Ancient Oaks LZ
For the past seven years the Oak
Ridge Marsh Conservation Group
has been preserving the natural
beauty of Lake Zurich by restoring
the oak woodland and wetland at the
Oak Ridge Marsh Nature Park. We are
now expanding our work to include other
natural areas in Village properties. Volunteers are needed
for these projects. Our work is year round and includes such
activities as cutting buckthorn and other invasives, pulling
weeds, picking and spreading native seed. For more details
about our work, how to volunteer, and contact information,
go to www.ancientoakslz.org.
Community Events Marquee
The Lake Zurich Park and Recreation Community
Events Marquee is available for rental on a weekly basis.
Organizations can advertise upcoming events for a $60 fee.

Leave No
Child Inside
The Village of Lake
Zurich Park and Recreation
Department supports Leave No Child Inside, a Chicago
Wilderness Initiative to get more kids to spend more time
outside. The Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights is a list of
ten activities that every child should have the right to do,
and we want to make it possible for every kid to experience
these activities. Almost every Park Department program
fulfills one or more of the Children’s Outdoor Bill of
Rights; come join us outside! For more information on the
Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights, visit kidsoutside.info.
Park Memorial Programs
There are several ways that you can remember someone
and improve your neighborhood or community park. The
Village of Lake Zurich offers a memorial program for trees
and benches. For information, call 847-438-5146.
•Trees - The “Giving Tree” program is for those who want
to commemorate a date, person, event or organization. All
trees are planted in Village Parks with a memorial plaque.
•Benches - A memorial park bench can be donated at any
of our park sites. Honor a loved one and enhance the
usage of your neighborhood or community park.

The Great Boodini Presents Monthly Magic
Introducing...Award Winning Magician, Juggler, Card Trick
Expert and Balloon Artist, The Great Boodini! Learn from
the expert on how to perform many magic tricks over the
course of just one month.
Each student will receive a deck of cards, a set of styrofoam
cups, envelopes to repeat the prediction trick, and small
objects for the vanish. This magic kit will be given to the
students at the end of each lesson to make sure they have
the props they need for the 1 hour lesson.
WEEK 1 - The Vanish: Students will learn one of the basics
of Street Magic...vanish an object like a coin, a sponge or
a ping pong ball right in front of someone. This requires
beginner’s level dexterity, once learned it can be used in
any setting with a number of different objects.
WEEK 2 - The Prediction: An envelope sits on the
table. A spectator chooses a card. The card is chosen
randomly. Amazingly, the envelope contains a piece of
paper predicting the chosen card. This requires no skill.
Students will learn an amazing card trick (which looks
like mind reading), and will also learn the importance of
presentation, directing the audience, and speaking with the
audience.
WEEK 3 - The Mystery of the 3 Cups: This classic of Street
Magic is presented with a new twist, using styrofoam cups.
This effect does not require a lot of skill, and builds on
some of the skills taught in weeks 1 and 2, including the
basic vanish and presenting a trick to an audience.
WEEK 4 - The Mind Bender: Using an ordinary deck of cards,
a spectator chooses a card, replaces it in to the deck, and the
student will then deal out a pile of cards. What happens next
will amaze even a sophisticated audience, as the student
announces that the next card that they turn over will be the
chosen card, and amazingly, that’s exactly what happens.

Pre-Karate (4-12 years old)
Karate is one of the best ways to encourage self-esteem. Because it focuses
on selfimprovement, rather than on competition, kids support and learn from
each other. This is a sport that teaches the value of respect, discipline and
perseverance. Children want to focus on energy and feel good about themselves
and their accomplishments.
Youth Karate (5-18 years old)
Karate skills help children build coordination, agility, strength and poise. The
confidence gained through karate also helps foster a strong self-image.
Adult Karate (15 years-adult)
This program offers the highest quality instruction for the student and the
business person. If you would like to develop your agility, stamina and
coordination, join us for our weekly work-outs.
Self-Defense (14 years-adult)
Participants learn and practice a variety of strategies to be better prepared if
faced with uncomfortable, intrusive, or dangerous situations with people they
know as well as with strangers. Physical drills which improve speed, agility,
strength, endurance, and coordination will enhance overall fitness. This class is
designed to be both challenging and fun while learning the necessary skills to
effectively defend oneself.
n On your first day of class, please wear comfortable
fitness clothes. Please see the instructor to purchase
the mandatory uniform and equipment (ranges
from $20-$30).

Yoga –All Levels
AGES: 16+
Let’s take a moment to step away from our busy lives and
dedicate some time to honoring the body, mind, and spirit.
This class is for beginners, as well as those who have been
practicing a while. What to expect? Beginning of class,
breathing and centering, learning to use that breathe to
move the body in and out of the poses as we warm up with
Vinyasa flow, then holding certain poses to gain strength,
as we wind down, stretching with the heat we created, and
then final relaxation, with an optional temple massage. We
practice in dim lighting, great music, for an experience that
allows us to walk away renewed.

Park Watch
Throughout the year, vandalism becomes quite an issue in
our parks. Graffiti and destruction of village park property
costs everyone.
While walking our trails, driving by or using our parks,
we strongly encourage anyone that witnesses an act of
vandalism being committed to call the Lake Zurich Police
Department non-emergency number at 847-438-2349
immediately and report it.
No Pets in Park
If you notice vandalism already committed or park
equipment in need of repair, please feel free to call us at
847-438-5146 and let us know. We want our parks to be
clean, safe, and appealing. Thank you for your cooperation
and support.
Just a reminder, our parks are designed for people, but not
their pets. For the safety, convenience, and enjoyment of
all, NO PETS are allowed in neighborhood parks. This is for
all park playgrounds, fields, courts, pathways, parking lots,
and open space areas.
