ADDITIONAL ATTACHMENTS • • Updated May Calendar Updated April Calendar The complete City Limits document can be found on the City’s website at: http://ci.waseca.mn.us/thecity-limits-weekly-managers-report/ FOR IMMEDIATE REALEASE: April 15, 2016 Tink Larson Field Grandstand Information & Clarifications For a little bit over a week now the Waseca community has been seeking to understand the reason for the fire that consumed the Tink Larson Field Grandstand on April 6th, and to determine what comes next for the historic structure. While searching for these answers there are a lot of questions in the community, and a lot of misinformation. My hope is that I can help answer some of those questions and clear up some of the confusion. First, the State Fire Marshal and the Waseca Police Department are still investigating the cause of the fire. There is a great deal of information and leads still coming in with each requiring appropriate due diligence. I would urge those following the investigation not to jump to any conclusions or make any assumptions about the cause. We will continue to provide information as we are able. Second, Tink Larson Field and the Grandstand are all owned by the City of Waseca and are covered under the City’s insurance policy. As with any insurance policy we are working with our provider through the claims process to make sure the City is reimbursed for all eligible costs. While the City does have insurance it is unlikely that it will cover the full cost of rebuilding the Grandstand. The appraised value of the Grandstand is less than what the value of a brand new facility is, and when taking into account constructing a building that meets current building codes and accessibility requirements the City is confident the cost to rebuild the structure similarly to what stood before the fire will exceed the insurance value. Third, the Waseca community is seeing an outpouring of support from people and businesses across the state. City representatives are in contact with many of these businesses and individuals, and ask that those wanting to contribute time, money, services, etc. to the rebuilding of the Grandstand go through the City of Waseca. The City has partnered with BEST of Waseca County, a 501(c)3, to collect donations for the reconstruction of the facility. Donations can be made through the City’s website at: http://ci.waseca.mn.us/tink-larson-fieldgrandstand-donations/, information on where to make in-person contributions or mail in contributions can be found on the website as well. Finally, the City is working quickly to put in place a process to rebuild the Tink Larson Field Grandstand. Staff has met with architects and engineers to get a preliminary assessment of the project undertaking and will be presenting a timeline and several options for the process that will be used to determine what the reconstructed facility will look like. These options will be presented to the City Council at their April 19th City Council meeting. In whatever option the Council pursues there will be an opportunity for significant public and stakeholder input into the design of the new facility. I would like to thank everyone for their patience as we work through the cause of the fire and what will come next. We are aware of the level of interest in both sides of this incident and are working quickly to bring one to a conclusion and to begin the process for the other. With the continued support and interest of the community the rebuilding of the Tink Larson Field Grandstand will not only be a reminder of the community’s past, but also a testament to its current resilience and character for years to come.
