Receive your 2016 property tax bill by email!
We are pleased to announce that our state lawmakers passed a law in 2015 that allows property
tax bills to be sent electronically, replacing, when requested, the paper tax bill sent by first class
mail.
“It’s quick and easy to sign up,” said Tax Commissioner Richard Steele. “And you’ll receive your
property tax bill securely by email, rather than receiving a paper bill through the mail.”
If you own property in Gwinnett County and wish to receive your property tax bill electronically,
do the following:

Visit our website at GwinnettTaxCommissioner.com and click the Go Paperless button on
the homepage.

Annual Notices of Assessment
By now you should have received your Annual Notice of Assessment from the Board
of Assessors. It does include an estimated total this year, but it is not a tax bill.
The notice informs you of the value assessed on your residential or
commercial real estate property as of January 1, 2016. If you do
not agree with the notice value, you may appeal your value
during the appeal period, which begins from the date on your
notice and ends 45 days later.

Join us for
Relay Festivities!
There are several events coming up to support the fight against
cancer in our county! Join our team (the Gwinnett Tax Team) and
Relay for Life Gwinnett for the following activities:
• April 23, 10am - 2pm - Relay Family Fun Day
Bring the kids for interactive attractions, activities, food and the firstever Relay Bus Pull! In the parking lot of the Gwinnett Chamber.
• May 8 -13 - Paint Gwinnett Purple Week
Create awareness via the color purple - seen on people, homes,
businesses, schools and places of worship. Purple everywhere!
• May 13 - 14, start at 6pm - Relay Night
Join our team and hundreds of others for Relay for Life Night at the
Gwinnett County Fairgrounds in Lawrenceville! There’s lots of food,
entertainment, games and of course, lots of fun.
Proof of Residency Requirements
New residents moving to Gwinnett County from out of state are required to provide a valid Georgia driver’s license or
Georgia ID card with the current Gwinnett address before a license plate can be issued.
New residents moving to Gwinnett from another Georgia county must provide one of the following:
• A valid Georgia driver’s license or Georgia ID card with the current Gwinnett address
OR
• The valid Georgia driver’s license or Georgia ID card can have the owner’s
former Georgia address as long as the owner has one of the following
documents, dated within one year, with their name and current Gwinnett
address:
- Utility bill
- Lease/rental agreement
- Bank statement
- Closing papers
- Voter registration card (must show residential address)

Can Use
Changing Your Name Due to Marriage
Q. I recently got married and changed my name - do I need to change my car registration?
A. Yes. First of all, congratulations! No doubt you will be busy changing your name in many places, and
your car registration and title is no different. If you’re a Gwinnett resident, you can get this done at any
one of our five tag offices. Here’s what you will need:

Georgia Title Application
(Form MV-1)
This form needs to be completed and signed by each owner listed on the
title.
Marriage certificate
A certified copy is required.
Current title for the
vehicle
• The title - whether Georgia or out-of-state - must have the name of the
person requesting the name change on it. If the Georgia title has been
lost, a replacement title can be applied for with the name change as long
as there is a current/valid vehicle registration.
• Titles are required for model years 1986 and newer.
Release of lien or
security interest(s)
• Liens or security interests shown on the current title must be released
for the name change to be processed.
• A lien may be released on the front of the title in the Release of
Lien section or by using an original Lien Release form (T-4), which is
completed by the lienholder.
• If any lien is not satisfied, the owner needs to contact the lienholder to
request the name change on the title.
Titled owner’s valid
Georgia driver’s license
or Georgia ID card
• Each owner listed on the title must provide one of these forms of
identification. If an owner is unable to visit a tag office in person, a legible
photocopy of their driver’s license or ID is acceptable.
• Identification must show the name change. For more information about
changing a name on your driver’s license or ID, visit www.dds.ga.gov.
Also note the following:
• There is an $18 fee to change a name on a title.
• If you are the first-titled owner on the Georgia title and you have a license plate
already issued in your former name, you can keep the same plate and your new
registration will show the name change.
