Mayawati slams

Uttar Pradesh
chief
minister
Mayawati
on
Thursday
hit
back at Congress
general secretary,
Rahul
Gandhi
and the party after the former’s visit to
the epicentre of the land acquisition stir to
support agitating farmers in Greater Noida,
Uttar Pradesh.
At a press conference, Mayawati also
slammed Congress President, Sonia
Gandhi, saying farmers in Rae Bareli should
be compensated for their land that was
acquired for the rail coach factory.
She accused the Congress and other
opposition parties of attempting to disturb
law and order by spreading rumours
on land acquisition and dubbed Rahul
Gandhi’s dharna in Greater Noida as
“mean theatrics”.
Pakistan due to get
$300 mln in U.S. security
reimbursement
Pakistan
is likely to
get
$300
million from
the
United
States
for
costs incurred
in
fighting
militants, officials said on Thursday, at a
time U.S. legislators have been questioning
aid to Pakistan after Osama bin Laden was
found there.
The funds are part of a Coalition
Support Fund (CSF), a U.S. programme
to reimburse countries that have incurred
costs supporting counter-terrorism and
counter-insurgency
operations.
The
United States has reimbursed Pakistan $7.4
billion under the CSF programme since
2001, when Pakistan joined the U.S.-led
campaign against militancy. Funds that
come in through the CSF are not officially
designated as U.S. foreign aid.
ROYAL NEWLYWEDS
Finally Take Honeymoon
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince
William and Kate Middleton have left for a
two-week honeymoon to a secret hideaway
in the Indian Ocean. According to the Daily
Mail the newlyweds will stay in an exclusive
villa that costs €4,600-a-night and is said to be
located on
one of the
most beautiful
and
romantic islands in the
world.
William’s
car was apparently
seen leaving
Anglesey, north Wales, yesterday accompanied
by a police Range Rover piled high with luggage. A spokesman for St James’s Palace said he
would not confirm their honeymoon destination,
although according to reports, the couple may
have headed for the Seychelles.
The country is made up of more than
100 palm-fringed islands and they are believed to have flown out by a private jet
yesterday before being taken by helicopter from
the mainland to the tropical retreat.
The couple have asked that their privacy be
respected during their honeymoon. Two Scotland Yard protection officers checked the destination three weeks ago to ensure it would give
the couple the privacy they crave.

the couple say that John and Bipasha who were
earlier planning to celebrate Valentine’s day
at a five star location in Bandra had to change
the venue at the last minute.John and Bips then
went to a restaurant in Central Mumbai.
John Abraham and Bipasha Basu broke up
after 9 years of togetherness. One of their close
friends says, “Everything was good between
them. And it came as a rude shock to us that
within a few days after Feb 14, they decided to
go their separate ways. It is confusing even for
us.”
The friend continues, “John and Bipasha are
maintaining the same equation with all of us in
their friends circle. It shows that both of them
are mature people. We honestly hope that they
get back together.”
Hope, John-Bipasha are listening.

LADY GAGA SPARKS
FAN FRENZY AT CANNES
PERFORMANCE
The Festival de Cannes went Gaga on opening
night with a performance by Lady Gaga. Fans
from across the globe flocked to the front of
the Hotel Martinez, where she performed on
Canal+’s hit show Le Grand Journal’s live stage.
Gaga sang her new song “Judas” and then took
to the stage for an interview with host Michel
Denisot.
“It’s beautiful, it’s very, very busy, but it’s
really nice to be here,” Gaga said, adding; “It was
so lovely performing near the ocean. I would’ve
liked to have jumped in after the performance!”
She sported a typical outlandish outfit trailed
by a long red fabric plus a gold-embroidered
black costume. Catholic groups are shouting
blasphemy over her hit “Judas”. When asked
whether she believes in God, Gaga responded:
“Of course. I have so much faith. I used the
name Judas as a metaphor.”
When presenter Ali Baddou asked her how
she manages not to go crazy with all of her
success, she said: “I was already crazy!” “I have
to be honest. I am just so grateful that I get to
make music every day and perform every night.
The thing that I didn’t know would happen is
this extraordinary relationship I have with my
fans.”
Her album Born This Way is set to be released
May 23.

