For the most part of Southeast Alaska, accessible only by boat or plane, the Inside Passage is a lifeline to the outside world. Day 4: Ketchikan: Misty Fjords on request – the third day of cruise This port is famous for its rich native culture, salmon fishing and spectacular Misty Fjords. Ketchikan, which is built over the water and “climbs” up like a stairway, clings to the shores of Tongass Narrows. In addition to major attractions – Creek Street, the Tongass historical Museum, Totem Bight State Park and Saxman Village, a breathtaking trip to Misty Fjords is not to be missed. These deep-water fjords, formed by "reduced" glaciers are edged by granite rocks which tower up for hundreds of feet above the sea. The countless waterfalls on these rocks offer unforgettable performances. Day 5: Juneau-Other Excursions upon request - the fourth day of cruise Enjoy full day of exploring the capital of Alaska. You can choose from many exciting shore excursions or have some time for shopping. Located at the foot of a mountain, on Gastineau channel, the town of Juneau is at walking distance from the massive Mendenhall glacier and the impressive Juneau Icefields. The days are very long and adventure has no limits. Day 6: Skagway Quinto - the fifth day of cruise Go back in time, to the glorious days of the gold rush and then go shopping. You can travel on the same narrow railway used by miners that runs between high cliffs to get an idea of how it must have been like at the times of gold rush. You can visit every small store, appropriately named, such as "Trail Bench" or "Lynch & Kennedy's Dry Goods". The "Red Onion Saloon", with its "honky tonk" pianist and its waitresses dressed in costumes, is a veritable museum of memorabilia, with portraits of the period’s characters. To complete the picture of those roaring days, visit the nostalgic museum "Trail of '98". The restored buildings and wooden walkways of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park invite you to take a walk into the past. Day 7: Glacier Bay, the sixth day of cruise Enjoy this beautiful 8-hour cruise along ice fjords of this national treasure, following to the explanations of a Park Service Ranger. As a world heritage site, the Glacier Bay National Park protects a unique ecosystem of plants and animals that live in concert with an everchanging glacial landscape. How does it feel when a chunk of ice breaks off a glacier and crashes into the sea? The noise is as of thunder. The impact throws water for hundreds of metres into the air. It takes your breath away as you catch the moment on the film. And then everything is expected to repeat. And it does, regularly. At Glacier Bay there are more "tide water" glaciers active in "calving" than in any other place in the world. Day 8: College Fjord, the seventh day of cruise Only one place in Alaska is surrounded by ice rivers from 3 sides. Imagine sailing through one glacier after another – an awesome assemblage of glacial wonders. Wait here for an in-depth lesson on the power of nature. Harriman expedition which discovered the College Fjord in 1899 was funded by Ivy League College. All the glaciers of College Fjord were named in honor of various schools. The glaciers on the left are named after the female college and those on the right are named after the male college.
