A gift from the Statler Foundation in 1948 enabled the construction of a building dedicated to the program, and in 1950 Hotel Administration became a school of its own. The Statler Inn, with 52 guestrooms and two restaurants, opened as the world’s first teaching hotel. In 1989, Cornell unveiled the $45 million, nine-story Statler Hotel and J. Willard Marriott Executive Education Center. The Statler’s 153 guest rooms were completely renovated in 2010, in a collaborative project that utillized the expertise of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and industry partners. Through the Hotel Leadership Development Program, we ensure the quality of your stay while offering students an opportunity to gain valuable management experience and professional growth. Each semester, a select group of Cornell School of Hotel Administration students works alongside experienced mentors in part-time, paid positions in the hotel. As practicum meets practice, they work through a series of challenging positions, interacting with employees and guests alike, and gaining the knowledge they need to propel them into their careers. The School and Hotel are an integrated whole, creating a distinctive educational experience for our students and delivering a unique brand of hospitality for our guests. “As a hotel school graduate from 1979, the professionalism of the students and the hotel staff is superb and gets better, if possible, at each stay. I will only stay at the Statler when back on campus.” -- Jim Horn C67508_TXT.indd 8 11/11/10 7:05:56