A GOLD STAR FOR THIS
SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATION
To kickstart its silver jubilee func-
tion with a bang, the HPY organising
committee
brainstormed
ceaselessly as they
wanted
to
do
things
differently
to mark a
change in the
way things
are
usually
done.
This is because H.P.Y. Organizing Committee led by the Coordinator
Ms. Azmin Mistry, believes and lives
by what Foster once said, “Quality is
never an accident, it is always the
result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligence, direction and skillful execution; It represents the wise
choice of many alternatives.” An
event
of this stature needed a
very committed set of
workers, both behind
the scenes as well as
in the forefront. The
committee didn’t
take long to pin
down the very
best in our community - Mr.
Hormuzd
Khambata.
The
moment they
thought “differently,”
two
things came to
their minds “Broadway”
and “Hormuzd
Khambata.”
Since it
was an HPY Programme, the committee decided that all the performers
must
be
alumni
of the programme and
so
started
gathering all
those who
had excelled
in singing or
dancing in
their respective
years
at
H.P.Y.
The organisers did not
want to restrict performances only
to the alumni and so also extended
its invite to its resource people – Sensei Cawas Billimoria and Ms. Delna
The committee didn’t take

in our community Mr. Hormuzd Khambata.
The moment they thought
“differently,” two things came
to their minds - “Broadway” and
“Hormuzd Khambata.”
Mody. Ms. Delna Mody is a trained
vocalist from Canada and has also
performed in the Sound of Music
production. After excessive auditions and scrutinizing details to suit
the genre, the performers were shortlisted and rehearsals were set into
motion.
All the performers rigorously
rehearsed for over a month at the
Khareghat Colony Hall, to make
sure that the show was a huge success. The Organizing Committee left
no stone unturned to make sure that
the performers were comfortable in
every way possible. Hormuzd was
present for every rehearsal himself.
He, along with his very efficient
and forthcoming assistants Sherzad,
Zeenia and Pashyn promised to put
up a fantastic show.

Singing our Praise!
On the proud and joyous occasion of the completion of 1290 years
of the Parsi Atash Behram –Iranshah burning in Udvada, Mr. Marzban
Dara Mehta composed a song for the celebration! Mrs. Yasmin Charna
conducted the beautiful voices of the girls of Petit Girls School, Bandra,
and the audience clapped heartily along with CM of Gujarat Mr. Narendra
Modi.
Mr. Modi expressed his joy for the music and particularly the clever
wordings of Mr. Mehta by sending him a letter of congratulation.
The letter and the song are with the Parsi Times and we share them

SATURDAY, MAY 14, 2011
Welcome to this brand new section! Each
week we look at different initiatives
across the board that are empowering their
members to be leaders and participants in
life! Whatever their visions and missions
are, there is no doubt that any sort of effort to
put people together and get them motivated
is a big big step in the right direction!
FOZYA FACT-O-FILE
In the last one century, many
Zoroastrian youth bodies were
formed in different cities and
small towns of India. But due to
distances and cultural backgrounds
and differences between metro and
smaller towns, most of these youth
bodies found it difficult to interact
with each other. A brainchild of
Mr.Porus Karanjawalla, THE FEDERATION OF
ZOROASTRIAN YOUTH ASSOCIATIONS (or
FOZYA) was conceived at the first All India Youth
Seminar in New Delhi (1987) and finally formed in
1991 with at The Nagpur Youth Seminar with Mr.
Jehangir Bisney as its founder president.
FOZYA has organised intercity youth meets
between two or three youth bodies across India.
These meets are usually held jointly with youth
bodies at a convenient location in India. FOZYA has
always placed the interests of the Zoroastrian youth
first and foremost and is committed to the interaction
and assimilation of all Zoroastrian youth bodies in
India. It is also committed to the advancement of the
Zoroastrian faith and knowledge amongst the youth,
while maintaining a policy of flavour which respects
the diverse traditions and practices of Parsi and Irani
Zoroastrians in India.
Over these 20 years, FOZYA has
built an outstanding reputation,
which is recognised and respected
by all Panchayats and Anjumans
across India. None of this would
have been possible without the
trust and confidence of members,
donors, supporters and last but not
the least delegates and friends.
FOZYA is open for membership to only Parsi/
Irani Associations all over India. Those cities which
do not have enough youth population to form a youth
association can become a member as a youth body/
organisation of their respective anjumans.
FOZYA has organised and hosted a series of youth
seminars and meets which assessed the needs of the
Zoroastrian youth in India. They have also had many
charitable drives which included distribution of grains,
sadras and kustis to the under-privileged members of
the community. In total 19 youth meets have been
held in the last 19 years of its establishment. This year,
FOZYA will celebrate its 20th year at a very special
event.
Mr. Mabrin Noshir Nanavatti is the current
President of FOZYA
If you are interested in joining them email
teamfozya@gmail.com!
Our Vision
A Community that is a powerful force in meeting common orthodox and
reformist challenges and bringing our youth on a single platform called
FOZYA.
Our Mission
FOZYA works to build a better world by interaction and assimilation of the
Zoroastrian youth who share a common mindset and support Zoroastrianism.
What we believe
FOZYA believes that youths’ involvement in all levels of social and communal
activity is essential.
What we value
FOZYA’s mission is grounded in what we value:
Passion:
FOZYA is committed to making a difference. We strive for what can be; we do
not settle for what is.
As we speak!!
FOYZA has gathered 30
plus members in Goa for
their ‘Forever my Friend
Meet’ where they hope to
focus on creating a personal
interaction platform for
members from across India!
The gang is scheduled to
leave Goa on the 17th after
three days of masti and
learning! FOZYA, we hope
you are having a great
time! Don’t forget to wear
sunscreen and tell us what
happened on the beach!
IN THEIR WORDS:
Respect:
FOZYA listens to and learns from our constituents, partners,
sponsors, and one another. We value diverse perspectives and
strive to incorporate them in our work.
Empowerment:
FOZYA believes in the power of Zoroastrianism and its capacity to
mobilize the youth to create a better today.
Collaboration:
FOZYA works as a team within India and other cities. We share
ideas and try to align our efforts with those of others who are
dedicated to the goals of our religious tenements.
Innovation:
FOZYA seeks original approaches for achieving our goals, taking
advantage of our sacred writings for our outreach.

