This week’s 2nd Collecon is for Peter’s Pence God bless you for your continued generosity! A Note from our RCIA Coordinator I n preparing for the Rite of Welcome, I started to think about all the welcomes we give and receive throughout our lives. How many times on coming home have we shouted out "I'm home" expecting and receiving a warm welcome. Even our doormats say welcome. We welcome family, friends and strangers to our homes and our journeys of life change as we welcome new babies into our lives and the future intendeds of our children. I remember when I became engaged to Mike my father kept introducing him as " Mike Sweeney, my daughter's fiancé." My Dad finally got used to saying Mike Cassidy and they developed a wonderfully warm relationship built on mutual admiration and respect. Scripture tells us to " Welcome one another, then, as Christ welcomed you, for the glory of God." (Romans 15:7) and to "Welcome him then in the Lord with all joy and hold such people in esteem." (Philippians 2:29) But all these welcomes take us in new directions, on new journeys. Today, our parish community welcomes Michael Scheuing and Brian Clements. In the Rite of Welcome, Michael will acknowledge his desire to join our worshipping community and at the Easter Vigil, he will be received into the church to celebrate the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation. Brian will complete his sacraments of initiation when he is confirmed at the Easter Vigil. Pope Francis wrote “Faith becomes operative in the Christian on the basis of the gift received, the love which attracts to Christ, and enables us to become part of the Church's great pilgrimage through history until the end of the world. For those who have been transformed in this way, a new way of seeing opens up, faith becomes light for their eyes.” And that is what RCIA is about – transformation – developing and deepening a personal relationship with Jesus to see things in a new way on the journey to God. Both Michael and Brian have listened to God's call, and, as Pope Francis wrote, are "allowing their life to be written by God." Today, we encourage Michael and Brian on their continuing journey of faith. With a smile on your face, warmly welcome them to our wonderful parish community as you let them know that they are in your prayers. Eileen Cassidy RCIA Coordinator I f anyone wants to be a follower of Mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross and follow Me. Anyone who want to save his life, will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for My sake, and for the sake of the Gospel, will save it.” —Mark 8: 34-35 Look What’s Happening at St. Christopher Parish!
