What a difference a month makes. We hit 60º F in our area last week for the first time since midNovember last year, so it is starting to feel a lot closer to sailing season. Last Tuesday I left on a trip to
Charleston, SC, with a stop in Atlanta and was snowed into the Atlanta airport for 8 hours. I guess we
are not the only ones to suffer through a long cold winter!
At the Board of Governors meeting on 3/4/10 we discussed the final scheduling of the social and
racing programs which will be listed in the Mainsheet and on the NSA web site. The slip exchange
meeting was held on Sunday, March 7th with a soup cook-off afterwards and there were many in attendance. Also, the Commodore Elect had a meeting with the work committee chairmen just before the
slip exchange meeting to organize and relay expectations for the 2010 work credit program.
Because of the Perry Yacht Club fire (caused by lightning) that destroyed their clubhouse last year,
we put together a Fire Protection Committee to help identify ways we can protect our NSA assets and
keep us safer. Our Property Manger has also met with the Cheney Fire Chief at NSA, who was pleased
with the facility in general, but had some practical recommendations to help our cause. We have purchased a lightning protection system for the Afterdeck which will be installed soon and have added
fire extinguishers to strategic locations. He also recommended installing a dry-hydrant that uses lake
water that can help them fight a fire at the slips or Afterdeck. Things that club members can do to help
include not storing flammable or combustible liquids in the dock boxes. This includes charcoal lighter
fluid and gasoline/diesel fuel which is prohibited for storage in dock boxes in the NSA rules. If you
have a yard space, you can keep the grass closely cut to eliminate fuel for a grass fire. We are also
considering a rule of no charcoal fires within 25‘ of the Afterdeck. Also, special care should be taken
when using the cooking appliances in the Afterdeck to make sure they are turned off after use and
combustible materials are kept safe distances from them.
As always, I invite all of you to the monthly Board of Governors meetings which are held the first
Thursday of each month at 7:00 P.M. at the Airport Hilton Board Room (at this time). There is a member/guest forum at the beginning of each meeting, or simply come and see what is going on with the
management of the club.

* Yard space Maintenance
Yard spaces need to be maintained through the winter months. Mark your trailers, keep air in the tires,
check your boats, secure loose halyards, close gates and lock unoccupied yards.
* Security
Almost every Sunday afternoon there have been gates left open. Please remember to check the gates when
you are the last to leave the yards or docks. How often do you leave the front door open on your home
when you are away?
* Proof of Insurance
If you lease a slip or yard space NSA requires that you provide insurance information which we all did when
we signed the lease agreements. However, if your insurance agent, company or policy information has
changed, please send the correct information in or send an email to the administrativesecretary@ninnescah.org.

- The minutes of February meeting were approved as published.
Property Managers Report
- Adams reports the Bald Eagles were late this
year but they are also late in leaving. He encourages members to take the opportunity to view
them before they leave.
Administrative Secretary Report
- Johnson reports being ready for the slip exchange this Sunday, March 07th. Delinquent annual dues continued to come in during February
and he encourages delinquent members to contact
Allen or any Board Member if payment arrangements are needed.
Member / Guest Forum
- 2010 Regatta Chairman, Simpson is making
plans for club Regattas.
Secretary Report – None
Treasurer Report
- Couch presented the Statement of Financial
Position for the month ended February 28, 2010
and it was accepted as presented by the board.
Couch continues to assist in Treasurer duties in
Mosley‘s absence. As a reminder to members, the
club is required by Reno County to conduct a
marina survey of boats twice a year, on January
1st and July 1st. This report lists members name,
address, boat make and length.
Yardmaster Report
- Gronniger reminds everyone to regularly
check their boats, tiedowns, trailer tires, and lock
the gates when leaving.
Harbormaster Report
- Kramer reports members were happy with the
zebra mussel/bottom paint article and a suggestion has been made to author one on which cell
phone service works best in and around the club.
This will be available sometime in the future. As
weather permits tree and brush will be trimmed
from Adams jetty.
Operations Report
- Randle discussed the 2010 Social and Special
Events Calendar. He encourages members to vol-
unteer as Committee Chairpersons or helpers by
calling him for the many events coming up. He will
meet with various members after the slip exchange
to discuss implementation of a new web based ‗ship
store.‘
Vice Commodore Report
- Cheatum - absent
Past Commodore Report
- Graves reports several afterdeck bookings for
weddings this summer. The crane committee continues to gather information.
Commodore Elect Report
- Hieger – Addressed the work credit program and
preparing for work credit meeting with committee
chairperson to be held just prior to the slip exchange
meeting in the Afterdeck.
New Business:
- March 2010 Slip transfer Gibson (B7) and Cheatum (B37) was submitted and approved unanimously.
Old Business:
- Graves reported Crane Committee status.
- Fire Protection Committee made up of Woodward, Kramer, Olsen and Adams have met and fire
prevention strategies were discussed. Adams will
meet with all area fire departments and establish
―Pre-Fire Plans‖ with them.