Udvada is a town in Gujarat, renowned for its Zoroastrian Atash
Behram. This place of worship is the oldest still-functioning example
of its kind, and has established Udvada as a pilgrimage center for
Zoroastrians the world over.Udvada means the ‘grazing ground of
camels’, which it was before it became a fishing village. The Udvada
Atash Behram is the most sacred of the Zoroastrian fire temples in
India and the oldest continuously burning fire-temple fire in the
world. The Udvada Atash Behram is one of nine Atash Behrams
worldwide, eight of which are in western India (four in Mumbai,
two in Surat, one in Navsari, and the one in Udvada), and one of
which is in Yazd, in central Iran.

Plastic bags are not biodegradable even if they say they are,
they do not decompose fully. Also the ink is made up of
cadmium, and is highly toxic when it is released, whereas
paper bags are reusable and biodegradable. However
supermarkets use paper that has never been recycled before
and they always say “recyclable” not “recycled”. Here is
what you can do: if your purchase is small don’t take any
bag, this alone could save hundreds of millions of bags.
Bring a cloth bag when you shop, or use string bags. Not
only should you recycle, but buy products that are recycled.
By purchasing these products, you are helping to conserve
natural resources, and to protect the environment.
AHURA MAZDA’S GIFT TO US
BY ERVAD DR. RAMIYAR KARANJIA
Ahura Mazda is the creator of
every good thing that we see around
us. No evil ever comes from Him. He
has created the whole world with
wonderful creations so that man
can live a happy life with the help of
these creations.
Ahura Mazda created man
superior to other creations, gave
him intelligence and sovereignity
over time. At the same time, He gave
man the responsibility to look after
other creations - air, water, earth,
minerals, plants and animals. Man
should utilise them with wisdom
and temperance, and never misuse or
overuse them.
To each one of us Ahura Mazda
has given a beautiful life. We are
surrounded by loving and caring
people, like our parents, friends and
teachers. He has given us a healthy
body and an active mind, which, if
properly used, can help us achieve
anything in life.

The Following is
an excerpt from
“101 Ways
To Advertise Your
Business”.
I
f your advertisement doesn’t stand out, the effectiveness is dramatically
reduced and so are the end results. Many newspaper readers just scan
their daily paper. Because of this you only have a few seconds to make
your advertisement catch the reader’s attention.
I am a big advocate of bold headings and questions in printed
advertisements. If you ask a question the reader will attempt to answer
it. Questions stand out and they draw a reader’s eye to the advertisement.
Likewise there are many words that can be used to draw attention to an
advertisement.
These can be adapted to suit your business and the products or services
you are selling.
All too often modern design and trendy looks overshadow the desired end
result of an effective advertisement. While I am a lover of quality graphic
design it is important not to lose sight of the objective of the advertisement,
which will generally be to sell something. Whenever you are planning a
newspaper advertisement I suggest getting your designer or newspaper
to give you a copy of the advertisement so you can put it on a page in a
newspaper to see how well it stands out.
The paper your advertisement will be printed on is probably better than
the quality of the newspaper you will be comparing it against but you will
still be able to get a feeling for how the advertisement will look in the final
product. This is an excellent way to determine if your advertisement is likely
to catch attention or simply blend in with the other information on the page,
generally meaning that it will not work.

