Annette Press kit Full Bio Press clippings Press quotations ! ANNETTE Biography Folk/rock singer-songwriter ‘Annette’ has the ability to slip through the keyhole of life to gather up, heart in hand, music and lyrics that touch the soul and jump start the heart. She’s been part of the music scene for over twenty-five years, having worked with groups Folle Avoine and Hart Rouge before embarking on a solo career. Singing in both French and English with her brother and sisters, her work with Hart Rouge spans more than ten years and boasts an impressive list of accomplishments: six albums, several radio hits and many tours across Canada, Europe and the United States. ! Annette then decided to leave Hart Rouge to pursue a solo career and released in 1997 a debut album with Zero Musique Records called “Sauter de Haut.” The album garnered excellent reviews and generated three radio hits that climbed the charts in Québec and French Canada. ! “SAUTER DE HAUT, Annette’s first solo project, is probably the best album released by a female artist in Quebec in years. Annette recounts her experiences with a combination of flair and modesty to make her more than just an interesting writer. Definitely someone to discover.” Laurent Saulnier, Voir Montréal ! She then took some time to change gears, to start a family and to teach. During this time, she hosted Radio-Canada/CBC’s afternoon drive show in Saskatchewan and was chosen for the ‘Artist in Residence’ program for two straight years. With a new perspective and the desire to once again devote herself to music, Annette then came back with her first English album in 2009 called ‘You Gotta Laugh’ and J’peux pas demander mieux (2010). “Annette Campagne returns with her first English album with fabulous results. Heavily influenced by the great folkie singer-songwriters of the 70’s like James Taylor and Carly Simon, Annette takes the genre and makes it all new again. Light funky rhythms, gorgeous melodies and introspective lyrics make this one a winner.” Duke Eatmon, CBC Montreal Her songs have the ability to create a ‘comfortable connectedness’ and a ‘feel good atmosphere’. Her writing is positive, not in a ‘fleur blue everything is wonderful way’, but one based in a faith-infused reality and self-empowering optimism, weaving through life’s paradoxes with a mix of compassion, contemplative detachment and humour leaving one with a refreshing sense of hope and faith. She delivers a mix of contemporary folk, melodic pop and acoustic rock with a sweet and soulful voice. ! ! ! She proves she is the quintessential Canadian artist; the bilingual, straight- shooting poet of a prairie girl who has seen the world but who revels in her prairie roots. She’s the hip, urban musician standing in a field of wheat singing about heartbreak and the thrill of new beginnings; about the refusal to compromise; about fury and forgiveness. Annette’s music is smooth and soulful with a hit of big sky country. It is the work of an artist whose mettle has been tested. Be it through her province wide gospel choir project, or her most recent venture ‘The Girl’s Got Soul’, a vlog mixing ‘soul talk’ with her music, Annette always puts her heart into it. She is already preparing her next album, which will be released in October, 2014. ! ! Quotes: It may be a different tack for Annette Campagne to sing in English - or at least, to sing entirely in English. But the sparkling songwriting that put Hart-Rouge on the map so many years ago puts this allAnglo effort alongside the best of contemporary performers like Shawn Colvin. The hook-filled “Let You Go” is one of the catchiest songs this year. Mark Rheaume, CBC Radio “Annette Campagne returns with her first English album with fabulous results. The music is very very catchy, the guitars, the drums, beautiful melodies that you easily get at- tached to, it’s a ‘feel good’ album that you would listen to in your car! Annette has a beautiful voice! I give this an 8.5 on 10!” Josée Perrier, Monsieur Showbiz ‘This long awaited album makes you feel good and comfortable all at once. The music is great and the lyrics are even better. It makes you want to pack up your car and take a road trip where the <ields are yellow, the sun is hot and the horizon never stops. I love it! This album is on heavy rotation on my ipod, that’s for sure!’ ! Nathalie Bernardin, RDGE ‘The former Hart Rouge singer owned the stage at the Prince of Wales in Assiniboia with con<ident vocals. Also on stage is Annette’s husband, Dave Lowlor on the keyboard, her sister Solange (right) and her brother Paul (on far right). By Pam Mytroen Times Contributor “I like to rock it up a bit,” says Annette Campagne. No kidding. The former Hart Rouge singer owned the stage at the Prince of Wales October 16th in Assiniboia with an ambush on guitar and confident vocals. Her husband Dave Lowlor accompanied on keyboard, revving up her folk style with jazz and blues and walking it back home again to the story-telling melodies. Though growing up in Willow Bunch and singing everywhere with her large family, this was her first time performing in Assiniboia. “I made it big,” she said, sliding into several of her own compositions such as “This Life With You” and “You Gotta Laugh”. With her pure sweet vocals Campagne proved she can wrap her voice around the highs and lows, and her hands around any style she chooses. Campagne invited her sister Solange and her brother Paul to the stage in the second half of her show. An impromptu “Wheat Pool Song” revealed what it was like for her as a child. “Our Dad rented us out.” she said, “We sang at funerals, weddings, Co-op annual meetings, and of course the Wheat Pool Board gatherings.” The audience laughed along with them when they ‘improvised’ some of the words and notes, but enjoyed the taste of her childhood - the harmony and fun that Campagne grew up in. The Hart Rouge trio showed what they’re capable of in “Plant Your Fields”. This call to plant and to pray for rain is like a beautiful beckoning to return home to family and faith. After releasing nine albums, and entertaining audiences in Manitoba, Quebec, the U.S. and Europe, the singersongwriter has returned to her prairie roots and calls Regina home where she parents, teaches, directs a French gospel choir at the university, and performs. Though she’s enjoyed success, Campagne admits that there’s been pain on the journey. She spoke of how she has learned to forgive. “Forgiveness, though we think we’re doing it for the other person, is something we do for ourselves. This heavy burden is lifted from us.” She wrote, “Only Forgiveness Knows,” a meaningful tribute to grace. Did the Assiniboia Community Choir put the moves on Campagne or the other way around? Our Choir showed their true versatility, singing Gospel, “I’m Saved,” and “I get Joy” as background for the lively Campagne. They re- membered their choreography and got the entire audience grooving. “Wow; Amazing; I like her stories” were some of the comments the young people had for Annette Campagne. She’s proof that our province grows and inspires outstanding artists. As premiere concert for the year, Campagne set the tone. Assiniboia is once again privileged to have the Assiniboia Arts Council - sponsored by OSAC, Sask. Lotteries and Conexus - bringing in world class talent to our stage. 2 The Kipling Citizen Kipling, Saskatchewan Kipling Community Choir performs with Campagne Friday, February 18th, 2011 Staff photo by Laura Kish Kipling Community Choir performs with Annette Campagne. by Laura Kish Kipling & District Arts Council held their 3rd of 4 in the Series of Stars For Saskatchewan featuring Annette Campagne on Sunday evening, February 13th to an audience of over 130 including guests coming from all over including Regina, Montmartre, Glenavon, Kennedy, Windthorst as well as from Kipling. Originally from Willow Bunch, Saskatchewan and now living in Regina singer-songwriter Annette Campagne has performed her style of pop-folk-rock music all over the world charming audiences, singing in both French and English. Former music student of Campagne’s, Gent Laird of Saskatoon on upright base has been Annette’s musician off and on for five years. Campagne grew up in Willow Bunch on the family farm until the age of 18, then moved to Winni- peg for 4 years and then on to Montreal for 12 years. Wanting to do something a bit different, she came back to Saskatchewan for what was supposed to be six months. That was until she met her husband, had a son who is now 5, and she stayed for 18 years. She taught in Gravelbourg, was an Artist in residence in Regina. “I started to play guitar at age 10, I wanted to be just like my brother,” says Campagne “I watched him play and I would copy him...I guess you could say I shadowed him.” Annette Campagne has a style all her own which the audience enjoyed very much by the toe-tapping to her music and the audience participation during a few of the songs. Between songs good-natured Campagne also shared many stories, mainly about funny moments in her own life. Speaking with a bit of a French accent she had quite a comical side to her. “I remember the exact moment I wanted to be a singer and entertainer,” she recalls “it was at an Alice Cooper concert.” She then sang an Alice Cooper song “Only Women Bleed”. And of course the evening would not be complete without a little bit of the blues! During the final portion of the evening, the Kipling Community Choir were invited on stage to perform along with Campagne. “I grew up singing in the choir,” explains Campagne therefore in each community where she performs she prearranges for the local community choir to join her on stage and had a very good response in Kipling. “I wish the community success,” says Campagne at the end of the evening and goes on to say “I felt so appreciated through this whole OSAC tour.” ADVERTISING WORKS!