KBRS is having another social gathering at Players on Wednesday, March 24th. We‘ll be in the
large meeting room, just ask directions. The fun will commence at 5:30pm.
We‘ve had great attendance at these events and would like to invite anyone in the Yacht Club to
come out and talk sailing. Players has a good dinner menu so come out early and have dinner with us.
I‘ve posted a proposed racing schedule to the KBRS web site, www.kbrs.org . The KBRS Spring
Meeting is scheduled for Sunday, April 11th, in the Afterdeck.. Meeting will start at 2pm. Anyone who
is interested in club sailboat racing at NSA is invited to attend. We will have trophy presentation for the
fall series, and discuss the upcoming season. This is a good opportunity to meet the boat skippers and
make connections to crew on a boat if you don‘t race your own.
But, to get enthused about NSA and the coming spring, come out on the 24th and join in the fun!

Jetty Cleanup
On March 6th, a talented crew of NSA members tackled the difficult task of removing brush and limbs
from Adams Jetty, located adjacent to A-dock. As a result, sailors using the crane this spring will not be
hampered by limbs hanging over the channel. The waterway is very open and will still allow those nice
breezes from the North to cool us off this summer. Take an opportunity to look at the progress made, and
if you run into Kent Carter, Ken Solo, Alan Loehr, or Tim Peppard tell them what a nice job they did.

Third Annual NSA Soup CookOff.
A great selection of soups and dessert were presented at the Third Annual NSA Soup CookOff. We had about ten different varieties of soup and a lot of desserts. Winners in the Soup CookOff were:

2) Alexandra Johnson - Chicken Pot Pie Soup
3) Andrew Woodward & Patrick Adams - Wonderful Meatless Chili

Wild Rice Chowder—Jill Coker's winning recipe:
8 bacon strips, diced
1/3C all purpose flour
1 can (14 1/2 oz) chicken broth
2T minced fresh parsley
1/2 Onion
1/2 to 1 t salt
1-1/2C cooked wild rice
1/2 T Hot Shot
4C water
2C (8 oz) cubed process American cheese
In large saucepan, cook bacon until crisp. Remove with a slotted spoon to paper towels. Drain reserving 1 tablespoon drippings. Saute onion in drippings until tender. Stir in flour and salt. Gradually stir in water and broth. Bring to a boil; cook
and stir for two minutes until slightly thickened. Stir in wild rice. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for five minutes. Add the
milk, cheese parsley and bacon; cook and stir until heated through and cheese is melted. Serves 6-8.

RADIO CONTROLLED SAILBOAT REGATTA!
If you are curious about radio controlled sailboats in a competitive atmosphere, or just curious about radio
controlled sailboats, here is your chance to see the real world of remote control sailing.
Come see the first regatta of the season for the Air Capital Model Sailing Club, of Wichita. The club is
throwing its 6th annual Icebreaker Regatta for Seawind class sailboats on Saturday/Sunday, March 20-21,
2010. The venue is Sedgwick County Park (near the Zoo), at Tom Scott Lake in the southwest section of the
park. Feel free to stop by any time during the weekend, and observe the differences and similarities to bigboat sailing. Races get underway at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday till about 3:30 p.m.; and from 9:00 a.m. till noon
on Sunday.

from original owner. Evinrude Saildrive Inboard

Cabin redone in 2003. Jib Furling replaced in 2003
and bottom paint job in 2006 (water based paint from
Action Marine). The boat is currently in dry storage
at El Dorado for the winter with cabin cushions and
sails stored at home. Asking Price $8,000 including