The unison of the H.P.Y. Organizing Committee, Hormuzd Khambata’s troupe as well as HPY alumni
and resource persons, continuously
worked hard, to give to its audiences what they’d never seen before.
All this and much more, culminated
into what we know as THE BEST
SHOW IN THE HISTORY OF THE
COMMUNITY - THE BROADWAY
AT H.P.Y.
1st May was the big day. The performers performed on songs from the
musicals such as The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Chicago, Abba,
Queen and also those sung by the one
and only King of Pop - Elvis Presley.
The Broadway performances were
exhilarating and left the audiences
spellbound, wishing for more. The
dances were upbeat and full of energy and the singing kept everybody
tapping their feet, swaying in adulation and hooting with appreciation.
All in all the broadway show was a
huge success and distracted the audiences from the usual and typical
Bollywood dancing and singing.
After a huge success on 17th
November, when H.P.Y. felicitated
CONTD. from PG. 11
its resource persons who’ve been
contributing towards the programme
for several years, the Organizing
Committee could have rested and
considered that, the greatest feather
in their cap.
But, never has an organization
lived upto its motto (“Striving for
Excellence”) as much as H.P.Y. has
and continues to do. It is the one programme that takes care of the smallest and the most infinitesimal details.
Only then can the product be so tight,
crisp and almost perfect. Each of their
events are better than their previous
ones and this is the epitome to which
the motto ‘striving for excellence’ can
be lived.
With an Organization of young
and dynamic members such as these,
who forever strive to only get better
than their previous shows, with the
love from one and all in the community, with the zealous enthusiasm of
its alumni and resource persons, and
the hand of God behind it, we wish
this Organization completes its Golden Jubilee after another 25 years, bigger and better, than its Silver Jubilee
this year.
Share Market...
It’s like separating the men from the
boys.
Be fearful when everyone is greedy
and be greedy when everyone else is
fearful.
Mr Warren Buffet who popularised
this principle, is the most respected and
successful investment guru. In 2008
when the stock market plummeted as
if there was no tomorrow, he invested
into companies more generously
than ever before. He bought stakes in
companies at rock bottom prices which
are now flourishing. Just imagine, you
walk into a shopping mall and see a
50% discount, we Bawas would jump
to the opportunity. Why don’t we do
the same with good stocks. Do not
follow the herd mentality, buy when
everyone else is selling. Consider it as
an opportunity and not a threat. Don’t
let a market slump change your longterm investment plan.
Hold onto your winners and sell your
losers.
Booking your losses is as important
as booking your profits. If you wouldn’t
buy more of a stock today on which
you have a loss and know that there
is no future in that company, then sell
it. Don’t wait to “get even.” Chances
are there are better ways to invest
your money. No well-managed store
keeps obsolete goods in inventory;
neither should you keep losers in your
investment portfolio. It’s not whether
you’re right or wrong that’s important,
but how much money you make when
you’re right and how much you lose
when you’re wrong .
Where you invest is as important as
how you invest.
Do not time the market, you can
never buy a stock at the rock bottom
price and sell it at its peak, you
may be lucky but not always. Stick
with a strategy. Avoid lump sum
investments, stagger your investments
across different periods, it will help
you average out the purchase price.
Do always sit on some cash and don’t
run dry by investing as if there is no
tomorrow, you never know when
opportunity strikes on your door.
Investing into stocks is not gambling
as long as your investment is not based
on speculation. Stock represents the
ownership of a company. Investing
into stocks is investing in a business
opportunity which you should be able
to foresee and understand.
Happy Investing.

