Mc Grath Foundation. The school will also be going to a dinosaur show. This year is a Wakakirri year for us, where we perform a musical dance at the Entertainment Centre, competing against other schools from around the state. We have started the year off with lots of energy and excitement, and we look forward to these and many more events. Thank you Lotte Jacka Yr 6 Crows Representatives visit 4/2/16 Today representatives from the Crows came to visit and talk about the 5 Habits of Happiness. This fits in really well with the Fish Philosophy that we use at school. Thankyou for your donation At the end of the year money was collected to buy gifts for children for Christmas. Hi families Welcome to 2016! The Children are trying so hard to listen and it is nice how the Year 1’s are supporting the new Receptions, in fact the older children do as well in the yard. There are dinosaurs in our room and we will be learning a bit about life before dinosaurs and after dinosaurs. It has been interesting to hear what the students know about dinosaurs and as of Tuesday nobody has realised that humans and dinosaurs didn’t co-exist. Some know they are dead, and we have different theories so far! We have learnt that they are reptiles and had scaly skin and laid eggs. In week 5 the whole school goes to Adelaide for an excursion about dinosaurs. The other main area of learning in the early days is how to get along with others, get familiar with the classroom, and routines. We are getting to know each other and so could you please send a ‘family photo’ to start building up their own “portrait”. We have counted, painted, printed, done indoor/outdoor games, construction, visited the library, had music, PE, and heard stories. The Rec have learnt s and a and the Year 1s have started home reading and some writing. AND we‘ve done more, more, more. PLEASE see me if you need more information, I’ll see you on Acquaintance Night in week 4. Bye from Gabrielle Hi Welcome back! I have sent a separate newsletter home about our class. Hope you all had a lovely holiday and I will see you at Acquaintance Night in week 4. Regards Jillian Hi Parents I hope you have all had a wonderful, relaxing break, as have I! The 4 - 7 Class has got off to a fantastic start, and I am very excited about this year already. I will be sending home a letter containing information about our classroom routines on Friday. This term we will be studying an exciting novel called Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen, as our Literacy Focus. To support the book's themes of survival, we will be doing a Science Unit 'Desert Survivors' and examining how to be sun smart and the effect of too much sun in Health. So far in Maths we have begun a daily Calendar Maths activity, and next week we will set up our Maths Journals and begin our short unit on lines and angles. I look forward to catching up with you all at Acquaintance Night, if not before.
