Orange Coast College has had
their own hassles over Angela
Davis this month. On Monday,
October 13th, Joseph Kroll, the
Dean of Student Activities, announced that Barry Weinbergand
Jack Vaugn were suspended for
the rest of this semester for
their continued advertising of an
Angela Davis appearanceon their
campus after it was cancelled.
In HANK, a new off- campus
publication,BarryWeinberg gave
the background for events leading up to and following a rally
on Friday, October 10th.
"SDS invited Angela Davis to
speak on campus, which was
okayedby the administration until they found out who she was.
He (the president of the college)
then vetoed her talk for four
as to why Angela Davis was not
going to be allowed to speak.
They got their chance. But we
were interrupted by muscled re-
actionaries.
"HANK: Now what about the
suspensions?
"Barry: Today Jack Vaughnand
Ilearned that we were suspended
because of 'false advertising'
which we can prove is a false
charge. Tomorrow (Tuesday) the
student council is supposed to
meet at 2:00 to discuss their
position on our suspensions. Also, SDS is trying to raise consciousness about what the suspensions mean not only to us
but to free speech and academic
freedom on campus."
The rally which was called by
the SDS was approved; however,
