5th Mille et Une Nuits Classic Tuscany October 12th to 19th 2014 Mille et Une Nuits Classic drove us in Tunisia (2010), Catalonia (2011), Agentina/Chile (2012) and Andalusia (2013). This time we will go to Tuscany. Why Tuscany ? Privileged by gods, Tuscany invented this sweet European way of living which perfectly matches with antic grand tourer cars. Marrying Henry II, Catherine de' Medici brought her fork and her napkin along with tableware unknown to France at this time. Etruscan introduced the wine there and later the famous Chianti of Tuscany was born, softly infatuating people. One whispers it is not unrelated to the Tower of Pisa tilt. Tuscany is nowadays the most extraordinary open sky museum, aligning churches, cathedrals, palaces, villas, monasteries, castles, antic farmhouses, hamlets with squared pigeonholes, medieval villages, jumping from the Etruscan golden age to Romans one, from gothic to Renaissance. And there is nature. There is this verdant countryside in the woodiest region of Italy which goes through subtropical trees and Alps conifers. And what a diversity ! The Apennine Mountains chain which crosses Italy in its center slowly descend over 250 km of Mediterranean coasts sprinkled with vines and cypress, umbrella and maritime pines, corks, holm oaks, rank maquis, olives and with an exceptional ornithological wildlife. At last, there are extraordinary roads winding along the Arno and its tributaries, on the mountainsides, between hills on which wonderful mansions had been erected. This is a place of dreams to organize an antic cars rallye. Where about in Tuscany ? Our headquarters which will be the departure and the end of the rallye couldn’t be anywhere else than Florence, heart of Tuscany ideally served by plane. Worldwide capital of arts, the Medici city is a museum by itself, as well as a shrine for fashion, shopping, goldsmithing, coffeehouses, restaurants and for this famous Tuscany cuisine allying simplicity, sobriety and refinement. In Florence we’ll be staying at Villa San Michele – the equivalent of Cipriani in Venice, a jewel of the prestigious Orient Express chain – on Sunday October 12th (scrutineering) and then on Friday 17th and Saturday 18th for the f inal ( http:// www.villasanmichele.com/web/ovil/villa_san_michele.jsp) You can arrive there sooner if you wish, to breath peacefully and go down to the city with a shuttle of the hotel, a cab or your car. Associating with the Mille et Nuits Classic, the Villa San Michele, whose renovation will be finished this spring, offered us privileged conditions. Erected in a wide and marvelous monastery, surrounded by terrace-gardens, arbors, secret alcoves and gifted with rooms steeped in history, our “villa” owns an incredible panoramic view over Florence situated 5 km below. Our itinerary isn’t totally defined yet, but we can promise you the most beautiful of Tuscany in a loop of approximately 1600 km with countryside, mountains, see and stages ending sometimes in a city, sometimes in the middle of nature. Our forecast itinerary (subjected to possible modifications which wouldn’t change the spirit of the rallye) Sunday October 12th – scrutineering in the gardens of Villa San Michele of Florence. Welcome dinner and night at the hotel. Monday October 13th – Firenze/Lucca (290 km) – first start at 10:00. Lunch at km 150.