‘FRINGE BENEFITS
AND OTHER THINGS’
THAT MAKE THE
‘CUT’ THIS SEASON!
In the heat of the summer the only thing
that could afford to get hotter is the way
you look!
Ponytails and Bobs are the instant formula
of success!
The best advice I can give is to go slightly
shorter with the haircut than usual but if
you don’t want to then get a hold of some
funky clips and rubber-bands and tie up
your hair
Those of you who do try the fringe: put in a
cute clip for effect!
Making the cut this season: The Classic
Bob
Back again this summer, the classic
bob features strong graphic outlines
incorporating curves and sharp lines. Go
for asymmetry - try one side longer or raise
the back and lower the front. Mix lengths gradually, add volume with
layers or stick to one length cuts. This is a cut that you can tailor to your
face and lifestyle -- a look for the individual. Soften it with wisps or a bit of
back combing.
There are some indefatigable guardians of the delectable Parsi cuisine
who relentlessly work towards not
only promoting the Parsi culture but
also staunchly believe in letting their
people experience the sheer delight
of tasting real Parsi food, a significant part of the Parsi culture. Jimmy
Boy is surely a harbinger of a heady
mix of conventional Parsi cuisine and
innovative new age food mantras.
The restaurant has been delighting
not only Parsis but all Mumbaikars
since 1970. Initially called the Café
India, it was rechristened Jimmy Boy
in 1990. It’s a little heavy on the pocket but after a single bite of the lagan
nu custard, you know it’s definitely
worth it.
RECIPE
Fish Patiya
Ingredients:
8slices fish / 2 cups deveined prawns,
Turmeric powder & salt,
1tablespoon coriander seeds,
½ tablespoon cumin seeds,
A pinch of mustard seeds,
8cloves garlic,
1tablespoon chopped coriander,
2large finely chopped onions,
5cloves,
5cardamoms,
5peppercorns, 1inch cinnamon,
1large tomato, ¼ cup vinegar,
8red chilies, ¼ cup oil.
Directions:
1. Apply salt and turmeric over the
fish. Grind all the ingredients,
except fish, onions, coriander and
oil into a smooth paste.
2. Heat the oil in a large vessel. Add
the onions. Fry till almost brown.
Add the masala. Fry for 5-10
minutes, stirring continuously.
3. Add the fish. Shake the covered
vessel and simmer for 10-12
minutes. Serve hot with yellow
rice.
fast food as well, but the restaurant
remains essentially Parsi in spirit
with its strikingly traditional décor. Jimmy Boy’s one point agenda
seems to be to provide traditional
Parsi cuisine and provide its customers with only the freshest of foods
For its Zarish pulao, zarish
berries are especially flown in
from Iran. In a world where
lemonade is made from artificial
flavors and furniture polish is
made from real lemons, this is a
heartening thought.
Worries go down better
with soup. After a visit
to Jimmy Boy you will
know this to be true.
The restaurant’s forte is its lagan
nu bhonu-a three course traditional
Parsi meal served on a banana leaf.
It’s both sumptuous and scrumptious. It serves Indian cuisine and

Foreigners too are deeply intrigued
by the restaurant’s charming personality and the food never quite fails
to pique their curiosity. The owners
are full of amusing anecdotes about
celebrities who frequent the restaurant. John Abraham is a staunch
loyalist and an ardent lover of the

cinating eatery lands you the prospect of bumping into the actor. The
aim of the restaurant is to provide an
intimate atmosphere for its celebrity
clientele.
Jimmy Boy receives its heaviest
crowd on the Parsi and Irani New
Year. Vegetarians too can indulge in
the myriad variety of delicacies offered on the menu.Recenly the restaurant added a bakery section to its
already exhaustive menu. They have
also come up with the innovative
idea of ‘a box to meet your budget’which is essentially a pocket-friendly
idea of customizing the food items
to meet the customer’s budget. The
Parsi cuisine scene in Mumbai has
projected a tremendous growth from
the quaint little Iranian cafés to the
cool sophistication and commercially happy state of Jimmy Boy which
exudes Parsi culture. The restaurant
is definitely worth a visit. Bon appétit!

AYN RAND born Alisa Zinov’yevna Rosenbaum, February 2 1905 – March 6, 1982), was a Russian-American novelist,
philosopher,[2] playwright, and screenwriter. She is known for her two best-selling novels, Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged
and for developing a philosophical system she called Objectivism.
Atlas Shrugged, published in 1957, was Rand’s magnum opus.[53] Rand described the theme of the novel as “the role of the mind
in man’s existence—and, as a corollary, the demonstration of a new moral philosophy: the morality of rational self-interest.
I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another
man, nor ask another man to live for mine.
Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
Pride is the recognition of the fact that you are your own highest value and, like
all of man’s values, it has to be earned.
Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
Rationality is the recognition of the fact that nothing can alter the truth and
nothing can take precedence over that act of perceiving it.
Ayn Rand, Atlas Shrugged
That which you call your soul or spirit is your consciousness, and that which
you call ‘free will’ is your mind’s freedom to think or not, the only will you
have, your only freedom, the choice that controls all the choices you make and
determines your life and your character.
