Instead, 15-year-old Cheng Xie is preparing for UBC life Like armed with Canada’s largest science scholarship. 1.1k Xie won’t be driving to campus, but the first-year engineering student will be arriving with $80,000 in the bank. He is the youngest person to win the Schulich Leader award. “It’s a great opportunity, a great way for me to be able to focus on what I love to do, and not have to worry about how these projects I am doing will affect my financial ability.” At 15, Xie has already created an alternative to traditional refrigeration. But he insists he has interests like other teenagers. “I also like music. I’m playing classical guitar. I’ve been playing for two years now, always fun. And I also play Weather basketball.” Vancouver, BC, Canada Xie is also not worried about integrating at UBC, saying most of his peers understand. 9°C Cool.
