No: V2-11-10 CAMPUS: Business school Nilai University College Established in 1997, Nilai UC's School of Business is well known for its strict academic standards. Like all well-known academic institutions, the School is keen to emphasise the high standards that it maintain. Classes are small which is ideal for best interaction between lecturer and student and effective academic supervision of projects. This allows for more time to be invested in students to ensure that you not only pass but excel at your courses. At the same time also, it allows us to continuously upgrade our programmes and work closely with other academic and industry partners. Some of these efforts are reflected in the Nilai UC blueprint for success- something only available at Nilai UC. We have seen our students graduate and go on to excel in public accounting firms such as KPMG, Ernst and Young, BDO and many others. It is a heartwarming reward to read their feedback, some of which are shared with you here. “Our Graduates Have Excelled” Chan Jun Hwa, Melissa Low and Kamenii Purushothaman, (L-R) B.A. (Hons) in Accounting & Finance, Class of 2006 “I find the subjects such as theory of finance and fundamentals of finance particularly useful. I have a good grasp of financial instruments and terminology that we use in the day-to-day work of corporate recovery. This strong background has also made it easier to pick up new theories and ideas when learning on the job.” Chan Jun Hwa “The degree has given us a solid foundation to build on. The modules focused on teaching us to apply the theory we learnt through presentations and practical assignments. It has been an enriching three years. We may have graduated young, but the college has ensured that we are fully equipped to meet any challenge the working world can throw at us.” Melissa Low “I absolutely love this place, with all the greenery it often feels like I am staying at a resort, especially on rainy days. Our command of English was always emphasised in and out of class at Nilai UC. These communication skills were an asset during the interviews and now at work where we interact with clients frequently. This course has given me a solid foundation which drives me to excel in my career in accounting.” Kamenii Purushothaman O ” Our EXPERIENCE@NILAI UC… Jillian Tan Sue-Im, B.A. (Hons) Business and Marketing Management “ Nilai UC gave me a lot of freedom. I had the opportunity to learn and explore many things – in and out of the classroom. I had the opportunity to really find myself before I stepped out into the working world and I think that I am most grateful to Nilai UC for that. “ Chen Kam Lai, B.A. (Hons) Business and Marketing Management “ My study experience was a good blend of theory and practical skills. The theory prepared me for project management while practical skills prepared me for the people management aspect of work. As for people still deciding whether or not to come, I highly recommend it. Nilai UC offers the perfect campus environment. Don’t take my word for it, come see for yourself. “ Faizal Ismail, B.A. (Hons) in Marketing & Management Nilai UC's Lion Dance Club which allowed me to experience an out of the ordinary activity as well as “getI joined to immerse myself in a different culture. I like the way Nilai UC places emphasis on both academic and extra-curricular activities. The former helps students build co-ordination skills, self-discipline and promote inter-cultural understanding. Nilai UC certainly made my university experience a complete and fulfilling one. “ Tran Thi Thanh Van, B.A. (Hons) Business and Marketing Management “ Having enjoyed the entire student experience at Nilai UC, I find it truly fulfilling being able to share this educational option with my fellow countrymen (in Vietnam). ” Eileen Tan Yan Yee. B.A. (Hons) Business and Marketing Management Studying at Nilai UC gave me the opportunity to be actively involved in on-campus “activities where I develop a passion for people. Today I have a chance to live this passion by assisting students in finding a course that best meets their individual needs. I find that I perform better at my job, as I am able to give students first-hand information on the quality of programmes and services. “ Note: Eileen Tan is an education counsellor at Nilai UC. Carol Lucia Alfred, B.A. (Hons) in Business & Management Before setting foot into Nilai UC, I thought that running for the country was what I do best but “Nilai UC opened many doors for me to explore. I found out that I could act in dramas, activities and become a more confident speaker.“ Note: Carol Lucia is a former national athlete. Nilai UC's Foundation Programme will fast track you towards the business degree of your choice. The Headstart programme is provided FREE to all Foundation students to help you adapt to life in a university college campus. This is another initiative by Nilai UC designed for your academic & social well-being. At Nilai UC, We Care. … Professor Janet Beer Vice -Chancellor Oxford Brookes University, UK “ We are very pleased with the degree programme developed by NIlai University College. The curricula of these degrees ensure that students will have the knowledge, skills and attitudes that make them valuable members of society. These degrees have not only met the stringent requirements of Malaysian Qualifications Agency, but also exacting academic and quality standards of Oxford Brookes University . ” Recognition from the No1 new University in the UK Having an education that is accepted in Malaysia and globally is an added advantage. Obtaining an equal award from the No 1 new university in the UK is what our students stand to benefit from our high education standards. Our specially formulated curricula are recognised by the Oxford Brookes University UK and as a result, graduates of Nilai UC degree programmes will get dual awards - one from Nilai University College and another award of equal standing from Oxford Brookes. These awards represent the fact that two universities independently recognise your qualification. KHOO KEAN KEAT on the 15th August 2009 has been awarded the degree of BACHELOR of BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION with First Class Honours in Finance on the fifteenth day of August 2009 The Nilai UC BLUEPRINT for SUCCESS 1 in a aysi ST A great deal of effort is put into developing programmes that will give Nilai UC students the edge over other applicants for the same jobs. Captains of industry, Mal chief executives of regulatory bodies and academicians from several foreign and local universities were consulted. The emphasis of all we consulted was that employable graduates are those who are both academically competent and socially confident. What resulted was a blueprint for success unique only to Nilai UC featuring the following key elements: - i. Strong Core Competency Subjects Three quarters of your modules will be on the specialisation that you choose. Specially-crafted International standard forward-looking modules will give you the high level technical skills you require. These modules are divided into basic, intermediate and advance modules to facilitate your progress from one level to the next. ii. Synoptic Modules Synoptic modules help develop creative thinking. The synoptic paper is a concept based on self-reflection. It builds on what you have studied in the semester and gives you the opportunity to review the acquired knowledge. You will be expected to integrate, apply, extend and critique what you have learnt in order to help you appreciate the different components within an environment. This very important exercise is key to training students to be self-sufficient in the corporate world. iii. University Courses For the first time in Malaysia, you will be given a value-add insight into other relevant subjects such as ethics and social responsibility, professional development, public speaking, critical thinking, anthropology, psychology, sociology, philosophy and entrepreneurship. iv. Co-curriculum A holistic education in which academic achievements are complemented by developments in other areas of a students’ life. Co-curricular activities are an integral part of this total education as it helps develop self-discipline, self-confidence and leadership, prepare you for employment and to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing world. v. Internship Internship enables students to gain the necessary know-how of the industry. It is an excellent opportunity for you to experience the real-world. Internship also gives employers a chance to identify and pick out prospective employees.
