MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Lakeland Hills Family YMCA is to put Christian principles into
practice through programs and services that promote youth development, healthy
living, and social responsibility for all.
STRENGTHENING
THE FOUNDATIONS
OF OUR COMMUNITY!
We are a powerful association joined together by a shared commitment to
nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy living, and fostering a sense
of social responsibility. We believe that lasting personal and social changes can
only come about when we all work together to invest in our kids, our health, and
our neighbors. Every day, we work to make sure that everyone, regardless of age,
income, or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Nurturing the potential of every child and teen
FOR HEALTHY LIVING
Improving the nation’s health and well-being
FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Giving back and providing support to our neighbors
The Lakeland Hills Family YMCA serves the following communities: Boonton,
Boonton Twp., Denville, Kinnelon/Butler, Lincoln Park, Montville, Mountain Lakes,

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
PRESCHOOL & YOUTH AQUATICS
AQUATICS FOR
KIDS AT THE Y
Our swim lesson program is designed to help kids
develop a lifelong love of the water with competency,
confidence and endurance.
LESSON PLACEMENT & REGISTRATION
If your child is new to our program (or has not participated at our
Y for more than six months), you must set up an evaluation to
determine their swim level before registering for a class. Call Aquatic
Director Gwen at ext. 22 for an appointment. If your child is currently
enrolled in lessons, go to our website the day before the next
registration time and check the appropriate swim level for which your
child should sign up. Evaluation is not needed for a beginner. Just sign
up for the age-appropriate class.
To reach this goal students are introduced to:
• Stroke mechanics
• Personal safety
• Water sports and games
• Character development

Parent/child classes for children under age 3 years
(or not potty trained) offer the opportunity for
toddlers to explore the water with the security of
Mom or Dad. Please have your child wear plastic
training pants to maintain pool safety. No disposable
diapers at any time.
LOCKER ROOMS
Please be aware that children are permitted in the locker room of
the opposite sex only through Kindergarten age. For those who need
strollers, we encourage the use of “umbrella” type strollers while
inside the Y, especially in the locker room where space is limited.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Preschool classes for children 3-6 years (and potty
trained) start them on the way to becoming a swimmer
with four progressive levels starting with “Pike” class.
Basic swimming skills with seven
progressive levels starting with
“Polliwog” class will be
introduced in our Youth
classes for children
6-13 years.
LONG HAIR POLICY
Anyone with shoulder length hair or longer must wear a bathing cap
or have hair securely tied up.
PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS
Due to limited space, private swim lessons for ages 3 and up are
available only during breaks or changes from our regular swim
program sessions. Thirty minute one-on-one instruction is available
during times below. Non-members welcome!
February 25-28
4:00, 4:30, 5:00 p.m.
In-person registration only begins Monday, February 11 at 8:00
a.m. at the Member Services Desk.
Private lessons are $20 per half hour for
members; $30 for non-members. Next set

COMMUNITY
YOUR Y HELPS THE COMMUNITY…
AND OTHER Ys
After Hurricane Sandy, the Community YMCA in South Jersey, reached
out to the CEOs of other Ys for help – 22 of their employees suffered
significant or total loss of their property and homes! Your local Y to
the rescue! In addition to making a generous monetary donation, we
purchased basic household necessities, personal care items, and made
goodie bags filled with snacks to drive down to the Community Y. The
Y teen Leaders also made donations, cards and notes of caring for
those who lost so much. According to BreAnne Barrow, Community
Service Director, “To do something tangible to help is really meaningful
to our teens and has opened their eyes to what really happened to
some during the storm. Loss of power is nothing compared to losing
everything!”
