CHARITY OF THE MONTH
#3468
“People Helping
People”
Ji mmy Du r a n t e
Children ’s F u n d
In 1966, the Eagles began a Children’s
Fund for Aeries & Auxiliaries to provide grants
to organizations across the United States and
Canada dedicated to aiding and educating
youth.
Each year, children’s hospitals, child abuse
prevention organizations and countless other
groups dedicated to improving the lives of
our youth change the lives of millions with the
help of The Fraternal Order of Eagles. We
are People Helping People and through the
Children’s Fund, we work to ensure the spirit of
our organization lives on for future generations.
During the 2011- 2012 fraternal year, members
of the F.O.E. contributed $415,542.09 to the
Children’s Fund.
For his countless years of service to
The Fraternal Order of Eagles, the Eagles’
Children’s Fund was named in honor of
legendary entertainer Jimmy Durante in 1966.
The man who did it all “For Da Kids” was a
staple at F.O.E. gatherings and performed at 14
consecutive International Conventions free of
charge until his death in 1980. His kind, gentle
and hilarious demeanor inspired members to
give back and make a difference in the lives of
children everywhere.
In addition to the general Children’s Fund,
the F.O.E. Charity Foundation also features
funds dedicated to the prevention of child abuse
and building AIDS awareness.
Founded in 1898, The Fraternal Order of
Eagles has a dedicated history of working hard
to make our communities better, safer places
for all. Our Charity Foundation funds research
for diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease,
Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, spinal cord injuries,
cancer, and aid for neglected and abused
children and the aged.

Sisters and
Brothers,
March is a month of advancing
forward, moving ahead, and
emphasis our growth. This is
exactly what we have been doing
and will continue to strive for at
#3468. I cannot adequately express
my gratitude to our members
for all they have done while still
remaining active to help our Aerie
and Auxiliary grow. There are too
many names to mention, so please
accept my HUGE THANKS, you
know who are and this is for you!
As I mentioned last month,
February is the month of purification
and love. We did exactly that. We
highlighted the Valentine holiday
with a “Night in Paris” theme event,
supporting Max Bear Heart Fund.
What an amazing evening it was
too! The Aerie was decorated with
romance in the air. I want to thank
Marina and Mark Kwiatkowski
for their hard work in making the
event such a success. I hope
everyone enjoyed themselves as
much as I did. May love continue
in everyone’s hearts!
I also want to congratulate
Carrie and Brian Atwell on their
50th Anniversary. What an amazing
milestone in a couple’s life to
celebrate. I will be celebrating 11
years in May and I hope to be
fortunate enough to celebrate the
same with family and friends in 39
years. Thank you to their children
for putting together this event as it
will remain a memory for so many!
This event not only celebrated a
couple’s lifetime together; it also
benefited the Max Bear Heart
Fund.
The
entire family is amazing in their
continued support for one another,
but also in their unwavering
commitment to the Fraternal Order
of Eagles. They are always giving
back and helping to support with
full hearts!
Another
family
deserving
of our gratitude is the Chaffin
family. This is a couple with four
teenagers at home and they are
actively involved with the Aerie,
the JOE, and of course Karaoke.
They searched out a place for their
family - children included - to feel
welcomed and to serve and help
others. As I watch them teaching
their children about giving back
and working hard, I am constantly
impressed by Mike and Kelley.
Great parents! They are friends
I cherish. Their kids continue to
amaze me with their ongoing
willingness to be of assistance
around the Aerie. No job is too
big, too small, or too menial. If you
haven’t already, when you see
them at the Aerie, make sure you
thank them for all they do.
Lastly, I cannot end without
mentioning our State Visitation.
I’ve attended a many visitations
the past several years and I must
say, I couldn’t be more proud of
our visitation. Thank you to Mark
and Donna for being great MCs,
providing laughter throughout
the event, keeping it uplifting and
comical. Thank you to our JOE
stepping up for their biggest event
by efficiently and graciously serving
dinner and also selling baked
goods for our dessert station. Your
efforts successfully raised money
for your regalia, which by the way
was over $455 that evening. The
Auxiliary
has
already placed the order for their
regalia. I cannot wait for the regalia
to arrive so the JOE may use official
regalia for their meetings to further
enhance their understanding of our
ritual. The Aerie was decorated
beautifully.
Special thanks
to Monica and Dave for their
assistance and for helping in the
back serving the plates. Thank you
Mark Hopp who did an amazing job
cooking our meals, which was one
to remember! Of course, I want
to thank, my husband, Jayc, for
staying late the night before helping
to set-up tables and reconfiguring
the Aerie Social Room for the
event. He also ensured our Past
President photos were hung up to
represent the history of our Aerie
home. What a sight to see! Also,
I am most proud to share, our
Auxiliary passed our State Audit
and our Auxiliary is one of the top
5% producers in the State. This
is something I didn’t expect, and
was very proud and honored to
hear State Madam President make
the announcement during State’s
presentation. I know I am probably
missing others to thank, but please
know, this event was fabulous and
definitely a visitation to remember
for so many!

