Town of Ahoskie Parks and Recreation Department Baseball and Softball Time March 2012 Volume 2, Issue 3 Inside this issue: Sign-ups end March 7th at Town Hall. Baseball is for ages 5-15 and Softball is for ages 8-15. The cost is $35 in-town residents and $40 for out-of-town residents. Baseball clinic is March 10th at Simon Perry field, 5-8 year olds from 10:00-11:30 and 9-15 year olds from 11:30-1:00. Softball clinic is March 10th at the Complex, 8-11 year olds from 10:30-11:30 and 9-15 year olds from 11:30-12:30. Softball pitching clinic March 15th from 6:00-7:00. Ratings day is March 24th at the complex. This will be for any player who did not play last year or any player moving up to a different age group. It will be at 10:00 for 7-10 year old baseball players, 11:00 for 11-15 year olds, 12:00 for softball players. Spring Break Camp Kids are out of school, so come join us for some fun activities!! Spring break camp will be from April 10th-13th starting at 1:00pm everyday until 5:00pm. This is for school aged kids and the cost per person is $20, sign up at Town Hall by April 6th. We have a new Fitness Trail and Bike Maps!! The Fitness Trail is located at the Recreation Complex near the soccer fields area. We have three different areas around the circle that includes warm-up station, strength station, and cool-down station. The Bike Maps can be picked up at the Recreation Center and have many trails with mileage available all around town! Time to get in shape and enjoy the nice weather coming up! • • • • • 1 2 2 3 3 4 We are Moving Soon: We will soon be moving the Weight/Fitness room from the Recreation Center. The new location will be at the Gym. We will have a weight room and a fitness room that will include new, up to date equipment that everyone can benefit from. Some new equipment will include treadmill, rowing machine, smith machine, new benches, and more. You will also have access to the gym to do any type of exercise we have avaiable. We hope to see you there soon! Come Join Us!! For program info call us at 332-2064 Recreation Center. All sign-up rentals fees are paid at Town Hall only. The recreation Center does not take any register fees or rental fees begin December 1, 2011. So please take all register forms for programs and sports or sponsorships and donations to the Town Hall at 201 W. Main Street or mail to PO Box 767. Have a great year! Pre-School Lil’ Sports: At the Recreation Gym on Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. we will start having games and activities for pre-school age children to learn and get in some physical activity. After-School Tournaments: We are going to start having after-school activates at the recreation center. Each day there will be a Main Event that we will have a mini Tournament for that event. All children are welcome to come play the main event and any other activities. Tennis Ladder Challenge: Tennis Ladder Challenge will begin in March and sign-ups start now! A tennis ladder challenge is a chance to play against other people competitively. A round robin tournament will be used to decide the placement on the ladder. Upcoming Programs We have a baseball program for preschool aged kids that is called SMART START Baseball. Also during the summer we will have different camps and activities that will be going on. 2 Community Garden Coming Parks and Recreation is partnering with the NC Cooperative Ext office to offer a Community Garden program. It will be a special place to grow food, flowers and herbs in the company of friends and neighbors. First meeting for interested gardeners will be March 13 at 6:00pm at the Recreation Center. Special Thanks The Volleyball and Basketball programs are running well. We would like to thank the participants, parents, coaches, and officials for making these happen. We would also like to thank the Sponsors for supporting the Recreation Programs. Volleyball’s sponsors are Woodman of the World (WOW), Viquest, and Nucor. Basketball’s sponsors are Viquest, Ahoskie Eye Care, Basnight, Sportrax, Mid-East, Integrated Family Services, DJJDP, RCH, King’s Auto Sales, and Dana Drake. Easter Egg Hunt Easter Egg Hunt will be Saturday, April 7th from 10:00-12:00. It will be held along Edgewood Rd at the Ahoskie Creek Recreational Complex. At 10:00 the different games and activities will begin. The hunt will begin around 11:00. Three areas to hunt in that will include ages 0-3, 4-7, and 8-12. New Website is up and running! Check out the new website at www.ahoskie.org and go to the next to last tab, Recreation. We will have information about current events, upcoming events, registration forms, and more. Rentals Available Park Information Parks and Recreation Department has purchased 200 chairs. These items are available for rental. If you are interested in booking these items contact Town hall. The Parks and Recreation Department is seeking sponsors for several exciting special events. If your business or agency is interested in a new way to advertise your companies contact our department. The events range from Concerts in the Park to Movies in the Park and many more. This is a great way to build your business while helping our community! Instructors/ Volunteers Needed! The Recreation Department is looking for volunteers and instructors to help us expand our programs. So if you have a special skill or just enjoy sharing a talent please contact us at 252-332-2064.