pres
Greetings
Brothers and
Sisters,
Spring is upon us, and
before we know it, we’ll be
hearing the phrase “but it’s
a dry heat” a few thousand
times a day. It certainly beats
the alternative of defrosting
your car for a half hour to go
to work, right?
Brothers and Sisters, we
continue to fight the good fight
against the daily challenges
that face us. There are two
kinds of people in this world:
those who throw the dirt, and
those who grab the shovel.
I’m happy to be a part of
the “shovelers”, because
those who throw the dirt will
eventually get mud all over
them.
As you know, thanks to an
“anonymous” phone call to
the City of Mesa, we’ve been
ordered to stop offering food
in our Aerie until our kitchen
is complete. I’m sure you also
noticed we currently are short
on the necessary funds to
complete the aforementioned
kitchen. We’ve been fortunate
enough to receive a few
donations towards completing
the work that needs to be
done, but more is needed.
In the coming days, we will
be establishing a “Go Fund Me”
account on www.gofundme.
com to hopefully help us raise
money for our kitchen. It’s
simple, you will be able to
go onto the website, see our
page, and donate whatever
you would like, $1, $5, $10 or
any amount you wish. Every
little bit makes a difference.
An email will be sent once
the account is set up, and
you receive the information,
please share it with whomever
you like. Your donation may
remain anonymous, if you so
choose. Remember, being
able to offer our members
meals helps us raise money
for charities, which is the
reason the Fraternal Order of
Eagles exist.
Special thanks as always
to the Junior Order of Eagles,
for continuing to grow their
membership, and continuing
to contribute nothing but
positivity to our Aerie. I’m so
proud of every one of them,
and you should be too. They
deserve your sincere praise.
Two last things: in our
March Aerie meetings, the ByLaws and House Rules will
need to be revisited. Errors
were made in the process the
first time around, and that’s
my fault, my apologies to all
for having to do them over.
Finally, March 12th we
will hold a joint meeting
for all Aerie and Auxiliary
members to attend. This will
not be a planning meeting,
just a meeting for all who
wish to attend so we may go
over some of the topics the
Auxiliary and Aerie would like
everyone’s input on. Bring
ideas and positivity, because
that is the only way we move
forward. Negativity just spins
the wheels.
Have a great March.
Fraternally,
Jim Schmiedeberg

committee
The Building Fund Raising
Committee is accepting pledges
and donations for the “Founders
Circle.”
The “Founders Circle” is made
up of donors who donate $400.00
or more to the Building Fund each
year.
Circle members are eligible to
receive up to 2 (two) free Friday
night dinners for 25 (twenty-five)
Friday nights per year.
February was a fantastic
month for the Junior Order
of Eagles. We started out
on the very first day with a
bang! February 1st was the
State Visitation for the Aerie
and Auxiliary. The older JOE
members served dinner
and the younger members
ran the bake sale. Between
all members stepping up to
assist, the State officers,
others in attendance, and
our local Aerie and Auxiliary
members were impressed by
everyone within our JOE. It
was apparent by the amount
of money we raised in one
evening, over $455 dollars.
A real leader knows when
to step back and let others
take control. State Visitation
was Michael Chaffin’s, Junior
Vice President’s, day to
shine. He really took control
of the serving assignment.
Meagan
Schmeideberg,
Junior
Conductor,
was
another great leader for
the bake sale. This month
we also increased our
membership
and
filling
vacant officer positions. I am
very proud of the JOE and
look forward to other great
things we are going to do.
